GW 2, still considered casual?

GreatnessGreatness Member UncommonPosts: 2,188

Considering Guild Wars 2 is coming out, do you believe it will still benefit casual players like Guild Wars did or will GW 2 lean towards hardcore players?

I'm thinking it might offer more to the hardcore this time around, but I'm totally guessing.......

definately to early to tell yet, they have hardly released much on it.  I'm sure by E3 we'll get new info.  But they have said that they do plan to have more persistant zones rather than so many instanced zones and they are looking at allowing the level limit to be much higher and even possible no level limit at all.  Which i'm thinking it more or less will be only asthetic rather than just stopping at 20 each time you gain a new skill point you also gain a level to but more than likely the level won't have much effect other than a new skill point.

plus as far as the whole group of heroes and henchmen thing is now a thing of the past, they plan to only allow one NPC type hero to assist you but supposedly that will be enough.  and you can opt to not have the NPC there and you are supposedly buffed to compensate for the hero not being there.

only time will tell, personally i think the hero system was the best aspect for casual players in GW1.

supposedly they are shooting for it to be equally fun for solo and group play so hopefully it all works out as planned :)

Not much has been released, but I can say that I hope it will aim for the casual players.

I'm guessing it will cater to both due to the Companion system. Remember, levels stop counting after a certain level is reached, meaning that it could very well still be "capped" at 20. It seems as if they're broadening their target market.

From what Jeff Strain said, they're going to take a different approach by completely separating PvE from PvP.

There will be both casual and hardcore PvP too.

As for the details, it's way too early to say.

Games from big name companies most likely will not be geared toward "hardcore" players. You can thank WoW and Vanguard for that.

WoW because the game at the base is for casual players, even though the endgame is mainly for hardcores.

Vanguard because as a game geared toward hardcore or "core" players, it had a dismissal showing. Investors will no doubt look at that game, look at the subscribers, and look at the publicity it got. That's sure to scare away a lot of people.

No web site for the game yet....right ?

There's a wiki for it at the moment which is wiki.guildwars2.com

A new website is to be expected soon.

    From http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Guild_Wars_2/FAQ#Levels

Am I going to have to endlessly grind to be the most powerful I can be?

No. The amount of power you get at higher levels will reduce significantly. At some point you will not get any more powerful by gaining more levels.

If I understand correctly, that means that it would be relatively easy to catch up to the higher-level players in terms of power, and that leveling up at higher levels would be mainly for show (like GW1 titles are). So yeah, i think there's still room for casual.

How is this different? PVP is already seperate from PVE in Guild Wars. Personally I Yawn at yet another fantasy title.

Only small tidbits here and there have been released, no screens or anything  big yet.  It's going to be awhile till its released, the beta wont be out till late this year probably

I think this company is great at handling press coverage, never too soon to over hype the customers, but never so late as to be forgotten.

The current Guild Wars is more hardcore, just try to get in a r50 guild, and you'll see what i mean. ;)

Guild Wars 2 will have the same Hardcore PvP, combined with the softcore world PvP (which I am looking forward to). Hardcore PvP might be fun, but once in a while a human wants to relax, and the current PvP doesn't have any of such features.

And overall, GW2 will require shader model 2.0 (probably) so I suppose we'll see some nice new effects. Increased polygon limit, giving the company a chance to create really nice actors and other meshes. Etc.

Just one thing bothers me... will Guild wars 2 still be original?! As I'm reading the previews, it does sound great, with tactical world PvP etc. But that has bene done before, maybe not at such big scale, yet it isn't original. The races are original, that's about it.... so far!

You know it, the best way to realize your dreams is waking up and start moving, never lose hope and always keep up.

Since when is there a r50?

PvP-wise, if you want a break do Alliance Battles, Fort Aspenwood, Jade Quarry, Random Arenas. Those aren't near Hardcore.

Considering we don't know much about the game yet, I'm sure they are the only ones who know. At least the original races are a good sign.

  • LydonLydon Member UncommonPosts: 2,938

Ah sorry my mistake thought he meant r50 as in a tier in the Fame title track. Got a fright there.

  • If Guild Wars 2 is aimed at the casual gamer, then that in itself would be a big plus.

I don't know for sure about it being more hardcore but the are broadening the market for other people. by making it way more fun to make a character by adding different races

Indeed, Closed and/or Open Betas are probably going to start August time of this year and it may be an April/May release 2009 to coincide with the birthday of GW1

But thats a rough guess, don't quote me on that
