New to MMORPG

Hey guys. I'm new to the MMORPG world. I've dabbled in WoW a bit, gotten a few characters up to level 20 or so. I find the whole internet multiplayer thing fascinating. However, I have limited attention span for fantasy, scifi, or war games.

Are there any more "real-life" mmorpgs out there anyone recommends? Maybe like a western or cops and robbers game or something along those lines. I have read about a Roman one.

    You mean roma victor, but it's like Vanguard, they're still adding content apparently, and not even finished, but you can buy it, I wouldn't.

    Gods and heroes was the Roman one, but SOE killed the project before release of course, it doesn't exist anymore afaik.

    Second life is a realistic MMO.

    Welcome to MMORPGs. If you cant stay with any one genre for very long, then , as the poster above suggested, second life may be a decent option. Second life doesnt have any particular theme , its more like a bunch of themses loosly connected together. Second life is mainly a social gathering on a massive scale. Wheras MMORPgs generally are goal oriented.

    Also try the LFGame board on this website, you may find some more ideas.

    I wrote a brief article on how to find a new MMORPG on my website (Listed below) Its more geared for veteran players looking for a new game than true beginners, but you may get some ideas.

    Thanks for the suggestion. I actually did download second life and tried it out, but it seemed strange for some reason.

     

    I find it hard to believe there isn't a decent western or mafia (as another posted) or somethin like that out.

     

    Back in the day I played brick-and-mortar AD&D and we also liked playing Top Secret SI which was another dice RPG based on espionage/cops/etc. I really enjoyed that for its "realism" (even though a few bullet shots wouldn't kill your character go figure) and would like to find something like that in the MMORPG world. Whether its in Rome, the Wild West, or some kind of VIce City scenario.

    SOE is making one called "The Agency" which will be about spies.

    There's also Pirates of the Burning Sea, which is about, you guessed it, Pirates, and....the Sea....which just so happens to be Burning.
