Warning to all considering or playing this game

everyone tells you that this game is quest based and all that what they do not tell you is that this game is only quest based until around level 34 (I would know im level 64 on the Delphi sever right now). after level 34 its mostly grind you may get a couple quest per level but that will only get you about 30% and it keeps getting worse at level 64 I takes me with a ex scroll 1 hour to get 10% and that with using heiros to and around level 70 I have many friends at this level its goes down to about 5% per hout now there is an alturnative you can do aoe partys after level 59 and you will around 30% per hour around level 60 the thing is with an aoe party is that you go through 1 heirogram an hour which can get pretty pricey but if you can afford it what the heck I posted this just to inform you that anyone that says this game is quest based is lie I dont hate this game or anything I just feel misinformed and would like others to know

Sad, but so very true - that's why I decided to quit after a while. You see, there's something that bugs the hell out of me regarding these so-called "quest based MMO"s: they have a lot of quests for low levels, but after reaching a mid-high level, suddenly you're back to grinding, which seems even more annoying since you're not used to it since lvl 1 and you're under the impression that you've hit a wall and you can't level up anymore. Let me tell you something: if ppl play a quest based MMO is because they prolly hate grinding, so forcing them to grind after a certain level is weird and feels like a big cheat from the game's part - it's like saying "you know we said this is a quest based MMO? Guess what, we changed our mind, it's a grinding based game, but since you're a mid-high lvl player and you already wasted a lot of time in game we're sure you wouldn't quit, so suck it up"...
PW is the best example of a game with great chances to become a hit, and yet failing due to bad management decissions.
Wasn't Perfect World suppose to be a PVP MMORPG? The territorial war system should be the only thing that people look forward to when they play PW. Just like the people who play ShadowBane only play it for the PVP war system (which coincidentally is very similar to this)
And on what information are you basing your claim that the game is "failing"? Such a claim would hold water a bit better if you had a fact or 2 to go with it.
Also, I don't know who was saying PW is quest-based, thats false. It has quests, and they are worth decent exp, especially early on or if you are soloing. The game is much more complex than just that, though. Its the only game I've played that gives people a reason to group for exp later in the game, but also has enough quests so that early you don't have to. Its the only game that truly has balanced the group and solo content so that neither is completely obsolete. Is it really bad when a game makes you cooperate towards the later levels, when there have been more than just a few that forced you to do that from circle 1-10?
This is also the only game i've played that balanced PvP and PvE to a perfection without making seperate servers for each. There are currently only 2 servers in the Open English beta, otherwise it would be 1 shard. The community is light-years beyond EQ2 or WoW as far as maturity too. I remember the lvl 60-69 chat channel in EQ2, or the city Trade channels in WoW... I dare you to play PW for a month like me and find the same ignorance spewed on the world channel in PW as you could in those "premier" pay to play MMORPGs.
If your currently playing EQ2 or WoW, do yourself a favor and quit paying a monthly fee for something that could be had better for free. Unless of course your using your parents credit card, and/or need to fit in with your high-school friends(or some other vast majority). In that case keep playing your WoW or EQ2.

