Rewards

I've been playing WoW for some time and recently decided to look for something else.  I was wondering if there are any games out there that are similar, but with less grinding for rep/items/etc?  I played a couple of characters to the 60s and quickly lost interest when I saw all the busywork ahead of me.  Just to procure all of the recipes for my chosen profession was going to require months of grinding reputation with some faction that no longer had any other purpose.  That on top of BoP drops from dungeons no one ever ran.  I actually managed to get into a raid for MC which I had never been to, but that quickly fell apart after a couple bosses.  Are there any games that don't depend on re-running the same instances hundreds of times to get the items you want?

I'd classify myself as an "explorer" type of gamer, I want to go everywhere and see everything and then when I've done it all and collected it all I'll start over with a new character and new class.  I've played EQ and FFXI and I remember them fondly at first as I recall the different areas I'd seen and the quests I had experienced, but then I remember what a pain it was finding groups and the endless hours of killing the same mobs over and over.  Aside from that I usually don't give a crap about difficulty b/c it just hinders my exploration of the content and I don't define myself on what I've 'conquered' and how hard it was.

I just want the rewards to be worth the time or is that too much to ask from a multiplayer game?

Of course it's not too much.

But you define risk versus reward very differently than an Achiever player does, or a Killer, or a Socializer. No one system is going to make everyone happy at the same time.

I suppose you're right on that one.  For me, it's a 'game' so 'risk' doesn't even belong in the same sentence.  If I wanted risk I'd hit the stock market.

Edit:  Maybe I should just go back to reading. -_-

I wrote a quick article on how to find a new MMORPG on my website (below). Also I would check out the LFGame boards on this site. Both can be very helpful and may  give you some leads. The best thing to ask is what was it about WoW that you liked so much. based on that answer,  it will be easier to determine  which game to take a look at first.

    Good Luck

Wow, apologies to the moderators.  Didn't even see the LFGame section.  "If it was a snake..." and all that.
