jedi was one of the most balanced systems in the game after the village came out. perma death was an unfair system to us and no one wanted it. the only thing that was unfair was how bh's could kill you and be rewarded but we didn't get a reward for killing the bh.
some of the best pvper on kauri and bloodfin were not jedi. and those guys could stand toe to toe and face 3 or 4 jedi at once and win. we played jedi cuz we wanted to play jedi bh/cm was really the pvp class to be.
you have said time and time again that you were more of a space player. and after seeing your view on chapter 8 i have to say you knew nothing about the ground game.

It is people like you that are the problem. Why? Because SOE figured out that they could do whatever they wanted to their customers, and some people, like you, would still apologize and defend their decisions, shill SWG to new players that don't know any better, and most importantly, keep paying their $15.
How many times has Smedhead or other devs come out with a statement saying "This game is no where near fun yet" or "We realize that all this stuff is broken, and we are working to fix it (most of which never happen)"? Many times. And how often have they cut the price or offered non-canceled people free months/weeks of play? Never. Why? Because they don't care about their current players, only the ones they don't have anymore and might be suckered into coming back. How many vet trials have there been? 3 or 4 in the last year.
It's called "Enabling bad corporate behavior" and it is what many of the current SWG fanboi types do. SWG, in it's current form, is bad. It has had many of it's most complex and rewarding game mechanics stripped away, and it STILL doesn't work. It's a barely functional Beta, after 5 years and on its 3rd core game system.
They screwed all of we "vets" over, wrecking the characters we built, the community we built, and the items/resources/economy we built to chase more subs. And we hold them accountable, by letting people know what they did and not to play this game or others by SOE because of their bad behavior.
Get over it? Most of us are over it, playing SWG that is. We are also over ever playing another SOE title again.

The only thing SOE cares about is the bottom line. And like or not, we former SWG players have affected the bottom line. SOE probably wishes we hadn't or couldn't or were the so called "vocal minority" that they always claimed. Well, SOE's name is mud in MMO development community now, and really, their repuataion is of their own making. This is why they are putting "Platform Publishing" on the boxes they put out for other people now. Their reputation is that bad.
SOE has given up on ever making another investment in SWG, thus no more expansions.
Many of us are well and truly over SWG and do not obsess about what SOE did and didn't do. But electrons are free, and if a few of those cost SOE a future customer, by telling the truth about how SOE has treated their customers in the past and continues to do so up to the present, it costs me nothing and SOE $15.

I am not a fanatic nor am I so obsessed with destroying SOE's reputation that it consumes my every waking moment. However, I am a regular gamer who happens to love the Star Wars franchise. As far as I am concerned, SOE screwed me over when they released the NGE and that is just not something I will likely ever forget as a gamer or an SW fan. Does this mean I hold a grudge? Your damn right I do. As a customer it's my right to hold a grudge against a company that treats me like crap and then basically tells me to go to Hell if I don't like what they're doing to a product I paid for.

Free trial is the way to go, IMHO. That way you get to see it without risking so much as a dime.
I'd encourage anyone who has played the game before to try it out via free trial and come to your own conclusions about the game. Chances are high, IMHO, that you'll reach the same conclusion of the vocal minority, but everyone is different, so find out first hand and decide for yourself.

Well, did you fix the graphics card issue? There has been quite a few changes since May, with Chapter 6, 7 and Chapter 8 going out this week.
I appreciate the positive nature of Obraik here but if you did not like the NGE when it 1st came out chances are you will not like it any better even with the small improvements they have made. I recently went back to a game that was simply crap in my opinion and the biggest thing against SWG is the piece of crap interface it has they can make it the best game in the world and that interface will still stick out like a sore thumb. I gave all my rare items away millions of credits and deleted all my toons thats how bad it was to me. To make swg good again 2 things need to happen 1st a pre- cu server ,and another interface revamp . I am glad there is a new generation od players enjoying themselves I have no problem with that at all,but if your a vet coming back you most likly won't like it.

Just don't expect others who hate it, for whatever reason, to keep quiet simply because their opinion runs counter to yours. You're entitled to your opinion as much as we're entitled to ours. Despite my feelings about SWG and it's current state, even I have to see a flaw in your argument. There are many games on the market that "require" the use of mods during gameplay. For example, in WoW you need a threat meter mod and, in many cases, a raid assistance mod (CTRaid) if you plan to join a raiding guild. If you don't get the mods then odds are you won't be raiding with that guild for long. Does this make the game "seriously broken"? No, it just means the raiding guilds have found using these mods improves the experience above and beyond what the developers currently offer in game. Of course, since using mods in SWG is apparently a violation of the EULA, it's probably not a good idea to recommend them to new players.

Actually no, a head CSR posted on the forums that using appearance mods such as UI mods will not be punished as they do not give an advantage to playing the game - they just change the looks of things. However, they will not offer support for mods and issues that happen caused by them, such as forgetting to update your UI mod to the version that's compatible to the current Chapter. Even DeadMeat, the Producer of SWG tipped his hat to Anach, the creator of the UI mod.
You don't HAVE to have the UI mod for the game to work, it's just a personal preference based on taste. You can't do anything with the mod then you could with the default.

