Launch delayed due to SOE

"Our launch is delayed until at least 10 a.m. Pacific time due to an issue with SOE’s LaunchPad. Our friends at SOE are debugging an issue they discovered during final testing and they expect to have it resolved, tested, and live within the hour."

Posting to inform since the main site is being hammered. After a 5 year wait, another hour...

Is anyone really surprised by this, fls have deactivated forum access now too, so no one can complain. I saw this coming and made a tongue in cheek post about it on the games forums that got the fan boys all in a lather and the thread locked

A great way for soe to cement it's working relationship with fls, at least they are getting to work right at launch instead of waiting a year with this one

Ya thats typical SOE controling the information flow.

But you know they only set aside 15 hours to get the servers ready for launch so it only stands to reason they would find the problem 3.2 seconds before the game goes live because nobody even walked into the room where the servers were until then.

They announced they were bringing forums down right before launch since they released the time for launch days ago! So no I dont think it has to do with this SOE issue.

While I don't see this as a huge deal, I think stating it was an SOE product causing the delay is a HUGE P.R. blunder, given so many gamers knee-jerk reaction to all that is SOE.

Just once I would like a game company to say, you know what things are going so dam smooth that we are going to turn the servers on an hour EARLY.

The game company that does this will go down in history. At least we know it will never be SOE that does this :).

My old age might be interfering with my memory here, but think Mythic did this with Camelot. I know for a fact they did it often with patches... but I am 99% sure I was able log in an hour or more early for launch as well.

The games forums were deactivated last night at 2 am GMT when the games servers went off line but had been back up for quite some time, that’s the downtime referred to on the front page.

For what its worth I had a couple of forum pages open just prior to this as I was in the process of writing a post, when I tried to submit the post I received a message that forum access was disabled, this was within a minute or two after the planned launch time.

While you would expect a message on the front page to inform any new users about the delay there is no reason to take down the forums other than to prevent a deluge of negative comments.

*** EDIT oops entire post was set in bold****

Sometimes I think the pre-cu SWG players really believe the CEO of SOE is this guy...

Well as one poster put it he was prepared to pay a premium for SOE'& Flying Labs  Potbs not because it was ready but because he wants to be part of an unfinished niche game that  keeps the masses away!

    Logic fails me.

Actually, yes... logic does fail you.

or at least reading comprehension when it came to my post. The game is indeed ready and i never once hinted at anything but that. I'm willing to pay a premium because I am, and have been, having a ton of fun in this game. And it IS a niche game, sorry if that confuses you but it is what it is. It wasn't meant to appeal to a large mass of people in the same way that EVE isn't meant to appeal to a large mass of people... it's...well... niche. If they move towards a mass market appeal then they are selling out on the original vision of the game and therefore will fail as it's designed from the core to appeal to a niche market.

Put words in my mouth all you want, everyone here is capable of reading what I posted.

Yeah, a definate P.R. blunder... unless FLS have had a complete gut full of SOE already?

But anyway, what I found funny is that some of the Fanbois are in such a frenzy they are even mistakely attacking each other!

Those forums really are really bad for fanboi-ism and sadly it looks like they are getting worse - not better?

The Mods just post the same stuff about "forum rules and expectations" but that's about it.

Maybe they will mature with time?

Nothing says irony like spelling ideot wrong.
