Personally I pick whichever character gender I find most stylish (or least non-stylish). E.g. in WoW any night elf I make (a rare case anyhow, as I play horde) will be female as the males look too silly, while any orc I make will definitely be male as I like their looks much better than the females. Blood elves is almost a random choice, humans and taurens will be male, etc.
Anybody thinking it's unnatural and creepy that people play the other gender ought to remind themselves that their own dirty fantasy about doing such things might not be what others have in mind.
Originally posted by Kassiah Female gamer here, and always play female characters. Never had much interest in being a guy in any world Sounds like you are looking for the opinions of other male gamers though, so be prepared for some insults as well as a few claiming to play females cuz they'd rather look at a female butt. Seems to be the standard justification, that and the concept of getting free loot by using their "feminine" wiles agains unsuspecting and desperate male players

Most Sci-Fi or FPS games I'll always play male toons since it's usually/always FPS viewpoint where I'm not staring at some dood's rear all the time.
In most fantasy games you are locked in, or just prefer to play in, third person due to the way the interface works. In those I tend to have a mix of male and female toons. Usually dictated by which sex/race combo has the better looking options to me.
For example in Guild Wars I tend to have a lot of female toons because most, if not all, of the male toons look complete crap to me.

As such, I'll play whatever looks the most interesting or fun. Sometimes that's male. Sometimes that's female. Sometimes that's a hermaphrodite alien robot.
Well said. I never felt the need to project myself into a video game character. That big, buff warrior with all the ubar gear isn't 'me' and it doesn't represent me anymore than an orc, gnome or robot would.
When I play a MMORPG, I feel like it's reading a novel only you get to have some control over the plot. I don't avoid good novels just because the main character doesn't match my own gender (or species).
I've played male and female characters as a GM and player in table top RPGs so I don't have any issues RP-ing either gender but I'm not a heavy RP-er in MMORPGs. At the same time I don't lie about my RL gender but then I don't RP unless it's with friends who know me anyway.
I don't think people should use anonymity to lie, but this is the Internet and everyone knows that there are people do it. It's just something you have to live with if you take part in any online community.
Please inform everyone on the AOC 'mature' threads of your poll results. I do believe they think that they're actually going to be interacting with Barbarian women.
I've rolled a few fem characters. I find that other players are more likely to help a female character than a male character. I never RP the fem character, however.
In old school SWG, I must've made millions afk, macro-dancing from males who would watch my fem-bot entertainers.
In WoW, I have 1 fem character. An Undead Rogue named 'Exwife'... because she is an undying, backstabbing... anyway. Plus, the name pretty much brings either fear or hatred. It's good times.
about 50/50, and I'm a guy. I really enjoy the art in gaming, and I like to look at all the characters, all races, classes, genders. One of my WoW mains is a female gnome mage. Guess I'm a big fan of the killer rabbit in Monty Python's Holy Grail - suck them in with cuteness, then shred them to pieces.
Thought I already posted in this, guess not, there are so many.
Yes I make all kinds of characters, about 50/50 male female, I like veriaty. I don't get free loot, nor do I make female characters because "if I have to look a characters butt the whole time it might as well be a girls," I mean seriously. And I never use names like HotChick69 or something equally lame. I just enjoy the fact that all my characters look different from each other.
Don't you worry little buddy. You're dealing with a man of honor. However, honor requires a higher percentage of profit
My main is usually a guy, with most of my alts being females. Lately I've been making my mains females too.
I personally prefer the female armour types, as well as their actions, emotes etc. The guys tend to come out looking a little dorky these days, with their armour sets looking very similar to each other. Female characters tend to have alot of variety associated with them in almost everything.
Also, people tend to be nicer in worry that you really are a girl in real life. It sounds silly but many people are wary of insulting female toons, yet male toons they bash like there's no tomorrow.

H no.
My healer toons or support toons are usually female and my DD or tankers are male. Call me a sexist pig.
If you are not being responded to directly, you are probably on my ignore list.
Yup. Agreed.
BUT.
male play female.
So with what we know about MMORPG populations, statistically the hot Cimmerian Princess you're talking to is prolly a dude, dude.
BUT/AND/IF/OR she's an actual she, statistically she's prolly playing with her partner.
So if that if you find a pretty young miss in distress, chances are you're fawning over a guy who's laughing his ass off over scamming you.
*shrugs* Sorry to be harsh, but use your common sense.

when game artists start making guy characters look cool i'll start to play them lol. they obviously spend more time on the female characters.
