Some of the debates are starting to annoy me...

MMOs are not The Highlander.  There can be more than one.

MMOs are not the US elections.  When one wins the most subs, it doesn't mean the others pack up and go home.

The only thing that really matters is if you think it's fun, and the company making it makes enough money to make it worth their time to keep it going.

    I agree. And I'll add:

PVP and PVE are both very valid, enjoyable playstyles that appeal to different tastes.

Sandbox and Linear gameplay are both very valid, enjoyable playstyles that appeal to different tastes.

    I disagree.

I agree with the OP sentiment. Most players have played 2-4 MMORPGs and enjoyed them.

I prefer to play one game at a time, but that doesnt mean the ones I dont play are bad.

Nice to see you still got your addiction for bashing WoW and WoW styled games.  Sadly you really know little to nothing about the people you keep taking pot shots at.   Keep up the hard work though, since these little comments of yours seem to be your "safety net".

Eh, what's life without a good argument or two?  Not say the OP wasn't right in his sentiment, but if there weren't any arguments, everyone would quit checking the boards.

No doubt said arguments being a little more formal would be great, though.

The truth is that mmorpg.com is site for "hardcore" mmo fans. But there was no "serious" mmo since 2004.

We are all famed and ravished , left to nothing but petty bickering over things that mean nothing.

Moment something good comes out , that would give us something real to talk about , all this "LOTRO has 10k subs , Darkfall is the best" talk will vanish

    Hey Guys,

I agree with the OP on the fact that it is good to have a diverse range of MMOs to suit the different type of gamer but I think the quality of MMOs these days is so bad because they aren't forced into competing with other companies they just can hang there while people casually play the game.

Oh and Orca I like your quote about  "Pimping my Character" I think it is very true. Oh and yea I was meant to quote that lol but I think it has copied your comment instead, but oh well.

I totally disagree, MMOs are not like other games.

A lot of people are debating because they are trying to pick the ONE, THEY want to play, not THE ONE everyone should play.

    A.  Monthly subscription - personally I just want to pay one.

    B.  Time - When people are playing more than 40 hours a week on one MMO they don't have time for 2.

    C.  Popularity Contest - Whether we like it or not MMOs are a popularity contest.  Because MMOs are all about interacting with lots of people, having lots of people playing is an attraction.  How many people don't play CoX just because they think it isn't that popular, or how many people play WoW just because it is?

  • AkenatehmAkenatehm Member Posts: 8

    Hey GreenChaos

I agree with you and I too find MMOs far more fun then any game and now when I buy offline games I find them so boring because there no community to play with.

I do find it hard to believe that you WANT to pay a subscription lol.

I agree on the fact that MMORPGs are a popularity contest also but I think that people play because heaps of people do and there are people to play with rather then if it is cooler to play a game because more people do.

Oh and GreenChaos can you log onto your Xfire I have an offer for you.

starting?  lol i've hated them from nearly the first time i got into one.  as WAR and AoC get closer to release and no other game challenges WoW (or any other MMO for that matter) then these debates will get worse and worse

    MMO wish list:

    -Changeable worlds
    -Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads

OP is missing the whole point. The debate is about the crap that's being done today, against the amazing MMORPGS the industry could be doing right now. So if the game is crap, they got all the hate from the ones that want a decent MMORPG experience.

I'd love to see any argument by a moderator here. I'm sorry, I consider myself more of a casual player than a hardcore player. Are you saying I shouldn't be here? segregation stinks and I don't care who you think you are, but that comment of yours was very ill thought.

Remember the old debate, which will be better EQ2 or WoW.  Looks like winning the popularity contest does matter.

In fact at that time I was still MUDing, decided it was time to try a MMO, I went with WoW because it was more popular, and it looks like I wasn't the only one.

Remember when they banned that debate?

Am I the only one who remembers back that far on this site? :-(

I went with both and enjoyed them . though with my limited play schedule I got more done in WOW.

Perhaps what the OP is saying is we shouldn't take someones dislike for our favorites so personal. Truth is not one is head and shoulders above the others in all aspects. Perhaps that's why many of us play more than one MMO.
