2-3 hours of gaming after work vs 2-3 hours of work after gaming?

ive been reading many debates on these forums for the past while,

grind vs non grind

permadeath vs non permadeath

carebare vs open pvp

and i got to a conclusion on what separates the 2 sides

casuals and hardcore gamers

just out of curiosity,

what type are you?

1- i come home after a long day at work and i want to relax on some fun MMOS with my guild

2- i come home after a long day at work and i want to sit and play till early morning hours making strategies for the guild

3- i play 8+ hours every day and when i cant i play every sparing minute

4- i play 1-3 hours per day with my friends for the fun of it then i go back to my real life

the #1 and 2  only applies if you have a full time job and possibly a family to feed

    My Life by Chilliking

After i get home from school, i like to sit down and play MMOS with my friends / Guild / Kinship  (LOTRO, most of the time).

After a few hours, I might go out with my girldfriend or hang out with some friends.

And I am trying to get atleast  2hours workout every day.

And I am proud of having a social life and being a gamer at the same time

     Thanks for reading

Sorry if my english is not understandable.

Option 2 is the one i choose. As this doesnt apply to me atm, it is most likely how my life will be when i find a great enough MMO to play.

I come home after a long day at work and i want to relax on some fun MMOS with my guild. I work hard to keep my ontime sessions under 4 hours. Thats one of the reasons I ultimatly hasd to leave WoW.

Until I find THE mmo to make me want to play every waking hour of the day, right now I just play an hour or 2  of wow then play guitar or read a book. Basically doing other things that waste time until more work. All my friend are hours away from me so I don't get to see them much anymore.

Im very hardcore but in bursts.

Sometimes work is crap and I have no social obligations or like recently I broke my ankle and was out of work for 10 weeks. A bit of escapism doesnt hurt anyone if you have nothing important to escape from. During a month of escapism I'll grind like no tomorrow from the second I get back from work til I fall asleep. When real life gets better again (I get a few good invites going on or find a new exciting job) I'll most likely quit the game as by then I've completely lost any enjoyment for the game anyway.

I'm in-between.  Usually a few hours on weekdays, but moreso on the weekends.  I do my best to keep touch with reality in other things like Kung Fu, going out with the fam, and other 'walk away' activities.

Number four for me. Even if I'm currently not playing very much of any mmo that's usually how it turns out. I play around 1-3 hours a day. I would consider myself a casual player in pretty much every care there is.

    5) I spend long days at work and want to come home, eat, and sleep.  On weekends I play 3-4 hrs a day.

Those for 3 are in game, no time to vote.

I voted 2 (I'm insomniac) but not sure on the wording 'want', I do but not always sure why.

Used to be the second option about 2 years ago, at the moment I struggle to play any games even the ones I like for more than 30 minutes without getting bored. So guess I would be the last option at the moment.

I chose option four it fit best for me.  I wouldn't call myself casual I'm just not willing to sit for more than 5 hours playing a game anymore unless its a weekend and I loose track of time.  I do like to chill with my guild but my guild is primarily people who I'm friends with.   I've found 'hardcore' do as I say army guilds that came into overwhelming power & demand in the last couple of years a huge turn off.

I disagree with how you separate hardcore and casual.

I'm someone who doesn't play comparatively many hours a day (1-3), but I like the time I spend to be significant.

I like to play anti-grind, full/parital loot, FFA PvP.

So my playstyle is fairly hardcore, but my time spent is casual.

I am a heavy weekend player for the most part, I don't really have that much time to play during the week. And I'm also waiting for a certain MMO release, so this is definitely a downtime in gaming for me.

I didn't vote because I have probably averaged 30 minutes per WEEK in mmos the past 5 years or so. Some weeks I might play 2-4 hours every 2 or 3 days which is frequent for me. I am married, have a full time job, two young kids, and a pretty busy life.

I'm sure that if an mmo like I really want was to actually be released, then I'd play more and make more time at the expense of some sleep or something.. but right now there really isn't any games out there that is worth losing sleep for in my opinion.
