How is SOE involved with PoTBS?  Are they producing it such as Vanguard?

Vincenz you suggesting that SOE is going to gain control of PotBs later on?  Why do you think Flying Lab would allow that to happen?  Everything I've read suggests that Flying Lab is financially sound and has no interest in allowing that to happen, plus I haven't seen a thing that shows SOE was interested in a take over.

I'm simply suggesting that SOE has a track record of stepping into situations when they think a game is "underperforming" and making it worse.  IMO, POTBS is a niche game...could be a successful one at that...but if SOE isn't happy with a niche game, then things could change in dramatic fashion.

SOE has made some hugh mistakes such as Star War Galaxies, but what they did with Vanguard was an improvement, so they aren't all negative either.  I'm not concerned with SOE meddling with PotBS as they have nothing to do with them except for hosting the game, if SOE tried, Flying Lab could leave anytime they wanted.  Having SOE host the game has the added benefit of an instant audience from all the Station Pass holders such as me, and I know plenty of other Station Pass holders who are going to give this game a try because of that fact.  As to a niche game, isn't all of SOE games bascially that, only WoW went mainstream in my opinion.

    Couple of points here:

SOE is just the Distributer / Publisher / Biller - but in some ways they ALREADY control PotBS.

How?  You cannot play PotBS without going through the SOE Launcher.  You cannot patch PotBS without going through the SOE patcher.  You cannot subscribe to PotBS without going through SOE Billing.

AND you cannot even post on the FLS Forums without an active SOE subscription.  SOE really is the Gatekeeper.

How might SOE gain total control?  What might cause FLS to sell out to SOE?

IF the game underperforms (financially I mean) then FLS might decide to move on to another project?

So what do they do?  SELL.

And who do they sell to?

Well, I can almost guarantee there will be a clause in the SOE contract that gives them first option (and maybe even the right to approve / deny ANY deal).  Because, in a contract like this, BOTH parties have to be protected.  SOE would not have signed a contract if FLS could just bail out at any time and leave them high and dry.

So, if PotBS does not sell enough units and can not retain enough subscriptions to at least break even for FLS then it could well end up with SOE.

Not saying this will happen.  Just saying that it could.

Nothing says irony like spelling ideot wrong.
