In chapter 8 "Ships no longer have a parking location, allowing ship view and launch from any planet or terminal." I really don't see the point of making this so easy. It takes away from the fundamental design of "landing". In fact it makes it far to easy. On the other hand is this to encourage more players to try space?

Try Beast Master make a few pets it is very complex and fun.
The travling thing is trival at this point.

in my opinion, chapter 8 is good except for the parking location thing. Nova Orion is an awesome place to RP at, the new heroic, although i havent tried it yet, has got to be cool, boarding a star destroyer and tearing it up and all :P New collections are cool, i am absolutley IN LOVE with the new design stuff but yeah, the parking location thing seems a bit unessicary it prolly has something to do with being able to take off at aurillia without being able to land there but w/e

I guess it's because some players managed to park their fighter in a remote location (Kashyyyk), and then complained to customer service for not being able to fly.
So this change falls into the category "SOE can save some CM money and use this to add more interesting content elsewhere"....
Whats the big deal about this change? People before just destroyed the Yacht to get a ship for travel if they happed to get to a planet without a ship. I guess we could "smart up the game" if we brought back 10 min shuttle waits and all the other timesinks.
Since when was shuttling to your ship complex?
You read all the time in Star Wars books of the pilots comming their astromech droids and telling them to fly their ship to their location.
Seriously, who did SOE consult with when making this change? Why was it even an issue, and were there not simply more important and meaningful changes to make?
How did this become a priority over other things that wer asked for?
I believe it's what the NGE community want i remember when all us old timers were asking for decay back and to have a death penatly but the 2 polls were in favour of not having them in. It shocked me actually because these are things that in the original SWG help socalise and without them the game is rather boring.
Oh well though SOE and LA ruined this game and it's a joke in the mmorpg genre and known as the biggets failure of all time and everyone will now remember these two companies for ruining what could have been a great game so they got what they deserved.
Only thing i'm sad about is having nothing else out there to play because SWG used to be unique.

I agree with what your saying but it's this and many things that seem like small changes but actually really harm the game int he grand scheme of things. It's like SOE adding all these expansion gifts and them instant shuttles you can use anywhere on the planet, harms the economy and harms the social side of the game which is what we loved about the original game.

Please, I'd like to see some examples on how it hurts the game. While we're at it, examples of how ITV's hurt the game would be good too. In the case of ITV's, do remember that they don't instantly take you anywhere...

Instant Travel vehicles take out the waiting which i loved to stand by shuttle ports or starports and chat to people and that's why JTLS ruined the ground game too because you could instantly travel anywhere via that instead of waiting and they remove the 10 min waiting time to 5 mins and then 1 min which was ruining the game. Also now it doesn't really matter due to all the instant travel everywhere but if done on it's own in the old game then it's another money sink gone out the game.... not that theres any anymore and it's just something that takes the social game out and tries to speed everything up.
You obviously like the game so i'm not going to bother arguing with you on the topic but all this instant crap is what's going wrong with the game and obviously the class based system it's got int he game now and the cheap UI and the horrid character movement which is too fast and ugly oh and the ugly jumping and the stupid FPS style thing thats in the game which yes you can customize to sorta what we had before but thats just a sign of it being broken and it doesn't work well anyways.

You can't use an ITV from a NPC city, so people still need to use the standard shuttles just as much as they used to. Sorry but I have to disagree, standing around for 10mins was not helping the game at all. Forcing people to socialise is not the best way to approach socialisation within a game. Some will like it, but most will be put off by it. I don't like waiting for buses/trains/planes in RL, why am I suddenly going to enjoy it in a game? A 1min wait is plenty.
Oh but waiting 10 min for a shuttle at a shuttleport was so very complex.
And once again you just proved that all you disgruntled vets can do is make fun of people and name call, because they enjoy something you do not. Very classy.....

