bugged or not?

Hello community,

I've been looking forward to Age of Conan ever since I first heard about it. Both the gameplay aspects and the graphics really appealed to me. However, with so many new features such as 6 directional combat and spellweaving, I can't help but wonder: do you feel in the beta that this system is working? Recently I heard someone claim that there were major problems with the 6 directional combat system, so that got me concerned.

Exited as I am about the game, I definately don't want to play a game that will be like vanguard: a release pushed by the marketing department, filled with bugs.

regards

The ones in closed beta can't really discuss about this matter yet.

As an observer of Age of Conan, I must say that the "Real Combat" system is what concerns me most regarding the game's playability and success.

For me, though, it is not really a worry that it is buggy, as I am sure Funcom will have it working if it is not working fine already, it is that I am worried about the viability of it in an MMORPG environment. I am not sure it will be received well or work well.

In one video I saw a guy pull out a bow and aim it, then let an arrow fly. It was pretty neat, but I do not think it is something I would want to do every single time I fire an arrow, especially in the heat of battle.

The combo attacks with the six directions sound cool, but I think I'd prefer to simply monitor my special abilities and movement and let auto-attack take care of normal swings. It is more cerebral when you do not have to focus on constantly spamming attack directions and can instead focus on what is going on around you and timing abilities. I suppose I have more of a strategy mindset than an action mindset.

Ah well, when the NDA is removed and an open beta / stress test is held, we will see what the masses think.

Apparently there isn't going to be an open beta for the game. Was just mentioned in the latest article here at MMORPG.

And I think all to often I hear people talking about how combat is boring and it's never changed. I think this is an interesting way to do it, and I don't think you could have a better game base to try it in than Conan.

Thanks for the replies so quickly, but I think I might have phrased my question a bit unclear.

I would like to avoid a discussion whether this type of combat system suits a MMORPG or not, as that's all a matter of personal preference. The thing I was curious about though is whether it's bug free? I think even participants of the beta should be able to answer that question without violating their agreement.

I can live with trying a game and then thinking 'a crap, the combat system isn't meant for me, I'll go play another game', but playing a game and then realising I don't want to play it cause some of the key aspects are bugged is another thing.

I'm not saying I have no faith in the developers, but with so many innovating features I'm just concerned whether it's bug free or not (though I absolutely hope it's all working as intended), also cause I heard people claim that the melee combat system is bugged.

No Morkatog, they cannot comment on it without breaking the NDA.

Well you have a choice, you give this a chance and look very postive at it or you go back to your world of warcraft or any other standart mmo for that matter. The additions are exactly the reason for me wanting to play, because it can only work as im bored to fuck with the standart combat. The combat and mounted combat is very realistic and its just up to the people if they can handle this system or not, but that doesnt make it a bad game its just that they dont like it.

My personal opinion is that the mellee combat is very nice because the swings and actions are VERY detailed in what they are supposed to do. And btw this game cant pull a vanguard because vanguard was just a piece of crap, this game has been in development for a long time and made by people who clearly have a clue.

Sypro, no offense, but please read my post more carefully. The only thing I want to know is whether the combat system is bug free, that's all.

Morkatog, the number 1 rule of programming is that you are NEVER done with it. No piece of software of any size is ever 100% "bug free" no matter how much time is spent.

That being said, the above poster is correct, beta testers are unable to tell you their impressions due to NDA. My suggestion to you is, wait. If you wait until the NDA is lifted, not only would said Beta testers be able to talk, any problems that may or may not exist now are more likely to have been fixed in the meantime.

Beta testers cannot talk about anything, they can't even confirm that they're Beta testers. He's not avoiding the question, he's answering it correctly.

And while there is a chance that the combat system is buggy, we'll never know until we either get into Beta ourselves or until the game hits the market publicly.

I wouldn't worry to much about it. The unique combat system is one of the strong features and I doubt that they would release the game with it not working as intended. Keep in mind also that you will always have people posting negatively about games when they really know nothing. Be it a crave for attention or just general moronicy...it happens all the time and even more so with hyped games.

    I

Most (all?) gaming NDAs don't even allow testers to tell other people they are in beta.
