That will be a UI option, I can almost guarantee it. If you do not like them, then you can turn them off. I like them just fine, myself, but would have to see what the alternatives were.
As for the video, the Dwarf was clearly a newb (not the player, the character itself) so had very few skills. The axe was pretty sweet - massive!
Nice Axe, wonder if axe throw (among other ranged abilities) are ammo based.
Prepare for incoming criticisms about the game combat looking dull and character not having enough skills or something silly along those lines.
You mean not every reply will be all roses and pink bunnies? *gasp*
I thought making a game for everyone was a bad thing
I never said it would be... I knew it wouldn't be, this forum has too many trolls and/or eternal pessimists like you. I know there are people who will make conclusive opinions of the game in general based on incomplete material and lackluster gameplay on part of the demo player.

It's not trolling to post about what you don't like about the video, it gives great feedback to the developers and if the general feeling is the combat looks weak then they'll have no choice but to improve on that. I feel at this moment in time that the mainstream will feel that the combat doesn't look very impressive and if it pays like it looks then they wont like it.
Just depends on if EA wants the mainstream and i have a funny feeling that they will....
I'm just hoping to see abit more movement and better spell effects cause atm they are too bright and colourful for warhammer.

Who cares if its mainstream or not. Mainstream doesn't mean it won't be a good game or that it won't be fun. EA's not interjected anything into Mythic's game, they've learned their lesson hopefully with critical failures in the past, plus Mythic has a good record unlike some companies they bought.
I'm just hoping to see abit more movement and better spell effects cause atm they are too bright and colourful for warhammer.
Whether you believe it or not..No game has ever had the high res / finished version of spell effects in their game during beta until almost the end. As for movement blame that on the person playing the character, these videos are being made by convention goers not WAR devs. I like the color scheme they're using...who wants dull n grey?!?!
Except Developers rarely come here looking for feedback. Thats what beta testers are for. Honestly Trolls are enmass on MMORPG.com anyone who deny's it lives in denial. A troll isn't someone who posts critisim like Pheace (he was only calling Pheace pessimisstic which he generally is ). Trolls are biased monkey's who come here posting flames or bait in order to get people into an uproar, often to promote their own personal views as FACT instead of what they are...Opinion. Like an above posters view of 'button mashing' which is completely retarded since RPG's have always had that control system any game that has skills & spells instead of just weapons *coughs FPS games* have buttons to mash there's just no way around it.
Come out of the closet...admit it....Trolls Exist...and they breed here..on MMORPG.com!

This game play looks identical to what I see in all other MMOs. Where is the innovation and new experience?
1.) Use ranged to pull
2.) Turn on auto attack
3.) Press occasional skill hot key
4.) Brain turns off & actions are repeated as needed
That's not to say that you can judge an entire game by one video, so whatever. For your sake, I hope that you WAR fans aren't met with another typical been-there-done-that snooze fest of a MMO.
The visuals appear to be very similar to what's in World of Warcraft as well. This is not necessarily a good thing or a bad thing, but I'm not seeing anything that's making this game stand out.
Perhaps this graphic style fits the setting and the over all artwork of Warhammer? I wouldn't know, I'm not a Warhammer fan.
I honestly can't understand how someone sees the same video that I just watched and exclaims, "COOL! I can't wait!" What is good about anything in that video? How does this video help their publicity?

I agree with everything this guy says below the 1,2,3,4 list (since no MMO ive played requires any real brain activity).
But I've been supporting/defending WAR for a while now, but most of the videos are looking very lackluster. And it doesn't make sense to me when people say "its not finished yet". Its got to be close enough to the real thing that we can make judgements on it, otherwise what would be the point of beta. I dont think after X number of years in developement they are going to make drastic changes in the next few months to make it an outstanding game.
------------------------------ "Everything is awesome. Fundamentally."
People tend to forget that a lot of these videos are:
recorded off a monitor with a video camera
of demo players using newb characters playing newb content
not necessarily new (older builds)
How cool would World of Warcraft look if a video of it was taken at a game show, off a monitor, and showed a brand new Paladin killing wolves and Kobolds with auto-attack?
Not very.
It is not going to be any different here, either. A bunch of newbs running around with two or three abilities killing newb monsters is not going to seem very interesting. I would wait until higher content is shown, personally.

Yes lets judge a game's Lusterness on a homemade gameplay video by people standing or sitting at a booth at a convention. Most of these people posting videos are either completely noobs at playing, concentrating on keeping the video steady, or just horsing around.
And its true if you've ever played a beta the high res models & textures, lighting, and even weather effects are often turned OFF in most games up until final stress testing before a game goes gold. Even WoW's higher resolutioned models, textures, lighting, & weather were all turned off until almost launch. Infact weather pretty much remained off for months after launch due to the lag it caused. EQ2? Yep alot of high res stuff was off during beta, Lord of the Rings? YEP all their high res'd models & textures & full lighting model were turned off until LAUNCH, infact no one not even open beta testers got to try out the high res client.
The point of beta is not to test the graphics its to test the gameplay mechanics, find bugs, and report them all along with making informed discussions on changes that players think should happen and why. Beta doesn't mean F2P time it means help the Dev's see what the players are looking for, what the players need that they left out, and whats broken or exploitable before a game goes live. If your a beta tester just to play the game then your not a Tester at all just a leech.
The videos we see are not beta tester videos they're GameDay convention runs where people get to just sit down and play for a few mins hardly enough time to get everything down and make an action packed video.

This is only the second in-game video I have seen from this game, the first one was an official one released a year or so ago.
It does look very very bland. Also look very WoWish, I know WoW took the art from Warhammer so that part is fine. But I also mean UI etc. looks very much like WoW, but that is also fine since they have a great UI. Anyway even if it looks bland it is very hard to say anything about it when not playing yourself, even looking bland it could be a totally different experience when actually playing yourself.
Also, this must have been a very low level character considering the very few skills she had, I bet combat gets better later on.
I wonder whether all of this is taking place underground, although in very big and well-lit caverns. That always seemed like an obvious thing to do, make the dwarf starting area underground rather than on the surface.

Abilities-based button mashing is for children and the infirm. Tsk.

If only it had real combat rather than the oldschool combat inherited from turn-based games..... because the graphics and animations look tight.

Yea I'm not saying anyone is trolling here.. I just think Pheace is an eternal pessimist
I could be wrong, it just seems that way to me.
The troll comment was in general. Not specifically this thread.
EA would definitely want the mainstream. Mythic I would say they do too, but they have also been great to their community imo.

Yeah, do that 1 to 3 steps in RvR conflict and see what happens to your brain...

That's what I'm thinking...
http://youtube.com/watch?v=VmOzOQwsk_Q
People who think the RvR atmosphere is your typical Tank and Spank MMO are... well they are easy targets.
Squigs! All those mutli-colored squigs!
I wonder whether all of this is taking place underground, although in very big and well-lit caverns. That always seemed like an obvious thing to do, make the dwarf starting area underground rather than on the surface.
That's not the beta, that movie is so old so it's gotta be the alpha because that movie was one of the first gameplay trailers
Maybe it is, maybe it isn't. The people playing them certainly didn't make the combat look enticing. Auto-attacking it up...
About the same for the ironbreaker and her 3 whole abilities at her disposal..
What is she? Rank 1? With her first standard ability and throw axe.
Regarding the ironbraker movie.
the quality was bad
the character was ugly
she was like ,rank1
the music was unfitting
she was too zoomed out (this matters a lot)
