Powerlevel?

GetsomeGetsome Member Posts: 52

How does one get powerleved in CoH? Thinking about coming back and playing with fiance and she is currently 21 empathy defender.

The only feasible ways of xp'ing i've seen is either team with higher  person and be sidekicked or just have her tail my newby char while I tackle reds and she spot heals me and gives me endurance buff.

Any other means of powerleving?

There's really no way to Powerlevel in CoH.  There were some exploits, but they fixed them.  The best way to get xp is just standard good group street hunting (3 to 4 in the group I suggest, and must have a blaster). Preferrably, though, you want to be as much lower in lv as possible without sidekicking.  For instance, if you are level 10 hunting with a level 15 unsidekicked, you will get great xp.  It also kinda depends on what class you play too.  If you play a blaster, it might be quicker to have her follow you around and heal/RA/Fort you while you plow through groups on the streets.

Getsome: The Brickstown method still works fine for Powerleveling.  Pay no attention to people who insist on replying to every topic, yet never give any factual information.  It's easy enough to determine who knows what they're talking about.

If you're not familiar with the Brickstown method, here's how it works.  You level the character you want to Power Level to around 16 or so.  Then you group with a level 40 (or higher) and a level 2, and go to Brickstown.  The level 40 should be a Fire Blaster, Fire Tanker or Assault Rifle Blaster- basically, the level 40 has to have a massive AoE attack.  My preferred method is Firebreath/Fireball/Rain of Fire, but Tripmine/Full Auto does the trick nicely as well.

The only character that has to do anything is the level 40.  The other two can just sit around the T.  Go to the Bricks T on any given night, and you'll see a dozen or so level 2s just standing around- I guess they like the scenery.  :)

In any event, the Level 40 then goes on a massive killing spree.  Thanks to a poor XP splitting implementation, the mid level guy will just ZOOM up levels.  In the last patch, they attempted to fix this somewhat, and in my experience they probably decreased the efficiency of this method by maybe 30% or so, but it's still one heck of a lot faster than just trying to level via street sweeping or Door missions.

I've used this method as recently as last weekend, and it still works fine.  It's possible that one day they actually will close off this exploit, but as of the moment, it's still a great way to test out new builds or get friend up to speed with the rest of your Supergroup.

Gee, the only flaw in your plan seems to be 1. He is trying to catch his fiance at lv 21 but he should somehow magically become lv 16 to implement your exploit, and 2. He should illicit the assistance of a lv 40 (just grab one off the street I guess, and not just any, one of your 3 required classes).  Nope, sorry, I guess I might be wrong, I have never used an exploit so I guess I didn't actually TEST to see if they fixed it when they say they did.  Silly me for not verifying the proper available ways to cheat.

Thanks for the replys guys. Well now I have a lvl 11 controller, 9 ice blaster, 16 emp def(from before i quit), lvl 8 tanker(prior to quiting).

I'm really lovin the illusion/empathy controller atm, I see this as a great teaming character. So I was in perez doing the street thing and my fiance got on her char and went to Talos and there was a lvl 2 char there and he went from 2 to lvl 6 in a matter of 20 minutes tops.

I just don't understand how the xp is distributed via this method. I tried teaming with fiance in skyway but I didn't sidekick and we killed a mob to test and i received no xp whatsover.  I just honestly want to get to lvl 20 so i can enter zones with her.

Don't powerlevel. Seriously. Get her to make a new character or something. Most of the game's content is at the low-end right now, so you'll go charging through most of the game and find the same ol', same ol', like most of us have. Not something you wanna do.

A question for the power levelers out there (because I just don't understand).

Why do you buy a game NOT to play it?

They're not powerlevelling to skip the game, they want powerlevelling to be close to each other in levels.  While sidekicking is a good temporary solution, it won't work/be fun forever, I suppose.  But I don't have much experience tehre.

Non-Power Leveling solution - Create new character to play with your friend. I will be doing this in a couple of weeks when my nephew gets the game. I told him I would create a char to play when he plays & we can progress together doing each other's missions, etc. Your other character will still be there if you want him/her.

I go back to my original question - why skip the game?

I would like to say that Warstrike's data is not quite correct at higher levels. Ranged is still less than melee damage, but when a Rikti Chief Soldier hits you with his energy rifle for 600+ points of damage, he can drop you in two or three hits. Even at level 50.

Controllers, defenders, and blasters are very much fragile at higher levels and you won't see any of them tanking.

As mentioned before I just want to team with her and she's not wanting to start another Defender which she's tottaly into.  I had a lvl 16 def but quit for a while to go to DAoC so I can back and she was 21 and I had created a new char, controller. This is her first MMORPG!

Making a new character is quite fun but unfortuantely at low lvl's you have to deal with a lot of noobs in the sense that they don't use tactics. I can't tell you have many times I've died trying to save a blaster who's just AoE the mobs when I'm low on Endurance for heals (illusion/Empath Controller btw).

I honestly think the game gets good in the high teen lvl's because people get to know they're jobs in a sense, this is based from my own observations not referring to the true high lvl game of lvl 50's

Since you fiance is the higher lvl have her sidekick you and you will get xp. If you are not a damage dealer you and your fiance will need to expand the group to include a scrapper or blaster. Try getting a blaster or scrapper that is 5 lvls above your fiance so you and her can get great and fast xp. (Blasters love Empathy defenders).

    ***note***

If you are sidekicked your fiance can leave the group and when the blaster killed stuff you would still get xp (duo xp) as long as your fiance stayed within sidekick range. She could still heal and buff the blaster and you would be able to catch up to her faster. The only down side is she wouldn't get xp, but if she does care then there would be no downside.
