Hi guys & girls, just a quick question, i have my concerns for War. Will it suffer from lag when fighting in huge battles ? ( not including instance type say 20v20 ... eg )
I no that P.C hardware & software is always being updated but will the servers be able to cope with all this information that it will be bombarded with. Does server technology improve with time ?
I remeber the unstaged fighting which use to happen in WoW i think it was called Hillsbrad all somethink like that, its been a while since i played, but anyway when ever it got real hetic, it use to lag like hell, i no that the instance PvP was o.k but what about the general world which you stroll around in. When Orgrimmer ( shit seems like years since i last typed that, lol) was realy busy it use to lag alot.
I just hope that its lag free so i can enjoy stabbing all those high elfs with my dark twisted bitch elf
I'm currently holding off building a P.C until this game comes out so i can use the latest parts, & plus its gonner take me about 4 months to save up, especally as i had to pay for a bloody washing machine & if that wasnt bad enough the cam belt went on my van & that was another 600 quid

WoW's city fights lagged because the game was improperly designed to account of people wanting to PvP through there even though they promised city seiges. Eventually they gave up and although you can siege a city...WoW lags like hell.
WAR's entire game pretty much depends on large battles and city sieges. Rest assured that the game is optimized for it...because if its not....WAR will pretty much fail. Since WAR is all about WAR and they've not renigged on anything they promised (infact they've added to the game *go beta testers!*) I'm confident the game will be able to more than handle large battles leaving any lag mostly client side if your comp can't handle it.
If your connection sucks and your pc sucks no matter how well they optimize the game and the servers you'll still lag

I don't have the confidence of the previous poster but I don't believe you'll see lag as bad as what DAOC or WOW has suffered as technology has improved in those areas. Now, one thing to keep in mind that in a lot of cases the lag was not due to server load or connectivity issues but rather due to the abilities of the client. More times than not it is your own computer generating the 'lag' as it cannot render and process fast enough to keep up. When tons of spells effects start flying it can really grind into a processor.
Agree to this.
And also Ever since the huge battles started in WoW, blizzard has made many changes and many other mmorpgs have done the same thing with either scaling down the GFX automaticly as there happens too much on the screen so your comp might fry ect.
Servers have gone a long way of upgrades and you no longer lagg in the huge games where there might be hundreds of people at the same place, so the WoW haters and other haters to another games that lagged in large scale pvp before, they prolly don't lagg at all now, so get your ill informed/poorly updated arses out of here.
WAR will hopefully have taken all the ideas and feautres the other mmorpgs did to fix those large scale lag/fps problems, and you'll enjoy WAR like any other fan of that game. And to the bad mouthing of WoW @ #2, just lol, go see your shrink and talk about the abuse you had in your childhood or something, Blizzard couldn't implement certain features because thier servers wouldn't be able to handle or balance them back then, they are now able to do so and doing it, also i know many features they have wanted to bring in since day one are first showing up now but hey even without those WoW was more polished a game than any other with more content and so on, so really if a candyice bar has over 400 flavors and they couldn't get the last 10 flavors, doesn't mean they ar terrible, they got the 400 other flavors, which tasted great, didn't they? Spoiled kids these days....
You'll however ofcourse see lag on flooded servers, which is a given....
Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz.
so the best option to be would turn off any / all spell and shader effects as soon as u know a city siege is going on, that way your PC wont have rendering issues, thats what i had to do on EQ2 when i went anywhere near neriak, i used to turn it to a raid profile just so i dint lag myself down a ditch lol
No the best option is not to have a Video card thats Older than Series 7 Nvidia card, a crappy onboard card, and definitly not to have less than 2 Gigs which is pratically the norm for all games.
If your computer has any of the above issues or a single core thats less than 2.0ghz then don't turn everything OFF just turn down the resolution.
EQ2 is a horrible example they did not build their game at all for older to medium systems it was poorly designed as high end system game only. thinking that people would just upgrade or keep up fast enough even then it still had issues with high end systems.

The key in huge battles/encounters is keeping your level of detail low, making sure you have enough RAM, and having a good video card. The fact is there will be lag in WAR. However it may not all be Mythics fault
Torrential
Torrential: DAOC (Pendragon)
Awned: World of Warcraft (Lothar)
Torren: Warhammer Online (Praag)
Depends, how's your network performance?
Okay, well, after the temporary blindness from huge lime-green font subsided, I think you can expect WAR large-scale RvR not to lag badly -- but this is also somewhat dependent on your comp and connection.

Couple thoughts about that:
~ Mythic knew from the get-go that large-scale RvR battles were likely to happen. Thinking they might have actually planned for it.
~ Back in old DAoC, I could play reasonably well even during huge Keep battles during which you might have 50 to 100 players scattered throughout the area.
~ WAR graphics -- thank goodness -- are not super high-end. If they were, I believe it would have been a real problem for players without super high-end computers. I think the overall graphics are better and more detailed than WoW, for example, so that they are pleasing but will not require a heavy processing load.

Stabbing High Elves?!
(Warning: Smack-talk starts here!)
Bring it on, Witch Elf beeotch!!
We got Shadow Warriors to fill you full of arrows!
Swordmasters to slice and dice you!
Archmages to nuke you, heal himself, and nuke your butt again!
And the last class will probably be the White Lion pet class, so a big, big kitty will be biting your legs as the master hits you with a big two-hand sword.

Either you love High Elves ... or you love to kill High Elves.
I love them.
