Bottom line - a new and potentially exciting MMO is in sight, and I cant wait

markyturnipmarkyturnip Member UncommonPosts: 837

grr...

I promised myself not to get excited about another MMO, but the beast must be fed, and the truth is that despite my best intentions I am getting excited about this, and have preordered. It seems to offer so much of what I want... number one being meaningful world pvp (why oh why has that been so hard to make)... although I am still a little suspicious of videos with mobs sitting around like lemons waiting to be aggroed.

Anyway, AOC, you are the next big hope.

So a message to Funcom: please be real!

Or else, well... um...  nothing, but I'll be let down yet again, and that's a shame for me at  least.

I really couldn't stand another bug-infested, bore-fest.

Oh i feel you man i cant wait for this baby to come out. I have even preordered 4 copies and my wife has watched me play all these mmo's and she has said to me that we will both play AOC together :P.  All of my online buddies have pre ordered as well. We are online every day talking  about AOC like we already know its going to be the best thing since slice bread. This is one game i dont want to beta test as i want it to feel special on the big day. Funcom i do hope you realise that everyone is counting on you to make this the daddy of them all. Damn 2007 was a bad year for mmos

Good luck to you on that. The idea of every class having some form of stealth makes me think of a boring gank fest.

When I read that, cause I didn't know it before a few days ago...

Told me that AoC will be a game I will cheer for it's success because success means competition, and free markets require such to work...

but I sure as heck won't play the game.  I hate stealth in games as it is, so I'll cheer you AoC folks on from the stealth free enviroment of WAR.

Ya i hear that. I m not dissing the game if you like it great everyone has different opinions, but i for one hate stealth and will be seeing above poster in WAR.

Hopefully this will make you not play, because AoC doesn't need people who don't know how to read properly or are extremely slow in the head.

Just to clarify for those who don't know, every class can TRAIN stealth and stealth detection. Stealth wont be the as in other stupid MMO's like WoW or EQ2 where the character is basically invis, there tons of factors that make it so people can be seen while in stealth -- such as weight of armor, walking on grass or gravel, light outside, in a shadow, direction from players, how much stealth detect someone has etc etc.. It is NOT a stupid stealth system like WoW or EQ2 where the person simply goes invis until they are on your ass.

This game is far more advanced and complex than the child-style mmo's out there.

Again, I'm glad someone like you is put off the game.

Good to hear but it s still some form of stealth that s all i m saying. I m not dumb or slow i m just giving my opinion. I have read what you just detailed but like i said it s still a form of stealth period.

No need to get touchy, but he is right. The AoC system encourages specialization (sp?) Theres no point in making an iron-clad behemoth trained in stealth... waste of training - the points (or whatever) are best used elsewhere. Besides, if you were the guy with the sword, would you run at your enemy for 400m and then jump on him... running.. screaming braveheart style? If your Mel Gibson, maybe, but I wouldnt. Even if Im not the sneakiest person in the world... I can probably close to 60 or 50m without being noticed.

The ultimate solution to every problem: more space marines.

I don't see how you see it could be a gank fest though. So might as well try making informed posts rather than shots in the dark.

Chances are all classes except rogues will be training full stealth detection over stealth itself, so stealth will be a minor advantage.

anyone reccomend a good video card for this game around $200

  • LeucentLeucent Member Posts: 2,371

Ok i ll say it in my opinion. I ve played many games with stealth. DAOC , Shadowbane etc. In those said games with stealth, theres always those group of players that tend to hang out in busy or well used areas stealthed up while others are just trying to get to the fight etc. When you re running to your group or something in that manner, it is really frusterating getting nailed by 2, 3, hell even 10 invisible players. I like to see my opponents and prefer to be see so win or lose it s a good, fair fight. I m just saying no matter what steps are taken by the devs, if stealth is in you ll always get those groups of players doing this. I know theres alot of people that like that and like not knowing if an invisible player is about to pop them at every turn. I m stating that i don t thats it and those situations will happen if stealth is in the game.

