myrddinstarhmyrddinstarh Member Posts: 5

i have a listing in my sciences area under trainable skill for reverse engineering but i cant find the skillbook anywhere in the eve universe. the skill is supposed to allow you to reverse engineer an item into a blueprint so you can make more of them but i have not been able to find any trace of the ability in the eve universe.  is the book a mission reward item or just not available any where in the game?

if you plnow where to find the skillbook  please evemail gilliana silverdrill whith where and how much. i am an industrialist player prefering crafting mining and researching. i'm based out of kulelen in the citadel region.

I am a maker not a Breaker. I grease the gears that make the world turn. Master Craftsman with anything i can make.

Ok on Evemon it is a skill you can get in the Science section after you get Science 5. Now I looked in contracts and didn't see it. So there are three possibilities, one it does not exist, two its loot from a agent, three its in the LP store.

    Does not exist. Period.

evemon has a bunch of skills in it that don't exist. like  "TEST Drone skill (5)"

EVEMon has several skills listed that aren't in the game because they pull their skills list from the skills db in the game. There are several skills in the skills DB that are not unlocked within the game yet. Reverse Engineering is a skill that's been in the DB for ages but has never been implemented so remains there at this time. It ws replaced by the invention skill sets. Not sure why CCP hasn't pulled the skill descriptor from the DB but it's possible they have some future use in mind for the skill.

RE is the only thing that would pull me back to EVE, it is why I rejoined the last tu updates. As mentioned above RE is listed in the data base but never implemented.  It is one of the favorite carrots CCP likes to dangle but will most likely never be implemented.

at the bottom of the skills list thats a tick box saying "Show non-public skills?"   untick it to get rid of thngs like that and the Polaris skill that meer mortals like us will never have

Don't know what you mean by that CCP have said some time ago that RE will never really happen now that we have invention. Which is something similar but not the same. You basically get a item be it tech 1 or 2 and a data module i think its called, put them both in a lab and there is a chance a tech 2 blueprint will be made.

If RE requires lab research, good luck. Seems like all the labs are completely full and always in use.

Actually I did give Invention a try and it is nothing like what Reverse Engineering was going to be.  With RE you were going to have the ability to "brand" as well as create BPOs from objects.   To be successful at invention you need to have a BPC, the actual object, the datacores, etc... and this will provide you, if it works, with a limited run BPC which is no where near the quality of a normal BPO.

Where RE was going to give us MFG class a way of making real is Invention simply does not justify the cost.  By the time I payed for the fuel for my POS, the mins, the BPC, the item, the data cores etc... yes I was abelt to invent a T2 BC 4 run copy. But I cound not sell the ships for enough profit to justify my expences.

Now, Invention is targeted for the giant corps that can donate all of the items to their MFGs, but for the small corps or the Mom and Pop shops like mine, well the cost is too prohibitive.  I was forced to use most (90%) of my POS labs just for copying BC/BS prints and selling them to buy the items needed for each invention try. Which was about 30*70 odds of actually getting a BP.

But this is all old news, the bottom line is that RE would ballance the game to much so will never be implemented.

Guys, LE John has some valid points but it's points he refuses to let go. CCP mentioned reverse engineering ages ago and he's been looking forward to it ever since. While I agree it would have been cool to have it it's obvious that the devs wound up going a different way. He is a vet of the game and knows about invention and t2 bpo's and anything else you can think of :) He wants RE and won't be happy unless by some miracle they put it back on the project list.

Doubt that will happen though. But trying to convince him that Invention was meant to replace it is a waste of time. It's a debate he's done here dozens of times :) It's not worth the effort.

I will argue his statements about invention though. The prices of T2 items have dropped drastically since invention went in. And many many many manufacturers are doing invention now, not just alliances but individual manufacturers as well.

Take hulks for example: Pre-Invention: 550-600mil each
    Post Invention: 100-130 mil each
Who makes them? Everyone and their brother.

Sometimes ccp puts things in the game, that they will use later on. But atm there is no way to reverse engineer.

Use POS labs.  The public lab slots are backed up for weeks.  A lot of people will camp a slot that might be free sometime soon just to discourage other people from doing research.
