So what you're saying, that every mmo copies wow? Even a game like SWG that came out well before it?

LOL to you too my friend.....LOL indeed.

    This made me laugh.

Sad thing is, other ignorant folk play MMOs.

And those that play MMOs are all around us. Dear god. They even drive on our roads! After my experience in WoW I'm afraid to step outside.

In terms of similarity, if that is the case, which in my honest opinion I don't think it is for both WoW and WAR contain different backgrounds from where I lasted check. Though, my knowledge is a little out-dated. I much rather play WAR than WoW, not because WoW isn't an enjoyable game in its own right, oh, heavens no, of course not. But, because WAR would satisfy my needs as a human being longing for some excitement in gaming, ah, well, until then I am off to play Starwars Galaxies, not that there is anything wrong with that either.

But, to remain on topic, WoW and WAR seem like two different games, so, lets leave it at that and hopefully leave the nonsense/ myth behind that the two were created with the purpose of upsetting players alike who can't tell the difference and make subject claims that WAR is diet WoW or some other riddiculous observation.

I'm amazed that men like you can be so shallow, thick and slow. There is not a man among you who will care whether I come or go....not one...not one of you

OMG WoW is a DAoC clone cause DAoC had talents also... the sky is falling.

Stop saying anything is a clone of WoW cause WoW is a copy of pretty much every single game before it. Just because you only played WoW doesn't mean it's the only game around.

I dunno if its a copy of WOW or not, sure would be nice if they'd show us stuff from within the game, I'm just not grasping it off of these boring podcasts.

    Well, let's be fair.

Yes, Warcraft did copy Warhammer's art, style, themes, etc.

However, as Warcraft did copy in the past, Warhammer copies now by importing World of Warcraft's gameplay. There were no Warhammer MMOs before this, and their gameplay so far looks nearly identicle to World of Warcraft's. Ergo, this time, Warhammer is the one following the leader.

You are 100% correct, though, on appearances. I don't think anyone will argue that.

Certainly there are elements of several games in WAR, as well as elements of several in WoW.  While not entirely true, there is great validity in the common phrase that originality is dead.  Thus, my not being a "fan" of either game.  Rather save my money for games like Fallen Earth, or even something like Pirates of the Burning Sea.  At least those games are breaking away from the now cliche "clone wars."  Heh, I wonder when someone will make a "Wild West" MMO.

A Korean company actually was making an MMORPG called Priest that was based on some Korean comic, I think. It was supposed to be a Western-Horror game and, for its time, looked pretty sweet with a great environment. However, this was several years ago and I think the project died, or at least never made it to North America.

I actually think a Western MMORPG could be fun, though I doubt it would be popular. I'd just spend all day in the saloon.

Wasn't there another Western-Horror besides Priest that was in the works? Maybe that was the one I was thinking of.

Anyways came across this doing a quick google tap... http://www.tenderfootgames.com/

You might be thinking of Exanimus? Though that's still in the works too.

    Bollocks!

I could of swore way before CCP was involved that White Wolf had mentioned something about taking theWerewolf: The Wild West  rpg and expanding it to MMO. Must of been a dream. Werewolves and gunslinging, what a combo.

On the contrary . WoW have generic classes, old tired rogue , mage , warrior, priest etc. Same with the 50+ classes , Having too many makes a lot of classes just look alike anyway since you still have so few archetypes. By having fewer , more elite classes ( hero classes if you will) , they can really go nut on the arts of the weapons , armor and caracters themselves. Exemple : Designing a Chainmail in wow , you had to make it faily generic since it had to fit multiple class AND race . In WAR a KOTBS platemail , is human shaped and reconizable from a mile away , he aint no generic warrior.

When an audience member sat down to listen to an oral epic poet in ancient Greece, he knew he was going to hear about Jason and Achilles and Medea and Atalanta beforehand, in the same way an MMOG player knows he's going to get Fighters and Warriors and Clerics and Rogues. Furthermore, our ancient poetry lover also knew he would hear about "swift-footed Achilles" or "resourceful Odysseus," in the same way our MMOG fan can expect to hear about wolves that need slaying and mushrooms that need collecting.

