SzarkSzark News ManagerMember Posts: 4,420

Funcom has released details on the Age of Conan Collectors Edition, and all of the goodies contained within.  The Collectors Edition comes in a fancy box with the emblem of good King Conan, and a faux leather map of Hyboria, an in-game drinking cape that allows the player to get free drinks, a bonus DVD, the official Age of Conan soundtrack, and more.

Redwood City, USA – January 10, 2008 – Funcom and Eidos today revealed that an exceptional Age of Conan Collectors Edition will be available when the highly anticipated MMO launches in March. This unique and limited edition box set features numerous exclusive assets, and promises to be the ultimate Age of Conan version. In addition to the game itself the box comes with an impressive art book, the original soundtrack, a bonus DVD, a faux leather map of Hyboria and additional gamekeys which can be given to MMO friends. The Collectors Edition also comes with priceless in-game items, making it a must-have item for any serious MMO gamer.

To make the edition even more collectible, Eidos and Funcom also reveal that the Collectors edition will only be printed in one batch. If you are not able to secure this limited edition in time, it will become permanently unavailable. As fitting for a Collectors Edition it all comes in a specially designed box with a broad selection of Conan collectibles included.

The pack will retail for $89.95 in North America, and will be available at retail and online stores on March 25, 2008. Retail programs have already been set up with leading US retailers and the box can soon be pre-ordered at gaming outlets. The Collectors Edition will in addition be available in numerous European territories, with more information to follow.

    Finally!

I always get the Collectors for about every game.  This makes me stoked to finally know what I'm getting.

    87.95 ?

    LOL

    riiiight.

I could pay 50 and then get another game, or I could pay near 90 dollars, and get...  junk.

So you get a ring also with the collector's edition?

"These are all no-drop items: The Ring of Acheronia which is a 2% XP and 3% Stamina modifier and a Drinking Cape which gives you free booze in any tavern in Hyboria."

    Extra XP would be nice.

LoL what a joke a ring and a drinking cape neither of which will be of much use ingame [as im sure there are better items than that ring]. And only $85!!!!!!

Anyone that pays $90 for this pile of junk is going to get exactly what they deserve.

    $87.95

    to be exact.

a collectors edition would be worth it if you had a wench that followed you around keep your balls clean.

The question to me then is if I can order a US version and play on EU servers, how will they set that up?

90 Dollars is roughly 600 swedish crowns, wich is only 100 crowns more then what the standard version will cost here.

The EU collector edidtions will probably be 87 euros, wich is close to 900 crowns.

Anyone know how they will set up their servers?

If you truly are a fan you might want to consider this; it has nice artwork and looks rough if you are a conan fan. am thinking about it

the items may not look much but you don't pre order for a uber cool weapon. you pre order for the box. at least i always have.

      Think of your own jokes,

    anyway

Good God stop bitching about it. If you dont want to bye it then dont. Its not about the little items you get ingame.

Not worth it.  Furthermore, when games compromise the fairness of the game by allowing players to receive "in-game" items for simply paying more money then you know the game is already doomed.  A CE should offer behind the scenes stuff, a quality map, and only out of game merchandise.  I take this as a bad sign that they would allow people to have items that other people do not have access to because they were not willing to pay the extra money.

This just adds to my number of reasons that is making me very hesitant to purchase this game on release day.

Edit:  This is what I get for only reading the blurb and not clicking through to the page before posting. :)

None the less, I still suspect that the bonuses from the ring will not be significant.  I wouldn't be surprised if it's replaced within the first five to ten levels depending on how fast a character levels in this game.  Anything suggesting more than a minute benefit is most likely PR speak hyperbole.

Still, I can see where this would make some folks a bit unhappy with the CE on principle, if nothing else.  Before clicking through I expected it to be a fluff item, much like that drinking cape but limited to only something like that drinking cape.

    G'day folks

People who buy Collector Edition Stuff are likely to buy it and those who don't will not likely see the need. No sense getting upset about either view. If a person feels an item has value at any cost then enjoy it while you can.

This stuff isn't meant to be useful, it's pure Fan Fodder, chotchkes, like the plush Head Crab from HL2 (no it wasnt a premium but still the same idea) or the Ankh and cloth map from UO.

