so as for moving on

BushMonkeyBushMonkey Member Posts: 1,406

So as we are told everyday we need to move on or get a life. I was wondering what everyone did with there lifes after PRECUNGE. Its been 2 almost 3 years for some so surely something of significance occured in that time period that would indicate we have moved on and found a life.

Lets see i recall moving on to GW for a year after the CU got bored looked around and saw mostly subpar games,so after almost 3 years instead of playing video games 6 hours a day i'm down to 2 hours, thats seems a good thing, giving time for other pursuits in life.

I finally moved from the big city after 10 years to a small town and have a good job,i have also purchased an ATV and i love riding, even more than playing PRECU.{I know blasphemy} But i cant ride today its raining.

As to why i still post about PRECUNGE,well i have a morbid curiosity to just poke that dead corpse to see if there are any signs of life. I figure its not my job to bury it SOELA killed it they can bury it.

So what significant events and worthy pursuits has everyone else found over the years?

I had 2 kids. Bought a new house. Started a blog. I have a great job that keeps me world bound.  As far as games go I stayed with SWG on and off after the NGE. I have also tried other MMO's that I have liked very much. But as far as the hours I "used" to spend in SWG upon release and pre NGE I maybe play 4 hours every third night of the week in Eve Online. Nothing really fills that online vibe like old SWG did with full servers. But I think Eve is going to emerge this year as something that may change all that with the implementation of avatars and stores on the space stations. SOE really did not have a clue how far they could have gone with SWG but now I just don't care.

Hmm highlights.  Time with wife and kids at the beach when it's hot, skating snow-boarding when it's cold.  This past New Year's eve skating downtown at the outdoor rink drinking hot chocolate and eatin' hotdogs with the family was really cool--live bands, light show etc., really nice.

Work's been good, satisfying.  Playing guitar, teaching my niece to play when we find time that works out for both of us.

Kids start hockey on Tuesday--that should be fun for them, and me and missus arcangel will enjoy watching I think (and more hot chocolate).   Kids are also raising sea monkeys that they got for Christmas.  That's really cute.

Really got into graphic novels by Brubacher.  Enjoyed the Captain America run; still enjoying that actually, even after his death.  Also enjoying Brubacher and Lark's Daredevil Graphic novels.   Stories and characters are great, artwork fantastic.

MMO's, still enjoying pretending to be a superhero in CoH lol.  Mastering my Warshade atm (that's the unlockable shapeshifter).  With all the forms and options, I find getting a good build is always a work in progress.

Looking forward to the Stargate MMO.  If I don't play it, my son probably will.  We all enjoy that show.  Helping my son finish KOTOR atm also :).  He's lovin' it.

I keep in touch with former SWG pals via this forum, our guild's independent forum, by email and in CoX.  Met some great people, and it's nice to keep in touch and still share some online adventures.

ATV ridin' sounds fun.  Used to rided motorcycle myself.  Loved it, but needed a trunk for groceries and sold it to buy a K-car lol--that's many years ago now though :)

Gratz on the younglings and the new house ^_^.  Glad you're enjoying EVE.  I hear it's a lot of fun.

I got into comics again too, found out I have a favorite Marvel superhero - Captain America - right before they KILLED HIM OFF!

Somehow that reminds me of something else...

Back in '04 both my buddy and I bought our dream cars. His was a '97 convertable Jaguar XK8, and mine was an '04 Jeep TJ (I know, it's not like it's some kind of high end sports car but I love Jeeps!). Every summer we spend a lot of time just cruising, cause there's nothing like the open road with the top down :)

Aside from that everything is same old same old. Good friends, good food, good drink, and many laughs. I'm the kind of guy that enjoys the simple pleasures in life. I enjoy going to work (at least for the most part), and I really enjoy my leisure time.

Nothing much has really changed for me since SWG, but I was always content with life on the outside :)

I sold one house in London, bought another, sold it, did it up and bought a house and a flat. I kept the house, turned over the flat and put the proceeds in a very pretty listed cottage in Scotland with an acre of garden. I am currently having that done up too. I am married and have two kids. I published my first book in 2006 (it got onto the NYT Bestseller's List - well, actually, it got into the Top 100 of just one of the many different specialist category lists of the NYT).

Why do I keep posting about SWG when I visit these forums? Because I do believe that mmorpg.com discussion influences player, developer and manager opinion, and I also believe that with enough prodding WG will one day bring some pre-CU servers online.

It is amazing to believe someone equates what a persons tastes in games are with their educational level.

A writer huh? Thats impressive. What books Hubie?

I spent 10 yrs after my Associates of Electronics working on/off as a tech. I continued taking classes at U-Mich Flint campus towards a Bach of Computer Science. In my time I worked several differant type tech jobs....parts validation testing for Delco in 92. A stint at the Proving Grounds in Milford in 99. Phone company in Pontiac in 96 to 98, and my last was repairing testers/circuit brds for a company that makes dimming mirrors for GM.

