It's a game. Period.
Losing an ingame item has absolutely ZERO impact on you in real life, unless you're farming items/adena to sell online.
If you're getting that worked up over a game, then you should take a step back, take a deep breath, and seriously rethink things, because one day, NCsoft will pull the plug on the servers, and ALL your fancy items will go *poof*. I don't think that's really worth stressing over in light of everything else going on in the world around you.

In the end this game is all about farming and grinding....NOT pvp. In fact, far far fewer people actually pvp in this game than most others I've played. (I think even FFXI has more pvp than L2 lol.) It takes forever to get items in this game and your char is only as good as your armor/weapons. If you pvp, you will loose items which means more farming. If you go red, even if backed by your guild, you will die at some point and loose gear you have to farm back. 99% of this game is farming 1% pvp (which isnt very good anyway). The combat system is aweful. You have like 2-3 main attacks you can push. Who wins in pvp all comes down to your items and lvl. Not to mention the game doesn't have that much content. Castle seiges are a joke. And I'm speaking as someone who "had" a lvl 41 dwarf, among other chars, who can supposedly get items much easier than other people. In the end, pvp in L2 is just a marketing gimick to force you to grind more.

Well.. no, it's just that like many other games, PVP is the END game in L2. (And it's super hard to get to that end.) Large clans with high lvl members have clan wars regularly and participate in sieges from what I've seen.
But yes, I do agree that they didn't design the game with individual PVP pleasure in mind. The fun is more in the politics of it, I think... which some enjoy immensely but most others find it silly.
I grant you I didn't play to max lvl, but when I played I was certainly higher lvl than the vast majority of people on more than one char. You may be right though, once everyone maxes out xp and gets all their items, pvp might actually be fun. The problem is like you say, it takes soooooooooooo long and is so hard to max your lvl....and so mind numbingly boring while you do it, that it's just not worth it. In a year from now, when everyone is high lvl, I really dont see the pvp in this game being that much more fun. The fact is the combat system still sucks....hard......and there is not that much content to make the game outside of guild politics entertaining for long.
Even at the "end game" you still loose 10% of your xp and your uber gear when you pvp, and at that lvl it will take insanely long to make it up. Every time you die in pvp thats 10% xp at max lvl you have to earn again to avoid deleveling. The pvp rules are retarded too....like you are fighting someone and all they have to do is run for 20 seconds and they're white again. If you kill them you go red. Guild wars and castle raids you still loose xp (although I think reduced a little).
It's just stupid because most of the systems in the game deter people from participating in pvp....even at end game. If I were to actually spend the time to max out my lvl, it would be a huge pain in the ass to have to spend all week grinding and farming cash just so I could pvp a little on the weekend or something.
Even shadowbane is better than L2. It has guild politics, you can build your own cities. The combat system/characters actually have some choices and variety. No silly rules on pvping. It still has the problem of forcing you to farm in order to be able to pvp (to support your city/repair equipment etc).
I played L2 a lot. I really wanted it to be good....but unfortunately right now it just isnt. And with the rule system they have now it certainly isn't a very good pvp game either.
To be honest I've never played Shadowbane or UO to really know what other PVP games are like but you're probably right. For a PVP game, PVP isn't so encouraged in L2. (Might have something to do with Korean laws actually.)
I think though that you don't lose XP in a clan war (if you die to a enemy clan member that is)? And in castle siege the XP penalty is greatly reduced.
Often I sit and wonder why I still play this damn game and it all comes down to ego issues. The hierarchy in this game is incredibly motivating. The difference between a high lvl player and a low level player, between a big-clan member and a small-clan member, between a rich char and a poor char.. these differences have such a huge effect in every conflicting situation.. many hate this aspect of the game but for me this is what motivates me to level. I can't wait to be high level enough to be able to step into a PVP arena and not be bullied out. Can't wait to be powerful enough to not have to be pushed around by groups of large clan members. .Can't wait to get revenge on higher lvl players that have pissed me off at some point or another! hmm i may have issues lol.. need a psychiatrist.
The grind to get to that plateau of uberness though is indeed painful. I have to do all sorts of things to keep myself entertained through the labour. I don't have a TV in my room so it's that much harder. The otherday I downloaded a bunch of audio books because listening to music while playing wasn't cutting it for me anymore. hehah.. so sad.

this game is mostly grind, and item customization becomes more obvious in higher levels, with chronicle two coming it will be even better, stat customization, cooler graphics, mini games. IMO, Chronicle 2 is what the game should of been at retail/open beta.
Koreans are massocistic, which is obvious in the grind past level 50.
i played this game for about 3 monthes and 1 things for sure if u get pked die when afk waitin for mana/health to regen u die or r pvpin and u go red(pk) and dropp ur favorite item i know that u really can hate this game.
1 more thing i hate bout it u dont get many spells untill ur higher lvl and some ppl just cant get to 20 if u cant play that long i mean im only 21.
ps. reminds me 40% or more (depending on what u do all time u play) ur always sitting makes me mad lol at least in wow u can get water and food (water=mana)(health=food)which dont take that long any ways and there affordable.

Yea, I am not fond of people who do things like that (I am talking about the first post here just so you know). But then, they are the ones that make the game fun, because it then gives you something to do. I don't PK, but I love to kill PKers. When you are in PvP and your heart starts beating real fast, that is fun. That is why you spent all those hours leveling your guy up.
Also, one more thing to say. This game may not be the best game out, but only one chronicle has come out so far. There are still 11 more to come. Go watch the in game play video for chronicle two, it is awesome. This game is just starting to pick up, it takes time for games to start getting really good. So it may not be that great now, but after a couple more chronicles, it is gonna rock.

This game will hold any true MMO'ers attention. You know the game is good when you get 3 hours of sleep a night and your trying to get back on to play this. The quests are great, plenty of content, the pvp system is awesome (although their adding some stuff into it).
Also from what I have read Blizzard will also be trying very hard not to let what happen to D2 happen to WoW. So I have trust in this company. This game will be declared the greatest MMO ever.
By the way it is the best game ever. I played on the stress test and I have never had so much fun with a game.
I remember the first time I played Lineage 2....I loved it. My point is, you really cannot tell by a stress test. I beta WoW phase one for a couple months. I didn't like it. DOesnt mean it'll suck..it's just not for me.
But what I'm saying is: you can't judge a mmorpg based on a few days of game play. It usually takes 3 to 4 weeks before the excitement dies down and reality kicks in

Well I totally disagree with you. I didn't judge it on a few days, few meaning 2-5. 9 Days is enough just to let you know. The fact that me and 2 other friends of mine talk about the game constantly, look up info, and watch pvp movies 24/7, I think it means something.
I know for a fact this is the greatest pvp/mmo/rpg/whatever game ever. I really don't even know the number of mmo's I've tried and in the first 20 minutes I exited and uninstalled.
This is only the 1st game this year I have left on my computer. So yes I know that I will be getting max level with more then 1 character in this game. First of all this was only the beta version, I'm very excited to see what it will look like when it goes gold.
