hello
im new to the community here, but ive had people refer me to this site regarding the general MMO universe, and i wanted to ask you folks for some notes on a new game to pick up
ive played the following MMO's (in no particular order)
WoW (+BC)(closed invite beta to 3Q 2007)
UO (closed beta to EQ1 release)
EQ1 (started beta, cant remember the length but i had 2 top level characters)
EVE (closed beta till about they dropped the new playable ship into the game(leviathin class?))
a few notable MUDS that i care not to mention
thats just a preference refrence list, theres a lot more, including a couple hundred online non-mmo's that are basically diablo builds, ive been at this a while, im just too tired to write a novel
regardless, im thinking about picking EVE back up. overall its pretty(never a bad thing), i accually loved the crafting system, solo stuff is sufficient, guild(corps) play and interaction is nice. i havent touched the thing in years, but the new stuff i'm seeing around is'nt looking too bad. is walking into an mmo years after its release, especially EVE, just going to suck starting at day one again? and if so/not why?
i'm without an mmo right now and i'm needing something pretty badly.
basically im asking if EVE is worth picking up, or should i suck it up for the 2008 releases? i looked pretty hardcore into tabla rasa and im still tosssing that idea around.
i have a really nice computer (i use it for work too, editing, rendering, top shelf specs across the board), so tahts not really an issue
im looking for a game that doesnt feel like you "cap out" not too long after the last "level", like WoW does, i know EVE fits this nicely, but i also looked into TR because after the top end theres still world events to deal with that dont look to me like raid grinding forever...
im not super picky about PvP, tho i like it in the game, i do like massive crafting systems, but not ones that are a drastically required part of the game mechanics, i like "group runs" but i wanna just be able to run around too.
so id like some notes, regarding EVE, TR, or anything else that sounds like i might be into it
thanks in advance,
Thanix

Did you try out the Eve Trial again? 14 days should be enough to answer the question if it is the game to start (again).
For starting late..most people in Eve started late. So what? I myself started about 1 1/2 years ago, most of my mates started after me, some before. Does not really matter to be honest. You have a bit more respect for people who were there since beta, but that won't stop you from shooting him anyways. It's not like you were useless just because you are new. My corp has recuited many newbies right after their trial and they are now regular members of our fleets..
I don't think TR will do it for you - I think you are looking for more depth and meaning in a game.
You can be somewhat effective in EVE within a few weeks if you build your character right and have the support of a guild. But, I found space can be boring at times. You will be loading up on skills and mining/missions for quite a while.
If you are looking for fun, a challenge and a level playing field (new server, fresh start) you may want to look at Shadowbane. New servers and world wipes are soon. Shadowbane is free to download and free to play.