ShadowZero says some things that are true, but he leaving out SOOOOO much more about what is truly wrong with this game. Shall we examine?
First off, if you live in the US or Canada, you will have some of the WORST lag youve ever had in your life. You know why? The "English" server is located in MAYLAYSIA. So, given that, if you like PvP or doing the horse races (for prizes that mean something in the game) or generally just exping on mobs: you are gonna be a few seconds slower than all the Chinese players, half of Europe and some Americans and Canadians on proxies. Shadow didnt mention that. There is no, nor wil lthere be a US based server, so you will always be slower for pvp and pve and whatever.
This game is F2P; but its not. Its a HUGE asian grindfest cashshop game. Meaning, you dont pay a small monthly fee like WoW or EQ2 or whatever. How these asian grinder games get you is really sneaky. Shadow didnt tell you so I will:
First, you download the "free" game, make a character and get playing. Up until level 30 or so (the game has levels past 100+) you dont need much gear, but after that you need some good stuff. Why? Well, its a asiangrinder, so each mob you kill is only gonna give you maximum .02% of your exp level, no matter how high the mob is. If youre lv30 and kill a lv40 mob.. guess what? .02% exp. No incentive to kill higher even if you can. Kill stuff your level? .01 maybe once in awhile, .02. Thats the reality. You are gonna be here until they put a man on Mars, my friend. Your gear better start getting better around this level, which means you have to buy everything.. healthpots, manapots, weapons, all of it. Now unless you play a Werefox class (kind of a summoner) you are gonna be broke every level, cause after you spend all that money on pots.. (one pot a fight) you have to repair. Its not uncommon for you to blow almost all the money you made grinding on repairs, esp if youre a tank or WR. The only way around this is to, you guessed it, BUY from the cash shop.
If you dont buy from the cash shop, the Chinese players and European players will wipe your ass all over the map. So, you have to buy exp scrolls to get a decent exp rate (now .03% instead of .02 lmao!) and that costs. Oh, you wanna craft and make good items and not have to depend on luck? Buy a item for that. Oh, the pots arent healing you enough or you run out too fast (each mission youre out of pots) buy a health hierogrph. That little item now costs 260k IN game gold and you cannot buy that item from ANY npc. ONLY from the cash shop, so if you dont spend real dough, you have to hope someone else did, and theyll sell it to you for that ripoff rate. (to make 250k in this game is not easy).
There is no perfection of classes in this game. A MG will nuke anyone to death except another MG. So wheres that balance? If a MG sees you first, youre dead. There IS no balanced experience parties in this game, Shadow lies so bad. After level, heck, and no time is there any balanced partying except in a TW. Everything else exp wise is get a tank, some mages, buy a stack of hieros (you burn thru them in a day of exp) and mass nuke mobs. Over and Over until you reach level 110 or whatever. Thats your exp. Or, you could run around doing these dumbass DragonQuests, that take at mininum one hour of flying and teleporting around, (no fighting) then you get some exp. This game gives too little exp and then has one NPC that everyone sits at. This npc named Eunice gives you, each day,20% friggin percent of your level just for 5 mins of buying stones, tracking down 1 of 4 or so npcs, and talkig to them, Go back and get 20%. Wheres the fun in that? Shadow does this once a day, but he wont tell you.
The worst thing, is this game has little place for US players. Why? because all the Chinese own everything, or damn near all of it. There are Territorries that on Delphi, 5 of them are owned by ONE Chinese guild with a crapload of lv80/90 players. So what they do, capture a land, get money from it, then capture more. Its what the game is made for. And soon there will be two big Chinese guilds, then one. And if you dont speak Mandarin, your ass out.
Not to think this game is a total waste, its GREAT eyecandy. They have the best character creation screen you will ever see in ANY mmo hands down. Thats the truth. The visuals are good in game and it is "free" to play, if you play a Werefox.
But honestly, if you play this game past level 70 and youre from the US, you have some problems. Theres way more better content made (by the way, this game is called the Chinese WoW.. whats that tell you about the jealousy/emulation of WoW?)
So to sum up, lag. Lots of it. Chinese players who are gods because they spend their mommies credit cards up to get exp scrolls, dolls for pking (so they dont lose items), hieros, extremely fast mounts (so they win all the races combined with the lag delay youll get), Chinese spam over the channels (hey GM! you no fix this game.. I no cheat,,, i earn that 100 million dollar! you suck GM).
But hey, like Shadow said. its free.

The other problem that I see is basically the community is not that friendly. I don't know if it's because of all the different countries and it's a language barrier problem or if it's due to the pvp/pk installed in the game or what. But I have noticed there is little to no conversation between players. The only talk on world chat is usually smack talk between 2 of the bigger pvp guilds and that's it. No one says hello to each other when in towns etc. Where are the friendly community people?? I haven't found any that's for sure.
Even when someone groups with you they don't speak. I have been grouped dozens of times and when I say hello and ask what the person is killing 9 times out of 10 they dont' answer. I used to just stayed grouped but now if they don't answer I just leave the group again, I find it rude to be asked to group by a system message and then the person doesn't even have the decency to say hello or anything.
I really was hoping that Perfect World would be just that. I love the character creation, I love the classes, the graphic world is beautiful but the rest is empty. There's no community really, the questing ends and special items are needed from the cash shop. It's far from Perfect.
I'm starting to wonder if I will ever find a good gaming community again in a mmo. So far it's been years since I have seen one, and that was old SWG days.

