FLS forum lockout for Nonpayers

I think you guys are aware of the forum lock out over at POTBS. I don't understand their thinking on this one. People considering on getting this title cannot post over there to get info on the game. the burden falls on 3rd party forums such as this one to help educate the consumer . And with the tons of SOE haters out there, if left in their hands they will try to turn away as many as they can. This is where my point is. Are they crazy? this so called great idea is and will cost them sales. I am a huge fan of POTBS . First was radical changes to the game, than was SOE, now it locking out a community that been around for 4 years. people who have a great knowledge of this game.  just having SOE in the title is keeping players away. So how long do you think it will take before this game in in the bargain bin at Walmart.

I am paying and playing.   Will it be enough to keep me from most of my time in WoW?  Nope, but it is a fun game and a nice change from Drwaves and Elves.

Great way to keep your forums under control.

As far as potential buyers, I believe if someone is interested enough in the game they will no problems finding info regarding the game splattered across the net. Google is everyones friend.

The only people losing anything from this are the future players / forum users waiting for their order, and the people who enter the forums to troll post / start heated arguements without reason.

EDIT : P.S. : I do not use the forums on the PoTBS site. Also your poll is useless.

Well, it's like that on every game when SOE does the publishing. Everquest forums aren't accessible if you don't play, neither are EQ2 and VG forums iirc. It's their policy I guess. So the forums will be really biased in favor of the game after a while.

On the surface that seems fine, but with EQ, people are afraid to say something that needs attention because the first comment you will get is "can I have your stuff", "go back to WoW" etc stuff, lol.

Going with SOE is probably gonna cost them players, I won't play it cause of that alone, but were there any other publishers ready to publish this game? I know NCsoft wouldn't touch this game, blizzard only produces in house games and funcom has their own line up.

It's not so much because of SWG that people avoid SOE I think. It's just that those players and EQ players know the company better and how they operate. SOE seems to buy up or produce dying or struggling games. Vanguard-Gods of Heroes-MxO and now POTBS which is a 'small budget' game in MMO terms. You can't blame them if they use that knowledge to avoid SOE games, that's how I reason.

I'm not sure what you are talking about. I haven't paid for the game and I can still post on their forums.

Though I'd expect them to lock out non subscribers at some point, at least partially.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I did hear about the Aussies getting the shaft on this one.  And again lack of support from FLS about when is its going to be released over there. I would imagine SOE will not have a hand in that, So you will be getting the better end of that deal. For our Eastern Euro friends Akella will be doing the launch over there.  Again thx for the warm welcome

It almost sounds as you believe that it is ONLY SOE that does that. Wait, you are?

I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention.

Nope, not only SOE does, but they do charge the full 15$ for often low budget or 'failed' games, or older games that should be free by now.

Other companies often are F2P (with the exception of the item mall ones), or cost like 9$ a month.

I cannot phantom how a game like PoTBS that's low budget, should cost the same amount of money / month compared to big budget releases like WoW and Lineage.

Its been my experience in the past (i.e. WOW/EVE forums) that the paying customers can handle flaming the forums quite fine, I can see why they don't want non-subscribers adding to the fire.

Not for me anymore since I can not post . But she has been deleting posts that have a negative spin towards issues with the game.  For me I really could give a crap about the forum and the game. my problem starts from the user content Shipwrights forum. I had active projects going on and a ship thats going to be in R2 of potbs. So I was a active contrubuter and they removed my forum privs. I been riding them to atleast give the shipwrights  the right to post in that board. I pleaded and begged with nothing to show. I can't even get in contact with the devs to tell them to pull my model out of the R2 release. I was going to wrap up the 2 other projects than pick up the game and play. but I am not going to play because I am doing modeling for the game. Its stupid to use your key to just to be able to post on their forum. the clock ticks no matter if you play or not. the Shipwright are doing them a favor and thats how they treated us. So screw them, screw the game and screw SOE.  Danicia just deletes these posts and does not pass on the info to the devs. So nothing is being done about it. And she has no clue who any of us are so she thinks we are trolling. Because the shipwright forum is not a part of her patrol. and she is not talking to Rev or Rusty about any of it. so they are clueless to these issues. so it just become a endless cycle of BS.
