Nova Orion Publish?

HozloffHozloff Member Posts: 193

Not sure if anyone has taken the time to read the new publish... While it does introduce some nice features: the Ord Mantell space sector - some new space ships etc. there are some points that really reflect the true concept of the NGE. For instance:

Jedi:

  • The Saber Block buff may now be applied with any weapon.

Ships:

  • Ships no longer have a parking location, allowing ship view and launch from any planet or terminal.

Space:

  • Greatly reduced droid command reuse time on most droid commands.

There are others out there cannot be asked to list them all but these are the sort of things that, in my opinion, harm whatever immersion there is left in this game, for no apparent reason. Not to mention the name of the publish: Nova Orion. That sounds more Star Trek than Star Wars to me...

i have talked to friends of mine who tried it today. almost all of them will be leaving at the end of the month after this chapter.

one who is a pilot has said space is no just unplayable thanks to this and his 4 years of working on his ships is just gone. also now all the fanbois beg him for rides up to the isd. and saber block should go back to what it was back when it was balanced in the pre-cu. this game is so much of a joke now it's sad.

soe must have lost 3k players with this chapter.

I honestly wonder what has gone through the brains of the SWG developers over the past few years. And after so much time, they've never learned their lesson. It's like they want the game to get shut down, or maybe SOE is running an experiment to see how horrible they can make a game before people finally all leave.

It surely can't be a good business model to continuously create anger amongst the people who are your bread and butter.

They've moved into the Pakled stupid dimension, the SWG devs had.

Watch this stupidity be reversed shortly.

CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested.

If this was real Star Wars we would have a ton of dead jedis if they tried to block with anything but their Lightsaber.  Who was the Dev genuis who dreamed this up.

As a vet, I find these changes, as they read, quite ludicrous.  Saber block with a blaster?  Park my ship on Dantooine and reclaim it at Kaadara?  WTH?

But a quick browsing of the first two pages of the gameplay forum on the official forums found not one thread discussing - pro or con - these issues.  This tells me that the majority of present players are okay with these changes.  I also see no evidence of a new mass exodus over this patch.

Like or not, 'we" are not SOE's customers anymore.

Edit:  Ooops, did find a thread talking about the ship parking.  "Tbh its a needless change that makes no sense and is simply dumb."

It's already dead.  All that they have left is the group that would buy a shit brick if it had the Star Wars logo on it.

Everyone else has quit or moved on to other games.

They aren't going to get anyone back at this point, because those who left didn't leave because of lack of the crap they keep adding, they left because of the NGE.

I'm not 100% sure but I think you guys have it wrong. I will test tonight but the way I read it is that saber block can be used by with mele weapon and if you use saber block with any mele weapon other than a lightsaber it can only block other mele weapons.  If you use your lightsaber then you can block mele and ranged. You can not use saber block with a ranged weapon equiped.

This makes perfect sense because a jedi uses the force to block it is not lightsaber specific. So mele v. mele is right and LS v mele & ranged is right.

Again not 100% sure but I will test tonight. If you can block with a ranged weapon attached I agree it is a little odd. However a jedi could use a carbine rifle to block a mele attack.... not all that crazy.

And just for the record here is the full explanation.

    Jedi:

The Saber Block buff may now be applied with any weapon. The parry bonus will still only be applied under the current rules: Melee weapon vs. Melee and Lightsaber weapon vs. Melee and Ranged.

I didn't mean just SWG, but rather all MMO's in general.

Wow, do some of you even play the game or just complain to complain. All this change did was allow the saber block icon to be displayed.

If they use saberblock with a saber: They get the full effects.

If they use saberblock with a melee weapon: They can block melee attacks.

If they use saberblock with a gun: They get a small bonus to parry, which does nothing.

This is really for the RPers, who want to play as a force sensitive, and not a Jedi.

So please stop whining and go play WOW or something.

With such cunning wit from their current playerbase, It's a wonder this game hasnt launched into a new season and totally capped the servers with subs far overshadowing anythig Pre-cu ever did.

ok...I'm done now. Just had to say something since Antwan's normal troll account must have been banned and he started off fresh flaming the vets here.

You are correct in regards to Saber Block..

Havent really went into space or even read what was introduced and that not because I dislike space, I like alot and have 3 plus years in an A-Wing. I was focused on different elements of the game, Which I still give SWG Kudos over alot MMO's even if those elements are not the same as before.