For a short time in 98 I was doing CMM(Co-Ordinate Measuring Machines) which a guy from Britain trained me on until I got a perforation in my intestine from Crohns and almost died. Real classy guy...unlike some others who are "supposedly" there.

Been out of work since 02...25 yrs of Crohns disease/steroids. Play MMOs some, and surf to pass time.

Asking Devs to make AAA sandbox titles is like trying to get fine dining on a McDonalds dollar menu budget.

    interesting..

    well here's my timeline:

sept.2005 - sept.2008: bashing SOE, destroying their reputation, telling EVERYONE I contact to not to buy any SONY or SOE products and explaining why and spreading as much hate as possible towards SOE/LA for destroying the greatest mmorpg of all time

for 2008: pretty much the same...

why ? because they underestimate the power of the minority, but they propably can see my timeline on their subscription numbers of SWG and their yearly profit statistics...

oh and I forgot: I got an army behind me who does the same as I do.. too bad SOE is too stupid to realise what their problem is.

after NGE i lost contact with almost everyone from my guild back on tempest ...played for a month about 4 months back ..got bored ...played lotro trial...loved it ...didn't have time for a PTP MMO so didnt  pay for it...run around on Guild wars trying to get titles and talking with guildies.. built up a nice size orc army in the lord of the rings  table top..and now thinking about how i wish i put that money into a choas army for Warhammer table top since LOTR table top never got big (or at lest that i know of)

now i am waiting for warhammer  and Fallen Earth (check both out )  (fallen earth reminds me some of what Pre NGE was like (they use a classless system )

I tried SWG....didnt like it...no biggie. I have been with EQ since 01 on/off. My wife luvs EQ2 when she gets home from work each day. Folks like you attack our fun, and we never did anything to ya. You didnt limit your attack to SWG...the vets attacked all the games.

Maybe you directly havent been in other SOE game areas bashing...but others here certainly have.

Bingo! And you know, I firmly believe it is because of people like us, that one day, one day soon, SOE will announce the re-opening of pre-CU servers. My optimistic guess is in May 2008, when Bioware and LA announce their 'joint interactive product' which I think will be a Star Wars-themed MMO or perhaps a game for a new hand-held console, and SOE is desperate to recoup some SW love from the marketplace for itself.

My estimate based on my high up sources in SOE is 21 of april 2008 06:51 AM.

High up sources in SOE huh?  Tell them I said hello. Oh come on people.  The game will fold before a Pre-Cu server is booted up at SOE . I predict the end of SWG by SOE.

((well i moved on to WoW for a bit.  but honestly couldn't get it into the way i did swg.  i played coh/cov for q bit and found it fun but kinda shallow.  that is no player housing, etc.  but then again im an rper so the little things like that are more fun to me then raids, etc.  or whatever.

however im of the opinion that i would be satisified with CU era servers.  to be honest i never played pre-cu and would go on just as well not doing so. i myself joined and played right after the cu hit.  played all the way to like a month after the nge, which i couldn't take anymore at that point. the major loss of players as i see it ((and saw it, imho))  came with the NGE.   I mean a great deal left with the cu,  but not anywhere as many as with the NGE.  that was then it started making headlines,  forum wars, etc.  so id be happy with just cu era servers.   but in either case ive moved on.

i look to try out new games and look forward to trying out warhammer, age of conan and others.))

Moved onto Guild Wars for a while.  Got into a Rank 50 Guild and did some hardcore group PvP.  Grew bored of the Dungeon & Dragon Genre games and vowed to not go to anything but a sci-fi mmo.

Tried WoW once for a week.  Puked at its awefulness.

I have a baby due at the end of the month.  I tease my wife and nicknamed it Magnus. (World's Strongest Baby)

Played alot of Madden, putts around on my old school Ninetendo emu.  Follow the developments here for news on Bioware/SWG Pre-Cu.

I checked my old school yahoo group based rpg and found it dead.  Been puttzing around with my old rpg online content doing some cleanup and fixing of pages that look dated with typos and poor graphics.

I'd really like a pre-cu server.  I really, really miss a character I felt was uniquely my own in a perpetual online environment set in star wars.

It's a shame that SOE doesn't see a potential financial benefit to a pre-cu server farm using the old test center servers and client.  I have always maintained that a sunset pre-cu has nearly everything needed to operate.  It has a seperate client from the NGE core.  It has potential seperate servers.  It has allocated bandwidth to the outside world.  SOE has the code.  All I ever saw denying us a pre-cu environment was a LA licensing restriction.

Oh well.  It's comical watching Blizzard have Mr. T and Mini M commericals air constantly for a crappy D&D based game.  I also like the pickup wow commerical.  Way to pioneer MMO games Sony.

SOE... BLAZING down the road less traveled.  The road of failure.
