You Might Be A Pirate If…

  • Opening a bank account requires the use of a shovel, a compass and a map
  • The rum is always gone
  • You think Captain Hook was just misunderstood
  • You think gold doubloons are an acceptable form of currency.
  • All your problems can be solved with sufficient quantities of gunpowder and rum
  • You think Treasure Island is a history book
  • Your parrot swears as much as you do
  • You’ve been banned from the pond because your toy boat keeps sinking the others
  • You know a pirate cannot live by bread alone; he needs rum, too!
  • You can swim more than 100 yards with a knife in your teeth.

Can't help but feel there is something Freudian in your response.  Meh....to each their own.

Vincenz, are you trying to be condisending because you read a book about gay pirates?

I'm not trying to say that there is something wrong with liking to read books about man on man love just wondering why your being so condisending about it. You saying "you should do some reading" like I missed out on some intelectual breakthrough by not being interested in the gay pirate novel genre.

No, my point would be that theories about pirates and a predominant homosexual lifestyle are pretty well known.  Hell, Daniel Defoe's books even touched on it.  You, however, sounded shocked at the suggestion.

    Those aren't novels, btw...they're non-fiction. (the books I quoted).

I know I was shocked, I was so suprised to hear that earlier on in histroy there we gay man, omg you blew my mind.

Really though, you tried defending a deragatory comment with some kinda of suedo-intellectual comment like "I read books so I'm super smart," I mean come on that was pretty weak. I mean what were you even implying? Pirates are gay? Ok, so some pirates are gay, again what is the point?

Do you want to start a petition to include something about pirates being gay in the OP's orignal post?

no, actually I defended a post that was pretty much historically accurate that you acted shocked to hear and attempted to turn back on the poster.

And no, it isn't "some pirates are gay" as in "some doctors or bankers are gay", it's more that pirating, as a career, and pirate colonies in particular, were almost like safe havens for gay marriage and lifestyles.

That if they had had TV back then "Queer Eye for the Sailor Guy" would have been a hit...

And my favourite thread and posts from the FLS forums today were:

Cik{OP}: Ships stern flag waving towards bow in forward movement

and Sorry genius, but normal is when a stern (back part of ship) flag waves away from the bow (front part of ship) and the stern also during forward movement. Unless you're schooled in Arkansas, normal is not when the stern flag waves 'toward' the bow in forward movement.

keline: This is an unbelievable amount of sad.

Your confederation flag points backwards from your pickup because you're going faster than the wind. Your ship doesn't.

Ah the profound and factual statement..."You might be a pirate if...you like men."

Are you trying to argue that the statement I made that "some pirates are gay" is wrong. Historically speaking you would rather say that "most pirates are gay"? Sorry but I would argue that that is wrong.

And others would too...and then others would argue that most pirates were gay.  It's actually kind of a big debate with solid points on both side.

Kind of interesting debate if you ever get bored enough to get into it LOL!

I think the more important question is:

Are the players in PotBS who play Pirates - Gay?

Even if you call your cabin boys ladies after a year at sea...it doesn't change anything!

You've got quite the imagination, perhaps you can apply it to something less deragatory next time.

Your pretty much calling me gay, why not just add in some slurs next time.

Gives a whole new meaning to "Prepare to repel boarders"!

I didnt mean to sound funny but real pirates wernt cool like the pirates in POTC real pirates many actually had homosexualy tendencies and many were actually gay,  i think there were more homosexuals or practicing of homosexuality with pirates then heterosexuality.

  • CartographyCartography Member UncommonPosts: 331

This thread made me laugh, basically because I never even thought about the homosexuality of pirates lol... I guess if you think about it, it makes sense >.> However, this game isn't supposed to be THAT realistic (not that there is anything wrong with that   /seinfeld ) <.<