Yes Please do, I'd love to know of some others that are free and as pretty graphically as this one. Also that has close to the same character customization. That's what hooked me on PW, I don't like looking like every other person, and in this game, I don't have to. Anyone know of an alternative for us????????
Nothing really close to this game in terms of character creation. Its the one thing this game does well and I'd give it a 9-10/10. The Chinese players have even resorted to "altering" their characters now even further by changing code somehow so their tanks look fatter (fat pandas and tigers) and they also are making skinny characters (skinny archers).
The developers of the game has seen them doing thisa lot now and said, although it IS a breach of their EULA, they really dont care about it now because they are fixing other more important stuff in the game, like lag. Sure.
I think thats a total cop out because, the people who have hacked their characters are all VERY high level Chinese players who run the top guilds on the servers, or friends of them. If PW kicked the top real money spenders (from Asia) there would be a revolt over there. If they kicked the top money spenders from the US, no one would care. So, they said that these guys MIGHT one day log in and find their character banned. I SERIOUSLY doubt that they willing to lose a bunch of high paying Chinese players; especially those that leveled their characters past level 80 and 90.
Although, there are two F2P games that arent as bad as this right now you CAN play. (bad meaning in terms of grind/money spending) Archlord is one, and Shaiya is the other. Shaiya is a Lineage 2 clone, AL is a grind, but not as bad as PW. You wont have to spend half the money in a cash shop to keep playing for free. They dont come close to PW graphically (about 7/10 maybe) but, they arent as bad a grind and dont require you to spend any real money to play.
After lev60+ in PW, you WILL be spending huge amounts of game gold to keep your character running. The only way to do this and compete in the Territory Wars (which is the games main focus) is to spend real cash to equip your character, especially for health and mana. So even though its a "free" game to play, after 60, youll probably be spending average of $20 US to keep up with the other guilds in battle. But the hook of all asian grinders is, youll probably spend even MORE than that statistically, its that way. Its why all the azngrinders are pretty much F2P with cashshop items selling things you NEED to level, not optional.

I thought it was logical to think PW is (supposedly) quest based, since even the official presentation states the grind for xp is limited and the only alternative for a good ammount of xp are the quests...but just in case: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perfect_World The way I see it, the game has 2 main directions: quests and PvP (with everything it involves). I don't see what else is making the game so complex, since the crafting system is for the moment worthless (the resources are too scarse and the respawn rate is ridiculously low; it takes a lot of time and effort to raise your abilities and sadly the system is not synchronized with the grinding pace).
Having a lot of PvP and party options does not make the game complex; it just gives you more ways to hack other players.
The game offers indeed in depth customization and it's very eye candy. But if you're interested in having a good view over the field then you'll play with max zoom out, which means most of those custom character details won't matter anyway.
I don't play WOW or EQ2 nor do I ever intend to. Other than that, your superiority comments are amuzing, but honestly kind of lame. I'm not a kid leeching my folks credit cards, but that's already too much effort wasted on aswering such silly remarks.
Thanks for the reply PopinJay. I logged on PW today and played with my werefox for awhile but after all I've read the past day or so I'm basically over the game. I'm also on the delphi server so I know exactly who you are speaking of in terms of the territories owned etc.
As for the 2 free games you mentioned Archlord is too much into PVP for me, I'm more of a PVE player. I did actually download Shayia *sp* but I didn't like the fact that I couldn't try each side out you have to pick dark/evil or light/good not to mention the character customization is basically slim to none. I think they give you 4 choices on hair and face, boring. I guess female players care about that more then the males, I know I do. I might try downloading it agian and giving it a shot, but again it seems it's pvp based more then anything else, since it's basically one side against the other.
Oh well, I guess I'm just disappointed about PW, I had hoped that it would be the answer for me regarding gaming. But I see now that it's not. But many others do find the game fun so I can't really badmouth it. I am just not the type to spend tons of cash just to brag about who I owned etc, that's a guy thing all the way :P
ok I feel like this post has taken a wrong turn it was not made to bad mouth perfect world senice posting I am now a level 70 mage and I still like the game as for what some of you have said I must say that it is false First I am on the Delphi sever also and have no idea what you are talking about with asians controling all the lands I am in the guild Espada and have been senice week 1 we currently own 5 territory and we in no way are a asian guild while we do have asian players we mostly have canadians and Americans next would proabably be europeans and then finally asians I really like this guild and that is also where all of my friends are. Now about the community I have no idea what you mean when you say it has a horrible community everyone I have ever partied with has either said hi to me or said hi back the guilds are amazing and I know most of the high levels in the entire game which means its a pretty close kit community which you dont find very often in mmorpg (free ones at that) now when It comes to $ yes I have used cash shop but no I have not spent 100$s of dollars on it in total i have spend 19$! yes and I have been playing for almost 2 months now I say that it is reasonable yes I always use heiros but I pay for them with in game money and you can buy cash shop currency with in game money so I havnt had a problem with it so far I plan I contining playing this game and I think it is heading for good thing If you have any other problems I would love to hear them to see if its something that you just may not understand or I can help you through

