If there's one class in Funcom's Age of Conan that will be played more than any other, it will be the Barbarian. Derived from the namesake of the universe (Conan the Barbarian), this class has been described as a savage, brutal, and undisciplined brute. To find out a few more details about the blood-thirsty class, Ten Ton Hammer's managing editor, Cody "Micajah" Bye, sat down with Funcom's Evan Michaels and really got to the core of what drives this enraged berserker. Cover the eyes of your women and children because the Barbarian is going to be one hell of a nasty combatant!

(Editor's Note: Due to the mad rush of the holidays, the Barbarian screenshots are still in transit. Keep checking back here at Ten Ton Hammer to see a group of exclusive screenshots focused on the Barbarian and his destructive rage!)

I read that yesterday, it's good stuff.  Good info.  Basically it told me everything I ever wanted to hear regarding the barberian class which I intend to play.

There are other class interviews on there as well if you scroll down on the ten ton hammer conan page.  I suggest you all go and check them out.

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

Yea this has made me fairly more excited to play the 'ole barb.  I only worry that it won't be an overly popular class heeh.

    Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Apply lemon juice and candle flame here to reveal secret message.

  • According to the pole on this site Barbarian will be no where near the most played class like the blurb says.

Most people are going for the stealth/DPS class and the evil paladin class.  Not a big surprise really.

I too am concerned that they will be over played for a number of reasons. I will have a barbarian as a main but i also think the class will be like the ranger class in wow or LOTRO in that they will be easy to solo to high lvl and so desireable to many.

One of the abilities of the barbarian is that they get more dangerious when other barbarians are in there group so it almost encourages mobs of barbarian hordes, which is good and bad really because if played well i think that they could be awesome and eventually the class may be weakened to compensate. I really wanted to just have one character this time round so i hope the bar turns out ok. I think every game i try i make one less alt and now i dont even want to have lots of little alts, just one main.

To use a mediocre example, but one many people will get, Shadow Priests made Warlocks a lot stronger.  Shadow Priests and Warlocks were good on their own.  Yet a group with a Shadow Priest and a Warlock could often run into trouble because of a lack of CC.

Or, to simplify, its possibly to balance classes even when they boost eachother.  Its even easier when the boost is in one class, so they will all have the same weaknesses - if you put too many in, you have a group that simply can't do certain things.

I think it will obviously require tweaking, its one of those numbers that will probably change 2-3 times in the first year alone, but it is flavorful and can be done right.

In every country and in every age, the priest has been hostile to liberty. He is always in alliance with the despot, abetting his abuses in return for protection to his own.
