Hey, I am planning on buying a laptop to play AoC on, and i was wondering if you all have any suggestions on what to buy. Apparently the processer speed minimum for it is 3Ghz, but i cannot find any laptop on Bestbuy.com that have that much. Anyone know why?

For starters you'll need a gaming laptop specifically. As I just bought a laptop for gaming myself, I will tell you that you wont find anything of worth from best buy, or circuit city. Most of them come standard with substandard video cards. You will have to spend a pretty penny for a gaming laptop, specifically one new enough to handle newer games. Id try alienware perhaps, though for a top o the line system you are looking at a 3 to 4000 dollar price range. Again stay away from those big name computer retailers, if you do manage to come across something that will in fact be a gaming laptop, you are liable to overpay for what you got.
Check out www.xvxonline.com for an alternative to alienware.
Is the processor speed 3 Ghz minimum for windows vista, as well as Xp?
That 3ghz is for single core.
Here you go, got 3 different laptops here, newegg.com, ASUS, all reviewed well. 1500-2000 price range. Not the best gaming, but will run AoC.

I'd suggest just holding it out for these two months like everyone else said. If you got the cash, alienware will fulfill your need to game beyond just AoC, and its probably easiest unless someone else comes and gives direct suggestions.
Oh, ok, so 1.5 Ghz minimum for dual core?
Asus is apparently developing an external graphics card attachment for laptops. Probably won't see that for quite a while though. When it comes to gaming laptops Asus really has a nice edge in the portable arena (that is, 14" - 15" laptops). What you really need to focus on is the GPU they have. If it's a 14-15" laptop you're looking for the best you can get is an 8600GT, however, I doubt it would be capable of running AOC on full settings. If you want to run AOC on the highest settings you'll probably have to go with a 17" laptop, but what is the point in that. Otherwise I would wait for the next iteration of mobile graphics cards from ATI and nVidia. I believe they're both working on GPUs with smaller cores which is absolutely crucial in gaining significant performance gains in mobile chips.
In summary: If you want a laptop that is portable go with one that has an 8600GT.
Edit: The folks over at http://www.notebookreview.com/ would be able to help you a lot more. They have a forum dedicated to helping users find a good notebook.
None of these have video cards that are really considered High end. beyond that you can find the same stats on other comps that cost far less. The one chose had almost the exact setup to all of these. Only it was about a grand, not a grand and half +.
I would personally start at 2.2 and if you can afford better go for it.
Yeah exactly what Arcken said. If you want a top quality laptop that can run the latest and upcoming games, you'll have to dish out quite a lot of cash. I just got a brand new gaming laptop 2 weeks ago. I wasnt so sure about getting it at first due to it's price but they are damn fine quality machines. If you are a serious gamer, and im guessing you are because your on MMORPG.com, gaming laptops are definately worth the price. I am extremely pleased with my purchase and the latest games like The Witcher, Supcom, Quake Wars run perfectly on max settings. (Crysis only works well on Medium settings lol) Anyway, if you are willing to pay the price, then go for it and get a great gaming laptop.
Im just looking for something that can run AoC smoothly, dont care if it runs on the minimum specs.
my suggestion to you is to hang onto your money until AoC releases. Why gamble with your money?
ye, thats what my origional plan was.
Can this laptop run AoC? Heres the link www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp
get a labtop with 8600 or gt gts support dx10 and obly 8600 and 8800 does that i think / if u go with nvidia
I have my doubts that the video card in that box is adequate for gaming. I'd recommend you consider upgrading to this box.

Looks pretty ok setup to me and I think the price is still doable, if you're into laptops.
Im on a pretty strict budget to find a laptop, im looking for something around 1 thousand dollars (preferably cheaper than that), and i am also looking for something at Best Buy, seeing how i have a couple hundred dollars in gift cards there. So, think you guys could help me pick out a couple there?
I'm using a Alienware m9700, your not really going to find a great deal on a gaming Laptop due to quality components. If money is a key factor and space isnt an issue I would highly recommend getting a PC. You could get a high performance PC slightly cheaper than a Laptop. Unfortunatly, you wont be able to find anything that will run AoC for 1000 or <1000.
Are you sure, because I found some laptops on Bestbuy.com that look like they can run AoC for <1000
Pretty sure, Minimum req for AoC is at least 256MB of Video, 1G of memory, and most importantly 3 GHz CPU processing power. All are very essential for running AoC, although you could buy your video and memory to meet min req and just overclock the CPU, but you run the risk of over heating your Processor. If you decide to Overclock you need to get the best or a formidable cooling system such as liquid cooling. It ultimately comes down to what you can afford. Buying a well built (high end) PC is better in the long run, reducing the time it takes for programs and games to make your system obsolete.
Okay dude, I got the solution for ya.
I recently ordered a laptop for school and a bit of light gaming myself, and I ordered it from dell (gasp!) the reason? Buying it from big companies can actually save you money through customization. Dell has a $300 coupon for systems that cost over $1200 bucks so you could essentially get a laptop for under $1000. My laptop costed about $1100 and it beats the listings from newegg on this thread. My rig comes complete with 2.2ghz Intel Duo, 256 Nvidia 9600 GT, 2 gig of ram and 250GB HD. You just have to do your research before buying and consider big companies.
Granted, the laptop isnt as high powered as others, but it will get the job done.

Oh wow, they have one for 400 bucks. Damn! If I would have waited another day I would have gotten a bigger discount. Wow. Sucks
2.2ghz Duo, 256 graphics, 2gb ram 250GB HD > apply coupon = around 1k costs.
Seriously, Id take that 400 dollar discount and run with it. Go to Inspiron page, look at the 15.4", go for xp andyou should be able to max out your settings easily and still come off with around 1k cost. Very good deal. Wish I would have waited 1 more day
Ok bud, this is the best i could do, this is bare bones for $1079.
choose: 256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8600M GT = $1079
&
choose: (Recommended) Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7250 (2.0GHz/800Mhz FSB/2MB cache) = $1179

@ Op, give up. You obviously dont have the money to get a laptop thats decent enough for AoC. You keep going back to best buy looking for laptops that are under 1k that are good for gaming and best buy has NONE. People on this board have told you this.
Just get a regular laptop so you can check your email and send your IM's to your girlfriend, Stephanie. And spend whats left over on a console. You will appreciate your purchase so much more when u do that.