Only True Fans can appreciate these great 'collectibles' !!!

Maybe PotBS will offer a Gen-u-wine piratey eye patch in their collectors edition?

I think it's poor form to offer in-game items with functional bonuses in the CE.  It's one thing if you get a non-combat pet or novelty item... but it's another thing when you get increases to xp.

    Very poor form.

I haven't seen much to really make this game look exciting... and this diminishes my limited interest further.

Some of you may not know this. However, you can get the Drinking Cape by just being part of the Age of Conan newsletter or the "official fan club". Just goto the age of conan website and signup for the newsletter etc. When the game launches, those of us in the fanclub/newsletter will get a keycode sent to us to be redeemed for the drinking cape.

Kind of a ripoff when I think about people paying $90 for something I'm getting for free :)!

Then again I've been following this game now for 3yrs, BRING ON TEH DRINK'N CAPE!!

ps: I'm a numbers kinda guy <even though I hate math, go figure> so when you actually look at how much percentages affect something can be extremely low to the point of nothingness, or they can be so overwhelming it's actually quite funny.

3% to exp is NOTHING in the grand scheme of it all. Wow....that guy with that "special" edition ring only has to kill 1 less mobs than me to obtain lvl 26 from no exp into 25. Wow....I'm like....so hurt. Actually run it in your head you guys. The more something is required for an objective....the more percents matter. The less something is required for an objective, the less percents will matter. Ie: if lvl 20-21 takes 1000 exp, and each mob gives 10exp, 3% is absolutely NOTHING, and will not give you an advantage. However, if 20-21 takes 100,000exp and each mob is giving 1000 exp. Then 3% is something noticable .

    Math Examples:

    Each monster gives 1000 exp.

    lvl 21 Requires 100,000 exp.

You currently have 0 exp to next lvl.

Person A: Has no ring, and gains straight value of 1000exp per kill

Person B: Has the 3% exp ring, and gains an "enhanced" value of 1030exp per kill.

    (1000/100 = 10= 1% ie: 15% of 1000 = 150)

Person A: Needs to kill 100 mobs to level

Person B: Needs to kill 97 mobs to level

Getting the picture yet? It will ALL matter on the exp values and their scales for leveling. Don't freak out over a measly 3% geezus!!!

[EDIT]: Lol I wrote this in a flustered haste. Re-read the announcement and saw it's actually 2% instead of 3%. Which is an even more laughable act for you people to get angry over. However, my numbers still work just re-slot them a little :)

It seems Game.co.uk has this listed for pre-order for the UK now. I was thinking of getting the collection edition but the price difference from £17.99 to £49.99 is just to high for me.

Yes but the question is how steep is the xp curve in later levels. that 3% may verry well be worth wearing it if it takes hundreds of mobs to level the last 10 or so levels.

  • CapnSwallowsCapnSwallows Member Posts: 47

I think most of you are just looking for reasons to dis-credit the game itself,I mean a 2% xp ring,OMG 2%,come on,it isn't that big. Now on the other side,it may benifit those ring users more by the later levels where it really counts, but still,if the game is good enough that you are playing THAT long, would you really be complaining about killing a few more mobs,(it might not be a "few",it depends on the xp curve, but still),would you really mind?

couldn't it just have been a slave pet or something? pfft jeeze...

Not that i would buy the CE even then, i never buy the CE, unless the pricedifference is marginal and they pretty much never are.

Game might end up sucking, but that's one of the best CE's EVAR!   ;)

Am I the only one who read "Extra keys to give out"?

Wouldn't that mean that in essence you get X extra accounts, just without boxes? If that's the case, this offer might actually be worth a lot.

Besides that, I'm getting this package anyway. Nothing like a faux-leather map for game room decoration. As one poster mentioned, if you are a fan, you will get this, and if you aren't, just don't buy it

Hmmmm selling extra items for money...I hope they are that pro-active for the ebay sellers :P

  • VimmVimm Member UncommonPosts: 7

The only good thing about collectors editions is buying them, holding onto them for 6 months and then ebaying them at 5-10x the price to some moron.