No, shuttle waits were not complex.
They just added to a dynamic social environment.
Undeniably shuttle waits could be a pain in the butt, but I'd gladly accept them for the betterment of the community.
Much like vehicles, mounts, ITV's, meaningful camps,instant shuttle access removes those moments when one would sit back and take in the environment. It's within those moments that people began to talk.
It's not an issue that is right or wrong. It's an issue based on preference. I for one prefer a game that encourages these moments without it being all about combat.

Not really a digruntled Vet as I currently still play SWG matter fact I have 4 account all on SOE station pass..with the abilty to have 2 toons per account I have a strong active guild on wanderhome do too poup contraints and Im the only one in the guild.(I also have toons on bloodfin my orginal server)
but I'm under no obligation to defend SWG as a complex game, do that would be rather fanboish and unresponsable of me.
10 min shuttle waits were put in for one thing and that was as a bottle neck for player to socialize to get to know people, meeting point..etc it was that for alot players I meet some really cool people waiting for that shuttle, and watch and also particapited in some epic duels in the cornet starport. This was to prevent players from going from A to B with out the thought of what it ment to be in MMORPG. Players like Obraik who have the end in mind and dont care who they pass along the way.. Just get me there as fast a possible. RK orginal world was that of a SWG sim and he knew if certain mechinism werent in place very few players would take the time to get to know there fellow player.
It was these mechinism that made the SWG commuinty back then. from DOC's to ENT's to Crafter's, combat toons all interconected.
They replaced that with the WoW version of SWG...and ripped those commuinty elements out.
Which is way people rail so hard agaist SWG:NGE as the PRECU game play wasnt so vastley superior the commuinty building tools were people felt like they belong and we all need each other.
now if you want to debate certian aspects of how the game is not DUMB down from previous intertions I would be happy too. Please bring up examples(beside beastmaster which on concede the point already)
As the general consenus is SWG:NGE is a Dumb down version of previous iterations.
If you like to prove other wise then by all means do so..

Thanks for a well thought out response. It is appreciated. I will not argue the fact that the game has been dumbed down. What I will argue with is the fact that to many people make fun of people who still play the game. It is foolish to make fun of someone because they enjoy something you do not. ( not saying you specifically)

Nice job at making assumptions I have no issues with socialisation in the game, I'm all for it - I am one of the topend AS's on Chilastra currently, so Socialising is a big part of my gameplayHowever, shuttle wait times are a very poor example of "dumbing down the game" and a bad way to go about socialisation. They irritated most people, especially with the people that thought it was cool to call out their huge Kimo's/Fambaa's/<insert huge creature> and have it stomp around just to annoy people.
They have to dumb it down to suit their current playerbase. If not the poor souls would be running around naked and at level 1 for an eternity.
The world would be a much better place if all involved with SOE and LA would just have stayed as a blotch on their parents sheets.
There's no reason to be little anyone that still plays the game. I don't play anymore since it has headed in a direction since the CU that i'm not fond of and won't spend money on. Have i played in the NGE, yes i have, very briefly though. Reading this new patch that has come out and the little things that SOE keeps taking out of how it was in the origional game makes me understand that their not really trying to push the game off as a MMORPG anymore, more like a FPS online game.
They really couldn't care less about the social aspect anymore and pretty much taking it out of the game. Yes, shuttle times back then sometimes could be a little much, but it wasn't bad, helped people make more friends ingame. The playerbase that SOE wanted to sub up after the NGE is not geared for wanting to sit back in camps, walk and discover new areas and things, sit and talk with others at shuttle ports, hospitals or cantina's.
SOE took a game that was differant than all others and made it into every other game. Classes, lvls and fast paced content. I will go out on a limb here on what i truly believe will happen. Since SOE is so truthful in their hadling of this game, i will make a prediction. My opinion only though on what i see the direction of this game heading in.
SOE won't lose the liscense to use the SW IP, but they will drop the game from being an MMORPG to a regualr FPS game that can be played online as well on the PS3. Bioware/LA will then announce the new MMORPG SW title. It just makes sense, with all the things SOE is taking out of the game.