I'll stay turned to see them change the EULA until it says MODs are illegal unless they fix something so f'd up with our game that they are a better fix than what we can come up with.
And yet, people continue to apologize for the devs. BASIC GAME DESIGN 101: a player should not need 3 hands to effectively use combat specials and move and aim without moding the game. I have never seen a bigger a joke of a UI. If the UI you designed needs this, with or without 49 keybindings, here's a little hint: your game design SUCKS!

jedi was one of the most balanced systems in the game after the village came out. perma death was an unfair system to us and no one wanted it. the only thing that was unfair was how bh's could kill you and be rewarded but we didn't get a reward for killing the bh.

some of the best pvper on kauri and bloodfin were not jedi. and those guys could stand toe to toe and face 3 or 4 jedi at once and win. we played jedi cuz we wanted to play jedi bh/cm was really the pvp class to be.

It is people like you that are the problem. Why? Because SOE figured out that they could do whatever they wanted to their customers, and some people, like you, would still apologize and defend their decisions, shill SWG to new players that don't know any better, and most importantly, keep paying their $15.
How many times has Smedhead or other devs come out with a statement saying "This game is no where near fun yet" or "We realize that all this stuff is broken, and we are working to fix it (most of which never happen)"? Many times. And how often have they cut the price or offered non-canceled people free months/weeks of play? Never. Why? Because they don't care about their current players, only the ones they don't have anymore and might be suckered into coming back. How many vet trials have there been? 3 or 4 in the last year.
It's called "Enabling bad corporate behavior" and it is what many of the current SWG fanboi types do. SWG, in it's current form, is bad. It has had many of it's most complex and rewarding game mechanics stripped away, and it STILL doesn't work. It's a barely functional Beta, after 5 years and on its 3rd core game system.
They screwed all of we "vets" over, wrecking the characters we built, the community we built, and the items/resources/economy we built to chase more subs. And we hold them accountable, by letting people know what they did and not to play this game or others by SOE because of their bad behavior.
Get over it? Most of us are over it, playing SWG that is. We are also over ever playing another SOE title again.
Think SOE won't screw you over in the same way? Just wait.... and we'll give you the world's biggest "I told you so!" when they do.

You know the sad thing and its really sad ,is that you people actually believe that anybody gives a shit, they dont ,no one except people like yourself care about Pre NGE most especially people that are playing the game now , and as far as SOE are concerned I personally been a subscriber with them in one or another for years and have only ever had a good experience, and I'm sure that alot of people would agree they offer great games for good value and are constantly improving all the time.

The only thing SOE cares about is the bottom line. And like or not, we former SWG players have affected the bottom line. SOE probably wishes we hadn't or couldn't or were the so called "vocal minority" that they always claimed. Well, SOE's name is mud in MMO development community now, and really, their repuataion is of their own making. This is why they are putting "Platform Publishing" on the boxes they put out for other people now. Their reputation is that bad.
SOE has given up on ever making another investment in SWG, thus no more expansions.
Many of us are well and truly over SWG and do not obsess about what SOE did and didn't do. But electrons are free, and if a few of those cost SOE a future customer, by telling the truth about how SOE has treated their customers in the past and continues to do so up to the present, it costs me nothing and SOE $15.

To the OP it is nearly useless to get an unbiased opinion in here the fanbois's will say yes and the vets will tell you no. Just try to get a free trial and decide for yourself before you throw your money down is your best bet. Or just resub for a month thats only 15$.
I'd encourage anyone who has played the game before to try it out via free trial and come to your own conclusions about the game. Chances are high, IMHO, that you'll reach the same conclusion of the vocal minority, but everyone is different, so find out first hand and decide for yourself.

I appreciate the positive nature of Obraik here but if you did not like the NGE when it 1st came out chances are you will not like it any better even with the small improvements they have made. I recently went back to a game that was simply crap in my opinion and the biggest thing against SWG is the piece of crap interface it has they can make it the best game in the world and that interface will still stick out like a sore thumb. I gave all my rare items away millions of credits and deleted all my toons thats how bad it was to me. To make swg good again 2 things need to happen 1st a pre- cu server ,and another interface revamp . I am glad there is a new generation od players enjoying themselves I have no problem with that at all,but if your a vet coming back you most likly won't like it.

Despite my feelings about SWG and it's current state, even I have to see a flaw in your argument. There are many games on the market that "require" the use of mods during gameplay. For example, in WoW you need a threat meter mod and, in many cases, a raid assistance mod (CTRaid) if you plan to join a raiding guild. If you don't get the mods then odds are you won't be raiding with that guild for long. Does this make the game "seriously broken"? No, it just means the raiding guilds have found using these mods improves the experience above and beyond what the developers currently offer in game. Of course, since using mods in SWG is apparently a violation of the EULA, it's probably not a good idea to recommend them to new players.

Actually no, a head CSR posted on the forums that using appearance mods such as UI mods will not be punished as they do not give an advantage to playing the game - they just change the looks of things. However, they will not offer support for mods and issues that happen caused by them, such as forgetting to update your UI mod to the version that's compatible to the current Chapter. Even DeadMeat, the Producer of SWG tipped his hat to Anach, the creator of the UI mod.You don't HAVE to have the UI mod for the game to work, it's just a personal preference based on taste. You can't do anything with the mod then you could with the default.

I'll stay turned to see them change the EULA until it says MODs are illegal unless they fix something so f'd up with our game that they are a better fix than what we can come up with.
And yet, people continue to apologize for the devs. BASIC GAME DESIGN 101: a player should not need 3 hands to effectively use combat specials and move and aim without moding the game. I have never seen a bigger a joke of a UI. If the UI you designed needs this, with or without 49 keybindings, here's a little hint: your game design SUCKS!
