Howdy, Stranger!

It looks like you're new here. If you want to get involved, click one of these buttons!

Few questions while I wait for download.

I'm hoping someone who has played the game is around to answer these questions for me.

Are you able to have characters from different realms?  For example could I have a Spanish character and a Pirate character on the same account?

Are you able to communicate with characters from different realms?  When I played DAoC you could even talk to someone from a different realms, they were just like mobs, is it the same here?

Is there any sort of tracking system for who you kill?  For example is you kill Squid McInky, is there a log somewhere that says you've killed Squid McInky?  Or can have his severed head or something?  Or is the only way to prove you've killed someone is the fact that you're now the proud owner of their ship.

Are you able to rename ships that you capture?

Are people allowed to have the same name in game?

Do Pirates have different classes like freetrader, etc?

Is your ship selection limited by what profession you choose?  If so do pirates have a limited selection at all?

That's all I can think of for now, thanks in advance for any answers.

I'm hoping someone who has played the game is around to answer these questions for me.

Are you able to have characters from different realms?  For example could I have a Spanish character and a Pirate character on the same account? Same account yes, same server no. If for example, like me, you go british on morgan, all your toons on morgan must be british. RvR ruleset so that you can't just decide "pirates are winning, lemme go use my pirate toon"

Are you able to communicate with characters from different realms?  When I played DAoC you could even talk to someone from a different realms, they were just like mobs, is it the same here? Not sure honestly, haven't tried that feature yet.

Is there any sort of tracking system for who you kill?  For example is you kill Squid McInky, is there a log somewhere that says you've killed Squid McInky?  Or can have his severed head or something?  Or is the only way to prove you've killed someone is the fact that you're now the proud owner of their ship. I don't think so, but i was mostly concentrating on the economy towards the end.

Are you able to rename ships that you capture? You can rename any ship, captured or produced

Are people allowed to have the same name in game? Every name is unique, you cannot have 2 say "jack Sparrows", but if your like me, i gave all my toons the same last name so people know who my toons are

Do Pirates have different classes like freetrader, etc? I played a brit, sorry :(

Is your ship selection limited by what profession you choose?  If so do pirates have a limited selection at all? Last i heard pirates can pillage and take any ship, whether they can use them or not, not sure. Again i was british from day one

That's all I can think of for now, thanks in advance for any answers.

Sorry i couldn't help more...having been a brit the whole time, i am not sure about the pirating systme

    Thanks for the help miagisan.

Are ships allowed to have the same name as another ship?

Yes, on the same account but not on the same server. It's one nation per server for each player.

Well, you can only even take their ship as a pirate. There's no other way currently to track objectives like that.
Are you able to rename ships that you capture?
Yes, but nobody else can see that name. Ship names are for your eyes only.
Are people allowed to have the same name in game?
I don;t think it can be exact first and last name,  although I am not sure which name the server tags as unique... I assume the last name is what must be unique (maybe the combo must be unique?)
Do Pirates have different classes like freetrader, etc?
No. You can take different skill tree paths, but they don;t have the classes that the other nations have (they are a nice mix of all of them really)
Is your ship selection limited by what profession you choose?  If so do pirates have a limited selection at all?
There are some proffession specific ships in the game and there are some that all proffessions can captain... I think that pirates can captain any but someone else needs to chime in on this one.
That's all I can think of for now, thanks in advance for any answers.
    /salute
Good luck with the game! i hope you enjoy it as much as I am! :)

Yes, but not on the same server. You may have a pirate on server X and a Spanish Privateer on server Y. You may, however, have a Spanish Privatter AND a Spanish freetrader on the same server.

Are you able to communicate with characters from different realms?  When I played DAoC you could even talk to someone from a different realms, they were just like mobs, is it the same here?

Yes, you may talk to other players of different nations.

Is there any sort of tracking system for who you kill?  For example is you kill Squid McInky, is there a log somewhere that says you've killed Squid McInky?  Or can have his severed head or something?  Or is the only way to prove you've killed someone is the fact that you're now the proud owner of their ship.

This system you refer to is not in place. You receive rewards for accomplishing missions, some in the forms of commendations which you can turn in for more rewards. However, your accomplishments cannot be seen by others yet in this respect.

Are you able to rename ships that you capture?

I believe so, cant be too sure I have not played a pirate long enough to capture a ship.

Are people allowed to have the same name in game?

    I dont think so.

Do Pirates have different classes like freetrader, etc?

No, pirate is a unique role and "nation".

Is your ship selection limited by what profession you choose?  If so do pirates have a limited selection at all?

All players can have up to four active ships per character.

That's all I can think of for now, thanks in advance for any answers.

Yes, because nobody else can ever see the name except for you.

Well, you can only even take their ship as a pirate. There's no other way currently to track objectives like that.

So you can't take someone elses ship if you belong to a nation?

Correct. You can only take control of a ship other than you own, if you are a pirate.

That seems to be a strong advantage for pirates.  I'd imagine ship are worth more than anything else in the game.  What is there that balances things out for the nations so people choose to be them?

Also,  are people able to surrender in a battle?

Do you get xp for PvP?

I think I read somewhere that you can change your career eg - you can switch from freetrader to privateer, is this true?

I'm guessing since battles are instanced, you can't join in someone else's PvP battle?

When a pirate takes control of a ship it's got a single durability, meaning it can be sunk once and it's gone for good. A captured ship is never as good as a mastercrafted playermade one. Pirates, although having an economy, don;t have nearly the economy of other nations (which have availability to freetraders and the likes)

Also,  are people able to surrender in a battle?

You can surrender in PvP. I've never done it but I think the opposing player can decline it or choose to ignore it maybe... can anyone else comment on this more in detail?

Do you get xp for PvP?

    Yes.

I still have my career respec that i got for free during a mission. I think it just returns to you your skill points. So you can choose new skills in under the same profession. I could be wrong here though since I never used it and was always happy with me choice of skills.

You also get swashbuckling repecs which allow you to actually change swashbuckling styles (dirty fighting, fencing, etc...)

I'm guessing since battles are instanced, you can't join in someone else's PvP battle?

There is a time limit that you can join in. Also, you can fire a flare in PvE battles that allows others to jump in with you :)

Can't Pirates captures mastercrafted ships?  And you're saying that if I'm french and my ship gets sunk, I'll still have that ship intact afterwards?   What's the death penalty then, just docked exp?

Pirates have to split their booty with their crew (this is represented by a -80% bounty for pirates) - national captains get the entire bounty for themselves. Pirates can not hold territory - anything taken reverts 72 hours later.

They can indeed capture mastercrafted ships from players, but the ship instantly becomes a "captured ship" and takes on the porperties of such (like a single durability).

If you get sunk you lose your looted cargo, any ship specific outfitting that you have added to it and if you have a single durability you also loose your ship. Every sinking you lose a durability. Some of the lower level ships have 4 or 5 or 6... most of the higher level ones have 2 or 3 (when new).

You always get a "fallback" ship ( a pretty weak ship) so you can never be totally without a ship... even if you get sunk in your only ship and lose it.
