Questions about the game.

neonakaneonaka Member UncommonPosts: 779

Ok, First I would like to apologize for post I made to all the LotR fans here back when the game was first released. With the lack of game options in the genre right now I thought I would give LotR a try. So I DLed it last night (7 gig for hi-res version lol).

Basically I just wanted to know if I chose correctly in my starting choices so far.

I do not like immature 1 3 3 7 talk so I chose the Landroval server as I heard it was good population with RP involved.

Second I chose a male elf hunter. I always like to shoot bows at things, I have always been partial to casters or ranged with emphasis on classes who can easily solo in the wild.

Did I choose correct as a elf hunter? Or have I already doomed myself to gimps r us?

Any help on these matters would be appreciated.

Thanks

In Lotro the first 15 lvls are hard because there arent that many noobs playing their first night in the game, there are mostly lvl 50 guys playing there alts. But as for deciding the elf male hunter thats completely up to you.I see lots of em.

I play on landroval and most of the newbies on it leave after the trial because they like to play with 8 year olds that dont know how to eqiup a pcket item either..LOL

But on subject the class you pick is up to you ,and the server your on is nice, i play on it.

    Hunter is a fine class.

    Nothing wrong with Elf Hunter.

I play Dwarf Hunter, which most consider weaker, and do fine.

Hunter is DPS only.  Does have a few proplems with multiple mobs (3 or more).

In my thinking, only Burglar and Lore Master are not suitable for starting players.

All the other classes are great Solo and in Groups.

    Guardian -  Main Tank

Champion - Secondary Tank & DPS

    Hunter - DPS

    Minstrel - Healing

Captain - Backup Healing and Buffs

    Landroval is a great server.

    Roleplay and Craft.

    Have fun!

I have played the game for a while and played as a male elf hunter however this was not for very long as my friend started playing the game and demanded to go a minstrel so i played as a guardian mainly up until the point at which i quit the game due to time restictions. However the time i played as a hunter were some of the best in the game as i found them very good at solo unless you got yourself cornered by multiple enimies.  All together i appluad the choice however i am slightly bias as i to enjoy the ranged classes over the close combat.

Hunter is a fun solo class.

Any class is soloable, just requires you to learn strategies to maximize effectiveness.

For instance, if you fight mobs about a level or two below you, you can often corpse them before they even get to you.

Hunter is a fun class, but it is so popular that people will tease you just for being a hunter (much like druids in EQ).

You might want to try loremaster if you like playing casters.

As already stated, any class can solo well, and the game is not really hard. So try a couple of classes and then stick with what you like most

I personally think hunters are fantastic.  Just stick with the class long enough to get all of your goodies like the runspeed buff, tracking, traps, and teleporting.  The ranged DPS thing is obvious, but you might not realize all the goodies coming down the pipe when you first start.

Race honestly matters so little that what you think is cool matters more than anything else.  Elves have a nice bow damage bonus, as well as the ability to earn stealth at higher levels.  I'd say both are pretty handy for a hunter.

Men get a 3000 morale heal at higher levels.  Hobbits get stealth and feign death.  Not sure what Dwarves get that a hunter would want.  But I've known some high level Dwarf hunters, and they do just fine.

I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.

Hunter is gameplay equivalent  WOW mage, with slightly better armor.

Newbies usually love the class because it kills fast, and thus levels fast.

From what you've said, I think you've made perfect choices. I echo that if you want to try something different than a hunter, go for LM. It's a pet class as well, which might or might not be your thing. I don't see any class as being severely gimped at any portion of the 1-50 levels. It's really a matter of what style you like to play, what you think is fun, cool, etc.