I see why people would be upset about space as it had a very high bar in terms of entry and took years to build a ship, unlike a combat toon on the ground which take months.

With that said I would glady trade in my 3 years work in order to get more players involed in space pvp etc..As it often that while in deep space Im the only one up there for hours and when someone does come long aside from a few players there at a handicap...

So Im all for lowering the Bar of entry to space.

As was stated in a early post the saber block only really works if you have a saber equipped, so it's a non-issue. With the "your starship is parked at every starport" it's a removal of a timesink, nothing more. With the new heroic encounters it is very easy to get seperated from your ship just by moving between encounters.

I think most people would rather play the game and get the group formed up fast then wait while everyone takes 3 shuttles to get to their ship.

  • Yes but such changes remove any immersion that you are actually IN a virtual world.

In EVE, you can have "jumpclones" in multiple locations and insta travel to them, but to move ships requires actually flying them through space or loading them into a freighter and hauling them through space.

This and the ITV are for those who want "instant gratification".  I never wanted that in SWG.  I didn't mind it taking 6 months to unlock and grind Jedi, because I felt the reward was worth the journey.  If I'd been able to create one on day 1, I'd probably have quit well before the NGE.

Really this Chapter has almost no 'Instant Gratification" in it...

You get the Gunships via the Space Kills Collections. And I should note that some of the ships you'll be taking out are somewhat hard to do. Imp Gunboats and Corvettes are on there... Me I feel the grind is a tad too long, the Gunboats and Corvette kills could be cut back a little from 25 to 15 but that's just me.

The higher Tier Fighters are much harder to face... Now I'm someone who can fly head on into a spawn of Tier 5 TIE Interceptor's and have a good time taking them out. Last night I tried a few Tier 8 Ships in my Eta-2, and out of 4 of those ships I was able to take out one. I'm going to try it later on in my Heavy X-Wing, B-Wing or Firespray (for the heavyer RE'd guns, the Heavy X-WIng is loaded with 3 RE'd reward level 8's, the B-Wing has 2 level 8's a level 9 and a level 10 RE. And the Firespray has two Level 10 RE's on it) I did however take out a level 6 and the rewards are worth it imho...

The only real Instant Gratification I can really see are with Droid Commands. Running the overloads is much faster now, so one doesn't have to sit there after lauching and load up the Reactor, Engine, Weapon Cap and Weapon Overloads over 5 minutes or so. Took me about a minute to load up all of my Droid Commands...

As for the Saber Block change, it is mostly for Role Play. A friend of mine who is an Elder Jedi told me last night...

The only faults I really have with this chapter are the following...

Just putting in the Naboo N-1 Starfighter for Freelances. Yes they needed a Ship that was up there with the Imp TIE Interceptor and Rebel A-Wing. However both Rebels and Imp's have also been asking for a new Fighter as well. Imp's have wanted a good 'all round' ship like the Heavy X-WIng, I don't think it would have killed SOE to put the TIE Phantom in as a Imp Heavy X-Wing. Rebels have wanted there own Eta-2, talking to a few of my fellow Pilots, we feel the whole Eta-2 war would end if Rebels had something like it as well. Putting the Delta-7 in (It's in the art files I believe) wouldn't have been a bad thing.

Reworking some of the 'lesser' used ships in the game is something almost every Pilot has wanted. By this I mean reworking Bombers or the 'bigger' Ships into something people would fly. In PvE or PvP, granted a good Pilot can get kills with a Y-Wing LP. But we would have mind seeing some kinda fix here.

Nova Orion looks good, but some more Art could have been put in. The Stations Launch bays just have nothing in them. Also a few other missions could have been put in as well.

I wouldn't say it's a 'great' Chapter. It's a good start, however as someone that plays a Smuggler I still feel burned by the whole Smuggler Expertise and Smuggling System. Something SOE put in and told us they would be working on and adding onto as time went by... That more or less turned into "Smugglers? We're working on Commando's now!" Well then again they have been ignoring Smugglers from the games launch... My fear is after Chapter 8 they will once again ignore Pilots, who dare I say are some of the most loyal Players they have.

Also the Dev's have stated this is the first time many of them have worked on Space. So I can understand all the time it took to get this out...

And fun follow up note someone from Kauri I believe did contact Deadmeat about the low Pop Servers. He posted screen shots for us to see...
