Race and bloodline

panachepanache Member UncommonPosts: 397

How does race affect you in EVE? What does bloodline affect ingame? If i make a Caldari and my mate is Amarr are we seperated by faction or not allowed to enter eachothers space??

Keep the info coming :)

Race and line effect your base stats as well as what career choices you have the option of (this is still during character creation) which determine your starting skills

    Hi

Are choices made at character creation "cast in stone" If during play i am leaning more towards a miner when my creation choices were more military am i "gimped"?

What is a good starting race? I like combat but can never see me owning a dreadnaught :) i'd be pretty happy blasting npcs and PVP is something that doesn't interest me...

I wish I had the time to try each race and experiment a little, because choosing the right race and path in the beginning must affect your career choice (o at least make it easier in the start). I have heard discussions on www.eve-online.com forums about which stats affect careers and skills the most. Obviously a different race selection will affect what stats you will start with.

Keep in mind some learning skills can increase certain stats. With dedication you can increase a stat you need to help you in a specific career.

race has a few factors involved in it, but eve is designed to be unrestrictive so that true roleplaying can shine through.

each race and or bloodline (2 bloodline per race)  has a starting attributes set that you can add to a little bit (5 extra points to raise).  there are manuals and posts about the starting positions.. i would take the time to research if youcareabout such things, if you dont then dont get too caught up in it, you could spend hours trying to sort it out if your anal like me.  each bloodline and race have specific slants  industry - combar - etc.. but you are not bound by anything.  EXCEPT! Atrributes effect learning time, so if your like me with 24 mem (with implants and learning skills to lv5) and with only like 11-13 in perception-wil-charisma then you can train some things (industry skills) really quickly, but things like ship command and gunerry very slowly.  so if you want a well rounded char try for a race / bloodline that does not limit you too much.  IE is not stacked in one attribute more than others. this is where your own personal interest in roleplay versus game play comes in. if you dont know then go for the middle ground.

race also effects where you start in the game... but it really hardly matters.  picture eve is like the world without visas.  you start in place X but there is nothing to stop you from going to place Y.  so where you start matters little.  like the real world as well you can be of Race A and work in Race B's region, no problems.  So little worry there.

race will also limit you to which skills you will have at the start.  you can learn any skill in game (providing you have the pre-requisites) so dont worry about this either.  start with whatever skills you want (check eve-i.com for guides.. or any other site out there for help in this department) and then learn the rest as you go.  race does NOT restrict skills, and therefore does not restrict anything in game.

one thing other than attributes that Race does effect is your avatar (which you can create or do automaticaly). Each race / bloodline has a different appearance - clothing - hair etc..  but as the avatar is only seen in when you show info on someone, or are in a chanel with them .. its really not that important .. so again your personal prefference is all that matters.

    hope that helps. image

Afaik all the bloodline bonuses are currently disabled, and I don't know if CCP is planning on activating them.

I'd advice you to go to www.eve-i.com and check the starter tool there. It'll give you an idea on how the bloodlines, starting skills (unimportant) and attributes (highly important) work. Most important thing is to realise what attributes to go for, as the bloodline determines your starting attributes.

Charisma, as it is, isn't much good for anything. There aren't many Charisma skills, so you can learn them if you need them without much loss.

Perception is the number one skill to go for if you're planning on going for a career in piloting and space combat. Willpower is important as well, as most piloting and gunnery skills have it is the secondary skill. Intelligence and Memory are likewise crucial, as you'll need plenty of mechanics, electronics and engineering skills, plus drones.

If you're not planning on going for a career as a pilot (or a pirate), just do it the other way round.

charisma is good for tradeing with NPCs. but im still not sure how many NPCs actually do business and adjust prices.

I poured in lots into charisma. Im doing pretty good as a merchant, but i think it is b/c of me not my character. So maybe i could of done a character with better int and memory and i could of gotten lots of mechanic skils for free instead of now investing in it.

But right now im in a corp, and they bought me a new ship and gave me 500k to do business in the market. And they are helping me learn my skills. So cool. Wonder if there is a way to increase my atrributes still?

Starting skills don't really matter at all. They are all cheap as dirt and it takes only a few minutes to train each one up to level one so it's really only about attributes, role play and your avatar.

Attributes: Highly important and you'll regret a wrong choice here for the rest of your EVE experience. Attributes actually don't do anything except help you train skills. If you have a high charisma for example it will have no effect on how NPC react to you. Only your skills do that. No matter what you do don't waist attribute points on charisma. There are so few charisma skills out there it's not really worth it having this attribute high. Perception is very important if you intend to train navigation, spaceship command and gunnery skills. So if you are going to be a fighter or want to fly many different ships well and fast then go for perception. Willpower is also important for pilots but it is rarely (can't even remembar any skills) a primary attribute so it is not as important as perception and even if you're going to be a pilot it may be worth going for int rather then willpower. If you want to be a manufacturer or a researcher then memory and int are the most imporant ones.

Role Play: EVE has a very good backround story and a lot of players are involved in role play. You will not fly for long through Minmatar space without seeing a Amarr pilot trying to cause trouble or get some slaves. If you're into role play then I'd read some of the articles on the web site. Many of them are quite good even if you're not into role play.

Your avatar: EVE has a very fun avatar creation system and you can make a unique character. All the races and blood lines have different looks so you might end up choosing your bloodline based on how you want to look. I for example am Minmatar-Sebiestor cause you can make them look pretty cool. My avatar for example is the best looking one in the game ;)

A hint for you when you begin: The learning skills are very important. I would get them all up to level 4 as soon as possible, level 5 if you think you'll play for over a year cause that's about the time it takes to break even if you train them to level 5. It takes a lot of time to train them to level 5.

IIRC the only way to change your stats once character creation is complete is through implants (which arent particularly easy to get) so the stats choices at creation are important (assuming you understand what they actually do!)

The skills can all be picked up (for money) once in game, although it makes sence to tailor your starting skills to your desired (initial) playstyle as much as possible - its also worth mentioning that skills have different prices so it might be a good idea to pick up any expensive skills you can during creation (unfortunately you only find the prices out once your in game so you might want to make a 'throwaway' character first to check the market out in advance

You can have 3 characters on an account BUT only 1 character can be advancing in a skill at any one time

Skill training is free but takes real time (even if logged out) the rate is determined by the stat it is based on (higher stat = faster advancement), the level you are training up to as well as any other skills (such as learning) that lower training time. You lose skill points if you die and your clone (if any) isnt of a equal or higher level to your current total skill points

The charater selection is the most important thing u have to choose as this will determine the path u will be walking in eve.

Due to the skill system in eve u won't be able to make a new character later on and grind away till u would catch ur older character....so.....choose wisely!
