Being a COH/COV man i played a main character as a gravity/storm controller. Not i PVP solo man! But effective in a group with a tanker.
If you want a a good solo PVP player then go with a tank or a regeneration scrapper.
Blasters , controllers and defenders are not good solo PVP players .Although a defender that has the right build and some experience might get by.
If you want a solo man go wit tanker or regen*/anything scrapper .
*Regeneration makes a scrapper almost impossible when that gets higher up the line.
BTW if you want some help i have my builds already made and saved in a planner program so PM me. GL!!
Actually ice/rad controllers are very good in pvp. The ice has plenty of slows so your opponent's attacks come slower and with the rad debuffs you can take them down a lot faster. Rad also has a very good endurance and heath recovery debuff.
Blasters are also good in PVP if built as what people call a Blapper. Blappers tend to concentrate on the secondary for the hold and the melee attacks. Ice/electric seems to be good as well as ice/Energy. I would not suggest a tank for solo PVP. Though they have great defense and resistance, they lack damage and can make for long fights.
CoX PVP seems to be about taking out your opponent quickly, either knocking out their toggles or pouring out a lot of damage in a short amount of time.
Very,very true
I know alot of those builds are very unique but still effective .I always believed that scrappers were most effective in pvp "solo" . But the first thing you have to do is ask your self what you like best.
Groups: Fast range attacks.
Solo: Energy Melee on a Brute would most likely get you rid of any scrapper. Villains solo better then heroes, even then scrappers. But in groups, heroes are much stronger.

This isn't actually correct.
Every AT has a build or two (depending on what priamry and secondary powersets you choose) to be effective at pvp; and some of the best pvp builds are blasters (usually fire/ or ice/ paired with /energy) or defenders (usually Rad/, paired with either /Sonic, /Electric, or /Psi)- and honestly, most of those can and will destroy even the best built /Regen scrapper.
But it would take a long time to fill out the details. I would seriously take a week or two messing around and get one of each AT to around 10 or so and decide which one you'd actually prefer to play. Then, spend a little time on the official forums and check out the forum section for the AT you've chosen and do a little looking. Usually, within the first page or two you'll find some pvp builds; if nothing else, ask. Then check out the pvp forums to double check and make sure you feel good about the choice you've made and maybe find a pvp SG (guild) with a decent reuptation thats fairly active and get to work.
Good luck!
The pvp in this game is pretty watered down by the "optional = no benefit" crew. Beware, you usually will only encounter pvp in ganks, or base camps due to the extremely dead pvp zones (due to the lack of reward)
I'll assume you know this then, and then say that the best pvp player on infinity is a ill/kin controller. Turns out they can slay you pretty fast, and with hammi's they can actually overcome the mag of a break-free thus really laying the stuns on you. Plus their damage is psionic, AND they get decoys with superior invis... therfore they choose when the fight starts. Plus controller legendary pp's are the best of all AT's.
Otherwise controllers lack a bit in solo-pvp. I don't reccoment controller as a player's first AT, since they are a bit tough to get rolling, but high end, I have seen that guy take on every AT and win.
Siphon speed Tanks, then transfusion... this also can work on scrappers
Stun lock blasters (no chance)
Jump-stun controllers since you are superior invis.
stun lock defenders (also no chance)

Well playing PVE and PVP is alot different . You can't figure out what its like playing against the highest most leveled up villains and be lvl 50 yourself and have all your enhancements slotted in 2 weeks. I played energy /electrical blaster , rad/rad defender , spines /regen scrapper, and a grav/storm controller all to 50. And all i know is when you pop moment of glory as a lvl 35 regen power you are almost impossible to kill , and with the dmg output of the scrapper no build except a tank or brute is going to last. except my rad/rad which is another possibility ,none of my builds could solo PVP . You need a good bit of expeirence to play a rad/rad they are tricky. But play coh and have fun don't worry about PVP for a while ,anyway all builds can PVP in a team effectivly so no worries
