If I'm not mistaken I think that the FC staff will take a month vacation during the month of july
is it really smart to release the game and just 40 days later have practically everyone leave for vacation?
maybe
but I think they should delay it just to be safe till august 15-30 (got to allow them to come back and get into the flow of things)
-- still wish they had just a 2 week vacation per year not 2 month.. but alas such is life

To be honest, my first though when they said may 20th was the same exact thing - the vacation in July.
So, if it gets delayed again, it seems to me that we'll be looking at another October release date again.
As far as release goes, I guess 40 days would be plenty of time to get the servers stabilized... plus they could just rotate staff for their vacations. I don't think there's a law stating they all have to take them the same exact days and shut down their entire company.
At this point, I'd be surprised to see the game before fall, as slow as Funcom is getting things finished.
Doesn't matter when it gets released really. All it matters is that we have choices of decent MMOs in the near future that will enchance and improve upon their predecessors. AoC, WAR, Chronicles of Spellborn, Aion and maybe others seem to have elements that will improve upon what we've seen in the past.
I hope all launch and are great to play so we get plenty to choose from. Only wish we had a sci-fi and wastelands MMO as well to consider in the mix of first class ones.
Yes it does. Maybe not for you but i for one wouldnt want to have to wait until 09 for this game for example.
And if it never gets released, what are you going to do? You're talking as if the release of this game is a life changing event.
I fear that all the people that complain about yet another delay would crucify the game if it was released in a poor state. I watched what the eager people did for Vanguard, on exactly these forums. Bitching and moaning about having the game earlier no matter it state, supposedly to support it after launch, only to become the first to jump ship when that happened.
Developers should release the game when they feel it's ready to be released ... or don't release it at all.
erm, no im not. Where have i said it will be a life changing event exactly? Just because i want a game to be realeased sooner rather than later doesnt mean its a life changing event for me. Youre the one who would be prepared to wait any amount of time for it to come out so if anything its a bigger thing for you than me.
If its not released at all then i wont be that bothered but im not prepared to wait any amount of time to play a game that will most likely be superceeded by that time anyway. If it doesnt come out in may then i cant imagine my interest holding on any longer so i will probably spend my money on another game or something else entirely. Whats the point of hyping a game that wont get released for a shitload of time?
Like ive said on another post, i can see why they delayed it but its still annoying. I would rather play it sooner and they fix it as we play than not play it at all for ages or at all ever. It doesnt matter how much they polish it, the backbone of a game will always be there and i can tell pretty quickly whether it will be a good game or not. Believe me, ive played enough betas of games to realise what will be good or not so it not being completley finished (no mmo ever is) wouldnt deter me from playing if it felt it had the potential to be a good game. However, as i said, i can see that this is not the case for most people who are the complete opposite to me which is where i see it makes sense for them to delay.
damn, just think if it delays till august
we're still in january..
damn

I agree, I've been waiting for this game for a LONG time. When I heard it was delayed until may 20th I was extremely disappointed, but also I hope that they'll get more things in that they had previously taken out, like formations hopefully.
I wouldn't be a bit surprized to see this game delayed till next fall yet. We all seen what happens to many games if their release is not good...they flop. AoC devs pobibly know if they don't deliver, the community will quickly turn on them. But also the more things get delayed ppl begin to loose interest.
yeah one of the very bad things about the situation is that many of the people joining the Age of Conan craze are people who joined World of Warcraft a year or two after its actual release date - that means they're use to a game that had a full year AFTER a release date to polish the game
so I don't believe they will be very understanding
and I think Funcom knows that they have to create a high functioning game in order to keep whatever fanbase may jump on board
-- of course most of us at the aoc forums will continue playing no matter what
but if we really want the game to be good we need those people who dont particularly care about the game, because money matters (even a company ruled by socialism.. lol.. money still matters)

Vacations get cancelled all the time in business. I am willing to bet that not all 300 emplyees are going to be taking a break. FC needs revenue, and most likely will stagger its employees vacation times to work with the launch.
I have never seen a company close its doors 100% for amonth long vacation, especially one that has a supposed launch date and another mmo already live to support.

Yeah but its the principle of being able to start the first few months off together as a team
even 80% of the staff would be a huge burden and prevent the company from being able to fix/patch anything needed to encourage newcomers and to continue (i am sure) to get good reviews

It starts to sound ridiculous, when people start worrying about other people's vacations.
Every beta tester saw this coming long time ago, It's nowhere near release ready. In fact, they need to delay it further IMO. Either that or Vanguard 2.0.
You have to give leet points to Funcom PR guys, the amount of bs they spout out is truly epic.
My guess is that they will release the game when they feel it's in complete state. Whether their interpretation of completeness matches ours is something that we'll need to judge for ourselves. And since the beta testers can't judge for me on the state of the game I find acceptable, their opinions hold little weight.
Now, if I was part of the beta test, I could judge for myself some key issues that don't change with bug fixing or polish, like gameplay for example, mood of the game etc.
Despite the naysayers in all related forums, I'm convinced that AoC, WAR, Spellborn and Aion will be of good enough quality to entice me to buy the boxed version and play them for at least a month so as to decide what fits best my play style.
The irony of your post is that the only one spouting BS is you, not FC.

Prove he is right then. Let me guess, your guildmate told you. Well guess what, I have 5 that will say different. Where does leave us?Hopefully it leaves us at the point where we can all be big boys and make up our own minds come May.

You do not need artists, animators, sound engineers, etc to launch a game. I have faith that FC as a company that has been in this industry longer than any of us, I would like to think they might know a thing or two more than us about launching a mmo.
Its not going to be May 19th, and suddenly they say "Oh we cant launch, everyones gone on vacation OR we launched but it was horrible and nothing worked because we sent everyone on vacation" .
Have faith that they know this business better than all of us.

true but if you stand outside the box pretending to be a pixeled character in a different world on a computer screen sounds pretty fuckin ridiculous too..

If you really feel that way, then why do you post doom and gloom so much...if you really are so cool to not care.
Btw, I think you are at the entirely wrong website if you feel that gamers playing / pretending a pixellated toon is so..."fuckin ridiculous" You do know what the RPG stands for right?
I'll ask this question again Sabradin and maybe you will answer it.
Hopw many mmo's or games have you (Sabradin) created and published? Im going to venture a guess and go with.....0
How many has FC made and published? Amen.
I rest my case that they know a thing or two more about this business than any of us.

That's what I'm thinking too. It's funny how people will come up with all kinds of worst scenarios, how things will go wrong according to their thoughts. When one subject is talked through from every possible angle, they come up with new scary "news" how things are falling a part.
Just chill out you all, after few pushback you'd think people slowly learn that it actually isn't a sign of armaggedon, just fixing the game and making it more pleasant for us to play. According to what they say, FC is just trying to avoid doing the "Vanguard" or "Tabula Rasa" again, which ever example you prefer the most. So as long as you don't work in FC, you don't know sh*t and the next nutcase creating another conspiracy thread is officially declared as:

Well so long, but being "riculous" was thrown at me, which I do not deny, and I felt good about taking others down with me (people who are ridiculous but don't acknolwedge it)
its all mind games my friend, take care