Such formulas - whether in epic poetry or MMOGs - are not just for the convenience of the artist; they're ultimately for the benefit of the audience, eliminating guesswork and confusion and giving people what it is they expect - a new toy with familiar packaging.

    Hello Slannmage,

DAoC had specialization before WoW was created, and Warhammer IP was created before DAoC. Mythic, the team that put together DAoC, is creating the Warhammer universe in this new MMO. Therefore they have introduced many things from DAoC due to popular demand from players (Keeps, Seige Weapons, Spec). The specialization system is there only to provide each class with an ability to be unique. It becomes rather dull when everyone is the exact same class with the same exact abilities across the board. Specialization was by no means created by WoW.

P.S. (You don't have to play Warhammer Online if you do not want to, feel free to go back to WoW).

WoW was the first have a talent Trees? LOL people really think this?

Blizzard copied off DAoC, EQ etc. You can see that if you payed these,  If wasn't for these  MMO's also. You little game called WoW wouldn't here. Also the pvp system is just joke in WoW.. Sure it's fun for while but it gets boring..

I think Blizzard has ruined MMORPG kind of. Because we have kids like you.. If wasn't for Blizzard fanbase, WoW wouldn't have lasted this long, it would be like Planeside, on life support. lol

World of Warcraft is doing well because of these reasons alone..

    1. A easy MMORPG, you don't need to put tons of time into it.   You can solo ALL the class to lvl70 without partying, This why, many people play it..  ((people like there games easy now. This why even JRPG/RPG are short now, gamers are getting lazy))

2.Blizzard has a BIG BIG fanbase.. WoW could be same as it now, but if they didn't have WC, Diablo and SC. And they just made WoW.. I'd be shocked if WoW had 500k subs.

I think because of Blizzard we have taken step back in MMOs/.. Hopefully Warhammer will fix that..

Also slannmage it's because of people like you, that really makes me hate WoW..

I still play because it's a decent MMO and this PC can't run any other MMO. So I'm stuck with WoW, lol..((Why did my good one have to ___ up?)

Also let me guess you play on Allies side right?lol

Doh!, The worst thing about this is, We still need to explain that War is not copying WoW and that WoW didnt invent anything to 8 million peeps.

Good for you OP. Does that mean that the chances I meet you on any WAR server are zero ?

Afraid not. Despite the fact he thinks WAR is going to be a WoW-clone, he will be joining WAR when he realises how wrong he was. He will realise the 2 huge differences in the games (the skill trees don't mean anything... it's an MMO ffs) which, in WARs case, will be the RvR - huge battles that having meaning, a goal, a point to actually go out and do something.

WoW is not offering any big reason to PvP, the only thing they award you with is gear, but what good is that gear when you're fed up of playing the same BG's that you've just grinded for weeks? You've got that gear, but now what? Blizzard's solution is to up the tiers every few months - that doesn't solve the issue, it extends the dead-end road that you're heading to.

EA Mythic are tackling this with actual content, they realise that people are going to get bored easily doing that sort of thing, so they're doing their best to come up with solutions to overcome this. The latest newsletter gives you some examples of how they're doing it; DAoC's conquerable buildings (/drool) They've taken something they're good at in a previous game and added it to WAR.

Yes, they look similar (they're both based on Warhammer lore, so that's a given) but since you say you're sick of playing the same games over and over then WAR should be the game for you, because it's going to be different.

Warhammer had the cartoony graphics first.  WoW just made it hugely popular.

Ok so WoW had the talent idea first or at least made it hugely popular.  It doesn't take a genius to figure out that War is a lot like WoW.  If you want to break it down further all mmo's have some type of class, levels, class customization, crafting, and zoning.  Warhammer and WoW have a lot of these in common, the only difference I can see is class and zoning.  Class just being a new name for the same type of dps, tanks, healer, and ranged dps.  But we'll leave that for a new post.
