When are they gonna have a "George Bush Parade" in the UK for this one? George Bush, bringing prosperity everywhere but his own country.
I don't find the DMV that bad. I usually wait like 20 minutes and the other person is so nice. However, I don't like the desks or the chairs. Its like the Desk was designed for a much much higher chair. It makes a 6'8" guy seem like a child when they sit in these chairs. The key to having a good time at the DMV is by not giving the DMV employee a bad time.
You also pay a good portion on income tax, anywhere from 10-45% (last I checked) depending on how much you make. However, I'm quite happy to give a portion of my salary to the government in exchange for free healthcare, police, fire, and emergency services, etc.
Ok..think about what you just said. In some places in Canada you could have almost HALF of your salary whisked away to the government. Then the government sees fit to do with the money YOU earned.
Jeebus, this is where I am SO GLAD I am an American. That statement doesn't mean that I bash Canadians or Brits or anyone else for that matter. I just thank God everyday knowing that my JOB pays for my Healthcare (to a certain degree) and that a very large portion of my paycheck goes to me, myself, and I and at the end of the year, not only do I get ALL of my taxes back but I actually get more back than I paid out.
I make 53K a year and when its all said I done, I get 53K a year PLUS medical plus retirement, plus a 401K, plus a vacation (4 weeks a year), plus various bonuses throughout the year.
A good friend of mine just came from Canada. He told me about the waiting lines and the horrible service you get.
I asked him "Surely, it cant be that bad."
He responded, "Do you know the building that you get your driver's license and they take your photo? The department of Motor Vehicles?"
"Yes, I responded. Horrible service, long lines, rude employees."
Then he said, "Well, imagine that but those employees are Doctors and Nurses." That blew me away.
Free health care sounds great in theory. Once it is usally done though it's really bad. I always just tell people to think about what goverment run service do they enjoy going to I mean courts, DMV profesional licenses and so on. I just named ones I have dealt with and the service has always sucked. If you want to taste what free health care would be like here in the states go to your local free clinic and just sit there for a bit and see how long people wait and ask them how rude doctors and nurses were to them.
The problems with goverment health care is that once the goverment runs it doctors, nurses, pharmacists and other health care workers will be payed less well this will just end up causing more problems since there is a shortage of the 3 I named there. So lets pay even less and see how that shortage works out. Also when the goverment is involved there will be little reason to do your job better then the next guy your going to get paid the same so why try and be the best there really is no reason. I could go on and on about this but just to sum it up it can't work maybe it works in other countries and maybe if we had started with something like that but how healthcare is now it wouldn't be able to take such a drastic change without some really bad consequences.
ahhh how I'd like to actually get longer holidays and free healthcare... oh well...
lol, what makes you think healthcare is free? Where do you think H Clinton is gonna get the money to make the healthcare free? From trees? From Doctors willing to work for free? Explain to me where Miss Clinton is gonna get the money for free healthcare.
The US spends as many tax dollars as anyone else the world on health care. Universal care systems in places like the UK, Germany, France and Japan acutely cost taxpayers less then the limited coverage the US government provides. If you live in the US you already pay more taxes for the provision of health care then people in the UK do, the difference is that they don't have to pay more to get health care themselvs like people in the US do.

Simply not true. Where there are wait lists it’s for elective procedures.
BTW, at your income level you’d be paying around 27% (Federal & Provincial) in Canada, which is comparable to what you’d be paying in the US. It’s only once you get in the $100K+ range that you pay higher taxes in Canada then in the US. Something else to consider is that Canada is paying down debt while the US is racking it up.
This has all to do with the weak dollar. Lets see what happens next year when the Euro and Pound drop alongside the dollar, it will be back to the status quo.

And worth every penny! Don't let anyone try to tell you otherwise.

I've never lived in UK before~~~
I wonder what the cause is for this problem~~~~
At least we're not living in Rapture.
Still waiting for your Holy Grail MMORPG? Interesting...
