A very nice article written by Dalmarus on Tentonhammer website that should be worth mentioning here with at least a direct link.

REALITY CHECK

an overly rose colored, one sided look at Vanguards life from a Vanatic. Broad statements of the game being "fixed" .. blah blah , yada yada.. Thanks for sharing
Watch your thoughts; they become words.
Watch your words; they become actions.
Watch your actions; they become habits.
Watch your habits; they become character.
Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.

ya, I picked up a old issue of PC gamer out of my closet..almost a year old to put in my recycle box and just flipped through it and the firtst thing it came to was a fold out advertising "Set yourself free" , " build the house of you dreams" and all that beatifull art work of the port city of Khal filled with peps and boats, also other nice art work
I will never believe the hype again, I really wanted this game to be what it said it was going to be.
the concept was the game of my dreams.
Having a blast playing Vanguard.
See ya'...
That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!
That is what is so sad. I put all other games on the back burner because I though I would be playing VG for many years like EQ1. Now all we can do it watch them shut down the servers which will probably come sometime after AoC or WAR launches.
From what I am seeing during this free period, VG has no future.
Thanks for the link! I'm enjoying my time in game.

Promote what you love instead of bashing what you hate.
I stopped playing Vanguard about 6 months a go, mostly because of bugs. I heard about the free month they have given to old subscribers so I would give it another try. And guess what..... I totally love it .
Thx for the link.
I agree with Hrica, the concept was the game of my dreams too- like old eq1 before they expanded it 20 times making it easier and easier.
However, I was lucky enough to live in japan through the first year of its release- and didn't pick it up until a couple months ago, so i don't have the deep seeded hatred many people do for the early release.
It is turning in to a great game once again. It isn't without bugs, but no MMO is. My only qualm is that the server populations are too low. Once the worlds become filled out (and they are filling out)- this game will continue on its intended path.
I've got the same types of expectations for Fallen Earth and Hero's Journey.
I'm currently playing Vanguard again and I see the improvements, but I also can't help thinking about the concepts of the game that never were realized, and probably never will be. SOE may take the game in a new direction, and it may be great, but it's not the Vanguard: Saga of Heroes I dreamed of years ago.
One of the better articles by Ten Ton hammer. My problem with Ten Ton hammer is the same for almost all fan sites. Ten Ton hammer is run by people that do not play the games they write about. They write articles merely for the sake of writing articles then actually writing articles that can benefit gamers. The F first 6 months of vanguard's release Ten Ton only produced articles aimed at the level 10-15 player which most people were long past after the first week of release. The problem was none of the Ten Ton hammer writers ever got past level 20 in the first 6 months once the game had gone live.
Artilcles such as Dalmarus how to get Randolph guide are a joke and an insult to gamers. Writing a guide how to do a quest that just involves talking to a quest npc is a joke. Unfortunately this is typical of most Ten Ton guides. Just worthless junk written to look like they are doing something. I have read many fo articles and posts by Dalmarus has written and he has a limited knowledge of Vanguard at best.
But these problems do not just begin and end with Ten Ton hammer. The problem is rampant with all fan sites. They hire casual people who simply do not play MMO's and they write garbage on a weekly basis. I would love to see some fansites actually written by real players for players rather than just catchy headlines intended to just get people to clink on their links to increase their advertising revenue.
Its a shame when one has to surf thru the SV forums forums of class sites to find well written guides written by players for free that are so much better than those guides and articles written by the professional sites.
The other problem with professional sites like Ten Ton is they have to suck up to the devs when they write their rpe release articles. Almost everyone in beta knew what a ticking time time bomb was Vanguard was and what a disaser it would be if released in january. But the sites like Ten Ton will never tell you that instead they only give out pre packaged develoepr approved soundbytes. The end result is we have lots of hype but encourage developers to release incomplete games.
I don't mean to be rude but Ten Ton Hammer is garbage like most fansites. I am sure the people that write there are nice people but they have little to know knowledge of what they are talking about and they consistently produce worthless articles. The problem is they don't care if their articles help anyone rather their focus is on quantity over quality. Just churn out more worthless garbage. People will click and advertisers will pay them.
Again I don't mean to be rude or pick on Ten Ton but gamer fansites could be so much better. They could start by hiring competent players which IMO makes the pickings slim but they also need to change their approach in terms of release and pre-release. Rather than writing articles just to put out content they could be so much better by actually writing guides players need. Machails pantheon and CIS guides are example of a good start. But theya re still of very poor quality and if you look at the design of those guyides its terrible. Rather than put the entire quest line into one guides they break up into miniscule small parts in order to increase their hits and advertising dollars and to appear they are doing much more than they are. For example rather than writing one simple CIS guide. He breaks it up into a gazillion parts so they can call ti content for 2-3 months and maximize the viewers hits on multiple pages. I find that approach somewhat offensive and demeaning to the viewer. But this approach is ntonessessary unique to Ten Ton. At least they are consistently writing guides even if most of their guides are just worthless fluff.
But the point is here these sites could do so much better. Rather than trying to increase their advertising dollars in the short term writing meaningless deceptive fluff. They could concentrate on writing much more meatier articles. While these would take longer to write and would mean less articles it would hopefully give people a reason to go to these fansites other than the forums and actually build up build up a real fan base.
I am not including MMPRPG.com as I do not read as many of their previews and articles as I used to. But I should say I have been imrpessed with many of the ones I have read recently and think MMORPG.com seems to do a much better job than the major fansites. I used to be critical of many of the articles here. Maybe I have just read good ones recently as I was impressed by the depth and details of the coverage.
BTW I am not talking about indepedent fansite and class sites as many of those in VG and other games are very well done.