That's why in AoC you'd train up stealth detection so you can start blasting those ass gankers before they jump you.

I'd recommend doing some research on AoC and check out the You Tube videos, especially of Assassins (they show some stealthing), and you'll see that stealthers are not = to pwnage.

Wow.  Would you say something like this to his face in real life?  If not, why would you come off so rude here?  Because it's the Internet?  And if you would, you need to work on your people skills.  If I were basing the game on you as its community, I'd move on to something else.  I sincerely hope your attitude and rude remarks are not representative of the real AoC community.

Actualy I doubt funcom cares whatever someone can not read properly or is extreamly slow in the head.  Anyhow back on topic. I personly dislike stealth however will still give this game an try. Maybe it is not as bad.

    ^^^^HTML failed me.

Try not to make blanketed statements about entire communities. It's a bad habit. Anyway I never have had a problem with stealth in MMO's. It was only really bad in DAoC, but in other games stealthers always had the disadvantage in a fair fight, and there were many ways to turn a gank into a fair fight if you were good. Often enough, you could get 'gank' circumstances with a stealther who doesnt stand a chance simply because he hasn't gone invis.

Ahhh, that fat, greedy beast.  I think the last game I got this excited about was Earth & Beyond.  As I have stated before in other posts, I originally was far from gung-ho about this game.  Then as more information was released by FC, I slowly found myself coming over to the side of fandom.  Now I'm catching myself up on the lore (reading the books), slowly...but hey, I'm trying.

Last week, my wife noticed that my subscriptions didn't renew when she was balancing the check book and asked me about it.  I happily told her that I had cancelled them for the upcoming Conan game.  She has now started calling me Arnold, which amuses me and fills me with shame all in one mighty blow.  I just can't wait to see the look on her face when I pay for the Collector's Edition pre-order.  I think I'll have to buy a helmet and some pads in the same shopping trip.

I think the amount I've hyped this game up for myself will lead to me being a lot more patient with this title than I have been with others.

    Currently Playing: Nothing...I'm developing.
    Looking Forward To:

I admit it, I too am excited about playing AoC and considering buying a new system to run it come March.

Of course I felt the same way about Pirates of the Burning Sea not too long ago :/

Meh, something good's gotta come out eventually! :D

I personally can't wait AoC seems like such a great game and for those that are talking about stealthing, its not that bad specially in this game because by stealthing Funcom doesnt refer to being invisible but to actually blending in with the environment like in real life which makes ganking so much harder than in other MMOs

I agree with OP.  I have put my heart on the line with so many MMOs recently (and even trying older ones) and I have not been impressed to say the least.  I have been following AoC since '05 and have been attempting to keep my ..... err... gittyness.... down to a minimum.  This will probably be my last run playing a MMO so i hope for the best lol

If warhammer and conan sucks then im gonna have to wait for Bioware mmo and i am sick of waiting.  So I realy hope conan is good.

  • DremacDremac Member Posts: 187

Well if AoC sucks I still kinda hold out hope for The Agency but after that...meh.

  • FireHeadFireHead Member Posts: 15

Concerning aggro you've seen is that most videos are shown where a higher lvl character is roaming a lower lvled zone and there for the aggro is non existent.

Equal level content actually has higher than average aggro range than what most are use to and makes it difficult from what I've heard.

  • DeaconXDeaconX Member UncommonPosts: 3,062

I'm holding out for the BioWare MMORPG as I hope it will just completely blow away ALL the competition, AoC included.  That FAILING however, I'll be in Hyboria for sure.  This IS the MMORPG to be excited about at present.

So for now, I keep faith and hold.  But if they announce something like Harry Potter Online or something, I'll have a sad laugh and go buy AoC.

    AoC > WAR (Graphic Looks)

AoC < WAR (Races & Class)

    AoC = WAR (Fun)

Well Looks like my computers not even going to come close to what AoC needs.

    Gess Its WAR time.
