I am looking for a sandbox skills game with a player controled economy. I dont mind P2P or F2P. My problem with F2P is that with most, in order to truely compete you have to spend money for ingame items. I wouldnt mind some ingame items, but things such as autoexp scrolls where you dont move but get exp over time just sux.
I perfer a game that you actually play. If there is a game with the two above mentioned characteristics, be it p2p or f2p (with no truely game play breaking purchasable items) please add your 2 cent here

I would suggest EVE-Online. Although it is not a game for everyone, it does match the standards that you have stated.
Skills and the game in general is a complete sandbox. You can do about anything and train skills in any way you like (no classes, and skills are time based). Since there are no specific classes, you can be whatever you want to be. Scammer, scravanger, sniper, drone-ship, missile boat, tackler, dictor, trader, miner, etc etc.
Also, the player controlled economy is what I play the game for. I have invested in numerous IPO's and ran trades through secure and unsecure space. To give you a little taste of how deep and player ran the economy is check out the Economics Dev Blog (2/3) here: http://myeve.eve-online.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&bid=505).
To try it out for free for 14 days just look up "EVE-Online Trial" in google.
Well you could try RF online... theres kind a of an economy system in it, together with taxes and stuff
Although its a grind, u might like it
Its F2P but i heard people having trouble getting the free key! anyway ....look around
