you could make exploding eyes in second life if you wanted to.

and wurmonline is right up ATITD's alley*, but there's actually fighting and a server that has PvP that's could easily be considered more hardcore than EvE's(full item loss no insurance, skill loss in every skill in grindier skills like weapon smithing you could end up 6 hours back in time).   there's also the home server which has no form of PvP(still animals) on it at all unless you want to enter the economic or biggest build game.

*fully player made world 99.9% of items and towns are player made and crafted.  even the epix need to be crafted from dragon hide.

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

beware though to the weak of mind it can eat your life.  it is also very much so an indy game, it might not look it when you're looking 8 KM into the distance or advancing up the small crafting tree but everywhere else it will feel like it.

Try to play Dwarf in Lineage 2

lets see it's in gold primarily because the devs ran out of cash.  it's free to play with one limit skills and characteristics can't get past 20, after that it's 10 euro every other month(though the devs really want you to pay 10 euro every month spending five of that on silver).

lets see while it can be EXTREMELY grindy to get skills up, it doesn't have to be because every craftable item is usable to some extent or another at any QL(in some of the most important tasks QL doesn't matter much).

the community for reasons various reasons is pretty small, 500 or so paying players and a few hundred handfuls of free players.  the community used to be extremely helpful and there are still quite a few helpful people around, though even with the few people that try to make life difficult for new players a majority of it should be very welcoming.

Dwarves are the only race that can craft or gather materials

I'm not sure I understand how crafting can be exciting.  I'm usually satisfied with "less tedious than in other games."

I tried Wurm Online.. it gets repetitive really quick.  Aside from that it's like Atitd on steroids. You can terraform and craft anything in the game provided your skill is high enough. Of course since nonpaid accts can't pass skill 20.. your limited in what you can do.  And there's alot of drama in Settlements so if possible.. don't join one lol.

Try Star Wars Galaxies, four crafting professions, resource harvesting machinery and a lot of depth.

I'll have to add my .02 with Vanguard. Its the first game where crafting is my priority. In other words I level my character in order be able to use the stuff I make.
