If you compare an XP system and a Vista system with the same hardware XP will be slightly "faster" on gamming mostly because Vista uses more resources. We have tested a few Vista machines at work and found it to more more of a hassel than it is work. 1. bad drivers, and, like stated, companies are slow on making working drivers. 2. the networking with vista and cross systems just blows. Also i sense there is an issue since M$ is arleady making its replacement scheduled for 2009 (that is 2011). I am praying forXP/XP 64 dx10 version becuase it is not logical (at least for me) to buy a buggy os until it is has at least 2 service packs lol.
Microsoft WILL NOT make a DX10 for XP, They've said it at dozens of press releases, and its on their forum everywhere. NOW, somebody will find a way to make DX10 work on XP Eventualy, BUT support will be nonexistant, and more people will have problems making it work then those who don't.
Read my previous post. Wine already did it, most people got used to MS's way of doing business, so they found a way around it, a long long time ago...
Getting A system to RUN a DX10 game, and Actualy getting DX10 to work RIGHT are TWO DIFFERENT THINGS. Wine doesn't actualy allow you to take advantage of DX10 Features. Its a WORK-AROUND. Hardly the HOLY GRAIL of DX10 Projects ALSO.
That's what you have OpenGL for then The combination of both should run pretty good, the normal, clean DX 10 will of course work better. It's just an alternative.
You know it, the best way to realize your dreams is waking up and start moving, never lose hope and always keep up.
Nvidia didnt screw up with dx10.1. If anything ATI screwed up with dx10 in general. And now are hoping their new dx10.1 cards will help them along eventhough the features they support wont be used until they are obsolete.
If ANY developer makes a dx10.1 game in the next 3 years they may as well just throw it in the garbage can.
Noone will be using dx10.1 for at least 2 years. Its not even a real upgrade.
That DX10 screenshot looks like it would be a nightmare to see someone hiding in the shadows. For PvP I might have to go with the DX9 screenshot.
The DX10 version does look nice but you'd probably need a graphics card with more bam than a F1 sports car and re-morgage your house just to pay for it.
Well the example is a bit confusing. Are the DX9 graphics cranked up to the max? What type of graphics card is beinig used?
According to my brother, who tests ATI graphics cards for a living, DX 10 is a joke. He says there isn't enough of a difference between DX9 and DX10 to warrant buying Vista. Just thought I'd pass that along.

I don't know who took these screenshots and what kind of setup they had. I just found these screenshots from some webpage discussing from AoC. After watching few other shots and movies I might just have to upgrade to Vista after all. I know the OS is bit choppy but I think my system can run it with ease.
It's the amoung of work you need go through that holds me back, backup all files, install all neat programs again and tweak settings etc.
Honestly: Dx10 is the only reason to install Vista. This means Microsoft is trying to make money on gamers, selling them crapy OS with only one great feature – DX10, and this is simple bold encouraging to piracy...I am not interested in shooters, but after Crysis was released most of my friends installed illegal copies of Vista as a second OS, just to run this game in DX10. With modern HD having 500GB or more 2 OS are not a problem. I think MS is trying to abuse gamers, but has shot their own feet.
Forget what the haters say...there is nothing wrong with Vista. Maybe it's just me, but I've no problems with it. People are afraid of anything that is new...
i must agree with the last post, i have found nothing but further enjoyment out of my PC cince i put vista on. and DX10 is more butter on the bread. YES i love the xtra lil eye candy, even if thats all it is. I love how easy it is to find files and programs, how clean my desktop is, the shading, the windows...the customization. Dont have the gear to run vista at enjoyable levels...dont use it. but to be honest it doesnt take much to run it, think of it this way....XP is like an old game, its doesnt require the new graphics or RAM or CPU's. But Vista is the next gen (in many many ways DX10!!!) when you want to play the next gen of games...what do you do? Upgrade. Why would you think OS would not evolve...compared to the new gen of games and such (Crysis) Vista offers many wonderful and downright good looking pluses at a fraction of what next gen stuff does. its all perspective. Games will move on to DX 10 because it offers more and looks better and runs better. Vista...thats where it is at, and i cant wait for SP1 to make Vista better than it is now.
Didn't you guys learn anything? There are DX10 games on the market right now and the difference between DX10 and DX9 is almost indistinguishable. Effects on those screens are most likely rendered or can be achieved under dx9. To summarize: AoC DX10 version will be nothing more than a resource hog running at 15fps.

These screen shots are from Microsofts campaign to promote Vista and DX10.
I never upgrade anything pre launch. A game has to deliver for 3 months at least before i throw in more money. From what i have seen i will be happy with DX9 and i think my old rig will run it quite smooth.
There is some other links on those pages that take you into veiws from different companies on the matter of DirectX 10 and 10.1. With that being said it seems to me like Microsoft is starting to get themselves lost in a circle of some sort. Releasing product or software and then taking 3 years to fix it before it runs smooth. Almost sounds like a few mmo development companies, heh. But thats another subject. Anyways the articles are a good read, even though they are a few months old.
Vista is terrible... had it on another system... they might say it is quicker and more secure than XP, I say in real world, it isn't even close... I'll never buy anything Vista ever again (well, I might try it after maybe SP2.)

*Coughs* You are aware that Lotro will never use DX 10.1, right? As they're sponsored by Nvidia, and Nvidia screwed up with Dx 10.1.

Did some searching around the net and came upon some articles that may open up this conversation a little.
