EBgames has been sending out ads for the collector's edition of AoC for $90 bucks and the goodies are rather tempting (but expensive), however the question is, is the actual game fun? I think I need to experience the game first hand before sinking $90 bucks into it.

The game is not released yet and beta testers cannot tell you anything due to NDA still in effect. Thus, you have to decide for yourself. Hype-Meter on MMORPG says that many people think that it will be fun.
As for $90, if you do not want extra "bonus" items that you get by ordering from EBGames, you can find it much cheaper (around $60 I believe). Do a search on Google's Product search.