OK, since you are on Delphi..
The two biggest asian guilds just merged. Say that isnt true? Those guys own Espada, Memoire and anyone else. Matter of fact, ive heard Espada ppl say "dont piss them off, theyll eat us alive" (yeah, I was in Espada before). Now that those two guilds merged, just how long do you think itll be before they take your land? Not long. You guys only got lands because some of the high level Chinese players recently got banned, oh wait, "vacationed" for a week for exploiting the game. They couldnt get on with their alts to bid. They kept all their exp too. If those guys werent banned for a week, you couldnt have outbid them for lands because they have more money in this game than anyone, they hack and they play all the time. Youd have ONE land; the one they let you have.
Ok, you can say you spent 19 dollars.. but unless someone was GIVING you free hieros, how did you get money to pay for them as a level70 mage? Mages dont do traditional party where they sit back and nuke in this game. Every mage level up as AoE party, and you know what? Mages burn thru a 250k hiero in an hour. Then figure in armor repair costs.. and exp scroll and yeah, HP hiero too.
Then figure if you make.. 10-15% exp in one hour, youre doing great. No way your NOT using a couple hieros a day just to level up. And if you say youre farming, you burn hieros for that too. Mage dont make enough mana to just nuke, nuke, nuke. So again, unless someone is giving you hieros..(probably someone in your guild that uses real money, buy them, and give you a "discount") your lying about amount of money you spend.
And then at lev 70,you arent anywhere near max level. You have over 40 or more levels left. And youre not doing one level a day. Only chinese can do one level a day in that game and thats pushing it.
So the things said about PW are true. Its a money grabbing game, which eventually will be controlled by all the Asian players as they like this model (cashshop) and love to grind forever.
If you want to do a Territory War (which is the main endgame in Perfect World) they set ALL the times for the local players.. meaning, if you have a US guild you got to wake up 6am or 4am to fight in the battle. Who's gonna do that? All the times set for the asian players so they do it in the evening. And they do NOT rotate the times to make it fair. So even if you got those lands this week, you wont be holding them for long, unless you start setting some alarm clocks.

Hmm, I guess I just haven't been very lucky with this. I am asked to party quite alot lately and when I accept the automated party request I will then say Hi in the party chat and I get no response. When I ask what that person is killing they don't answer that either. I thought maybe they didn't know how to use party chat so I would say hello again in normal chat or even a whisper and still no response. That's happened six times out of 8 that I have been asked to party with someone. That's pretty bad if you ask me. Better yet go stand in Dragon City and see how many players say hello to each other out loud.....I've never seen ANYONE say hello to another player yet. Oh I have seen plenty of dueling going on but that's it. As for world chat I see plenty of that and it's mainly smack talk between the guilds, and Espada is one of them that is always talking on world chat. As an older female player the chat that goes on in world chat for the most part reminds me of school yard bullies. "So and so got his butt handed to him, haha!!". Then the other person or guild will reply...wow great community..lol....NOT!
Ok where the hell do you come off telling me how I play no NO ONE HAS GIVEN ME FREE HEIROS!!! yes mages do go through about 200k mp heiro an hour in a good aoe party but I dont aoe party 24/7 it is not the only way to level in this game. No one in Espada is scared of Immortals if that is the guild you are talking about they are NUTRAL WITH US! and I party with them quite often also they are on the other side of the map so how they hell could they take our lands if they wanted to? Yes the wars are at like 7am but we knew that going into getting territories and yes I do set my alarm =D and saying that 70 is no where close to max level is dumb the max level in this game is 105 but going from level 90-105 takes 6 months so most people stop after level 90 and you dont miss out on much because there are no more skill to get or dungoens past that point so really I am only about 20 levels from max skills and dungoens which is good enough for me I dont ever plan on getting to level 105

Perfect World is yet another Asian grinder and if that's your favorite play style, go for it. Most folks in the west won't care that much for it though.

