So, I've played WoW and EQ2 off and on for a year. I've decided that I don't want to pay the $14.99 anymore as I'm really only activly playing about 8 hours a week. I really enjoy the whole MMO genre so I'm reading all the boards I can here to find a game that is free and that I will enjoy.
Does anyone know of any free MMO's that are good like WoW or EQ2? It seems like most free ones have either some program to pay real money for items or are filled with bots...so...I leave it to the people that would know. Which game is actually worth playing?
Thanks to any ideas given.

I've been playing RF Online on the newest server. There are bots but I ignore them. There seems to be a shop but its to buy ingame money using real money. It seems fun so far but I've only been playing for 6 hours and haven't been very far in the world. Just a suggestion.
Try Perfect World or Shaiya. PW has a good quest system and graphics as well as character customization. Also no bots/farmers to speak of as well. It is a micropayment game(Item Mall) but the items for sale are mostly cosmetic in nature so they don't offer any game breaking super items for sale. Another game that is still in beta that might be worth a look at for you is Shaiya. This is a more "Korean" type game than Perfect World but it also has many quests to break up the grind and make it more fun to play. This game is an Item Mall type game but as with PW they don't offer anything that will give you an unfair advantage as they mostly offer exp boosters and stuff of that nature. The thing that makes Shaiya shine above most is the very good in game support. GM's and GS's are always on hand to offer help ranging from recovery from the very few bugs in the game to just answering basic game play questions. They also have effectively kept the game bot/farmer/gold seller free for now as the GMs/GSs are quick to ban offenders. They have better in game support than almost all of the P2P games out there. The down side is Shaiya is still in beta and all of the features are not implemented yet, the most noticeable being the crafting system.
Others worth mentioning are 9 Dragons if martial arts is your thing, Voyage Century for a more historical setting and Dungeon Runners for a campy type straight forward "Hack 'n Slash" dungeon crawler(Like the Diablo games). All of these games will offer a lot of fun and keep you busy for a while.

Great! Thanks for the answers.
Hey Brenelael, (or any one who might know) I went to the Perfect World website (http://www.perfectworld.com.my/) and it doesnt seem to load well. I can't seem to find a link to download it. Also, I read that Perfect World is not for American players?
Anyway, there is no real link I can find to download the client. Anyone know where to get it?
The site does load very slow for some strange reason but the game servers don't seem to have this problem fortunately. It seems to be under construction right now as they seem to be overhauling their site. Maybe they are addressing the slow load times overseas players have always complained about. Be patient and keep trying as it will load eventually. The download link is on the front page of the site when it's working so again just keep trying. Perfect World Eng/My(the link I provided for you) is the international version that is for everyone everywhere, Americans included. Playing this version you do run into the occasional non-English speaking player but for the most part everyone speaks English. Hope this helps you out and if you can't get the site to work for a while go and check out Shaiya or one of the others I suggested.

Edit: Here is the Filefront download link so you can get started. You can create a PW game account here, just make sure you select the Malaysian English version during registration.
