The word on the street is that Open Beta in Korea will soon come along. Then Open Beta in EU and US regions. Actual product release is projected for the 1st half of '08 for Korea and 2nd half '08 for EU and US regions. This is all speculation based off of what the Devs themselves have stated. As we all know... nothing in development is set in stone... otherwise is wouldn't be in development... it would just "exist".
I personally am expecting to see a X-mass '08 release date for the EU and US regions.

Do you really think the U.S. release is a whole year away?
I think that's a big mistake (if this is true) as this game will be up against Warhammer and Conan, which if I remember their launch dates correctly, will already be out.
So does this game follow the same model as GW? Pay for box, then no monthly fee?
Also, where does the hype for this game come from? I've gone to the web site, and tried to read what I can about it, and I find 1/100th the info about it compared to (again), Warhammer and Conan, and some other games to be released this year.
I've seen some screenshots, but I personally find them useless for judging any game. I've played countless games (of all kinds) over many years with killer screenshots, just to find horrible games underneath.

Warhammer and conan will be out once Aion is released here, is that a problem? hardly.
NCsoft has already stated that they want to release a fine tuned game, they are selling a game, not an idea, they have the biggest dev team ever seen in a MMORPG (150 people working on it) to do it real.
There will be a monthly fee, many european representatives have hinted so, retail box+monthly fee, like Lineage2 or Wow.
The hype comes from people who have researched mostly, lately, lots of people have been researching about this game concept and ideas, there's a lot of info out there, but again, NCsoft has declared that they don't want to hype the game yet, as they don't want people to see the unfinished product, the korean beta leaks, the interview in allvatar, videos from sunshineaion, articles from thisisgame and gamemeca being translated, and the few hints NCsoft is giving us, is more than enough to get us hella hyped, cause some of us are seeing in this game what they ever wanted, in a non vaporwave way.
I'd recommend checking this Nihilum article (nihilum is one of the best guilds of WoW, if not the best) since it's pretty informative, and will probably give you hints to enter into the wtb status:

That is what has been stated by NCsoft Europe. But as always, release dates are often changed due to various factors, and a Christmas 2008 release might not actually be accurate.

I don't think this matters much to NCsoft as their main audience is the Asian community, where western games like the ones you mentioned don't attract as many players as they do in Europe and NA. I agree that the title should be released as soon as possible- but I would rather see a well polished game structure than a rushed release of an unfinished product.

The marketing plan hasn't been announced yet, but I'd say it would be fairly accurate to assume a standard monthly fee of $14.99.

Judging from what I have seen, most of the hype comes from the released screenshots and videos, which attract new people to the community -- this is true. But for those already involved in the community, a lot of the hype comes from the fansites, where news from the official Korean website and from representatives of NCsoft Europe are posted.
An official community website for the North American and European players is under construction.
I'd recommend checking this Nihilum article (nihilum is one of the best guilds of WoW, if not the best) since it's pretty informative, and will probably give you hints to enter into the wtb status: http://nihilum.mousesports.com/en/article/34,aion__the_tower_of_eternity__preview__2nd_part/ And if it's enough to hook you, www.aionsource.com will be there for your daily needs.
It's not the 'best' guild, it's the most highly accomplished and ranked. What best is what is best for you. If you're a member of Nihilum and love your guild, then yes it's the best...
^_^ However Akhaal's article on Aion is pretty great!

Thats why I said "one of the best" which isnt really open to judgement since they trully are one of the best guilds in wow, "if not the best", which would require to find out the factors involved in that, something i'm not gonna do, thats the reason for the conditional "if" :P

NC NA president has said "second half 2008" (interview with him on this site... just posted).
I seriously don't think the audience for this game will (for the most part) be the same as Warhammer or Conan.
And remember, Happy Fun Ball may stick to certain types of skin.

Amazon made an estimation when Aion was first introduced in E3 2006, their date isn't confirmed by anyone, euro/na retail is aimed for the second half of this year, that's all there is to know, luckily though, we will be enjoying a decent beta before that.

None know for sure yet, Korean close beta is over though. Next might be open Korean beta or European Beta.

Thanks for the links Ephimero , I learned more about Aion than I ever knew before. It's looking good.