Ok, all this thread tells me is I better start playing hardcore again or the azn invzn is gonna consume all of perfect world. I'll get right on that.

70 is quite far from max level. Why? It takes much longer than 6 months to get that far. But most people will die from boredom before they ever reach that. Look around in that game, The only ones who are even thinking of going past 90+ are the azns with no life overseas. Thats because it takes too much time (and real money) to get there. Grinding is not the only way to level, but its the only worthwhile way.
Heres your leveling day in PW. Log on go see Eunice or Rosalind. This npc gives you more exp for doing nothing than you can earn in the real game in the same time. What do you do? Spend money on items to get exp.. no fighting, no puzzle. Just spend money.
Then you go do some other type of quest (World quest or something) after a certain level (70ish) you have to PAY money to get a quest done, lol. Paying for quests. They do this incase you actually avoided the cash shop somehow, so they make sure they get your money someway. And the exp you get doesnt really help you get out of the level.
Then you buy some trumpets, and spam all day hoping, looking praying someone has a fb19 (dungeon you need keys for) so you can join, go in and get some exp. In a level 19 zone and youre level 70. Thats so lame. Or same with fb29. Level 29 zone high levels fight to get so they can get a little exp because it sucks what they have left at 70+.
Or you run around looking for Dragon quest items to get exp, which is nothing but teleporting around, give a npc items you buy from other people at stalls, and hope it doesnt take too long to finish for some exp. It does.
Ok, lets recap. You have to pay for pots. You have to pay for armor/weapons and repairs. You have to pay for teleports (or take a slow ass run or ride), You have to pay for quests. You have to pay for experience scrolls to make any decent rate. You have to pay for hieros, and if you dont have hieros, you will be kicked out of groups. You have to pay for spells (and once you get past 70+, youre spells gonna start costing millions a level.
So basically, this game.. You have to PAY for everything. Add in that after 70, its pure grind, no matter how many other "ways" to level their are, grind is the only real way to do something.
Now to anyone who didnt play this game, getting to level 70 can be done pretty quickly (3 months or so) its after that this game starts to suck and you realize your being bled dry.
Just dont ask any PW fanboi about this, they will deny it even though they themselves complain about the exp rate and grind. You see lots of people quitting this game at 70ish.

Pretty much how typical F2P item mall based game are setup.
Sadly he's pretty much right. I got past that level 30 hump and suddenly the quests really began to thin out. I mean the game has variety but around that level the sweet spot ends and you start repeating quests and better equipment and socializing becomes your new main drive in Perfect World. If you don't have a guild by then, better start hunting because the game has alot more staying power when you do, as goes for any online game.
But I don't mean to discourage people from this game. Maybe if we get enough people playing, quitting and then bitching they'll fix it, haha. But personally I've never payed real money for anything in the game, and my gold is usually overflowing, albeit I haven't been able to afford a mount yet. It all just gives me strong flashbacks of what happened to Maplestory once the cash shop finally (FINALLY) opened up. People everywhere dumping money into pretend merchandise so they'll look cooler to the high levels and guild masters above them who aren't silly 13 year olds that waste thier money on crap. And then you just get the occasional no-life person decked out in items, but every MMO's got a few bad grapes like that. The game has enough customization for me without the cash shop.

Anyway, I thought I should add my two cents to this argument.
First off I am crazy for 3D graphics and Character creation. I 3D model in my spare time. So, being able to create a character like the way u can in this game and then walk around in such a beautiful game is already enough for me.
But more to the point. They spent almost $4 million on this game and you think you can get to the end of the game for free? Good luck.
If I was a games company I would create free games too and then find a way to make a profit. This way you get a flood of potential customers. However, I would continue giving people lots of quest and storyline but give them less and less XP for it as they advance. This way, people will look forward to the end and possibly pay me for it.
I am nowhere close to the levels you guys are on but I tend to jump from one free MMO to another. PW is not perfect but it has the potential. If they don’t listen to what western customers want then they will loose out in the west. There are lots of other MMOG companies that want to get into the West. One of them might copy all the benefits of PW and add what western people want. But for now I am amazed with what they have created. I think China will overtake Korea and lead the Asian MMO market if they continue like this.
And one other thing, I am dyslexic and yes I typed this up in Word before pasting it here. So don’t come down on me too hard if you find mistakes.
