Saying no to Orcs

turnipzturnipz Member Posts: 531

Well one of the things I liked about dungeon runners was that it was unique, had it owns little underground world with cool rat people and spikewielding blobs.  But then you see its tainted by orcs and goblins.  Anyways is anyone else sick of these orcs, goblins, gnomes and dwarves that plague these games, is it so much to ask for a game that has its own unique world made from scratch?

Yeah, I totally agree. Orcs are everywhere. I really am quite disenchanted with Orcs. They were cool when Warcraft came out but now it's just the same thing over and over again. I definitely agree that games should try to invent their own enemies rather than going to the stockpiles.

On the other hand, Human, Elf, Dwarf, Halfling, and Halflings (with the Half-Orc and Orc occasionally thrown in) were THE original fantasy race selection virtually across the board. They still are. Any departure from that norm is seen as not "fantasy".

This is not really an issue... As long as the game is in an environment that isn't modern, historical, sci fi, or something like that, it'll be classified as fantasy because it wouldn't belong in any other category. I mean, if there's some kind of giant lizard in the game, it's fantasy. If there's large lush valleys and magic users... Fantasy. No one is going to feel betrayed by a game that doesn't regurgitate the same boring old crap.  I pray to God every night for a high quality MMO with unique races and enemies (not really, but you get the point.)  Here's an idea... How about a game that doesn't have any humans?

I'd love to see that but we know it won't happen.  I have a friend (who's probably a lot like other folks out there) who always makes a human character because he can make it look like himself.  How boring...

hahaha, alot of people do that with human characters, I myself have in several games but I never play just 1 character, and I dont try to make orcs, elves or anything else look like me heh.

    Playing: Not much actively.
Games played: to many to list, been playing MMO's since 2001

Chronicles of Spellborn will be in a fantasy setting, but without all the cliché races.

Not saying the game will be good or bad, just sayin'.
