i tihnk that the blizzard web site, in regard to this also, said that the actual system requirments will be lower than that.

personaly i think this is very true, blizzard has been known for makeing kick ass games that can run on a junker of a computer.  take starcraft for example, i can rin that on a really old pentium 133 without breaking a sweat.  blizzard has a good history for this kind of thing.  give them a chance, and a little more time, and you will have a really sweet game!

They are in fact lower.  I have played WoW on a p3 600 and it ran perfectly smooth most of the time.  It was definitely playable.  Most graphic settings were low but some were medium.

Oh heck im sure you can drop the game to 640*480 and set everything to absolute minimum and run the game on any ghetto system, but whats the point? Those requirements I posted are what you need to get a decent graphical enjoyment out of the game.

I'm going to be buying a new Powerbook soon so it's nice to see that I will be well over the required specs.

This is the one thing right that all mmo's did wrong(that recently released)

Release an MMO with requirements over 1ghz requirements (in other words, memor leakers)

50% of MMO players do not have a 1+ghz computer.

Liked: Shadowbane, Neocron, Ultima Online(Before UO:R)
    Not Sure about: DAoC
Disliked: AC1, Everquest 1, Everquest 2, World of Garbage(Warcraft), Eve Online, Jumpgate, AC2, Anarchy Online, Sims Online, Saga of Ryzom, Lineage II, City of Heroes, FFXI, Planetside, UO:R(and after)

When was the last time your purchased a new computer? Both my computers have 1.5GHz. One of which has been temporarily out of service due to some virus or something. But still, I have had a 1.5GHz computer for the longest time. Since 98, I beleive.

But maybe your computer is older. I am not saying it sucks, just maybe you need to buy a new one to catch up to the times. Or just buy a GHz upgrade. But what I am trying to get at is that most of all todays newer computers have over 1.5GHz.

Not sure if this helps you any, this is my msinfo.txt file from my PC and I'm currently in the WoW beta.  I average FPS 24 in any zone except Stormwind (the human home town and center of most trade/auctions (where I'm FPS 2)).

    Item Value
OS Name Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
    Version 5.0.2195 Service Pack 4 Build 2195
    OS Manufacturer Microsoft Corporation
    System Name SHONJIR
    System Manufacturer ECS
    System Model K7S5A
    System Type X86-based PC
    Processor x86 Family 6 Model 4 Stepping 2 AuthenticAMD ~995 Mhz
    BIOS Version Version 1.00
    Total Physical Memory 523,760 KB

I play at 1024x768 with full graphics turned on.  I have no problems playing anywhere in game except in stormwind, where it's unplayable.  I do experience (as do most others, from comments) random lag spikes throughout game play.  Some of these spikes are severe enough to disconnect me. (I'm thinking spike is the wrong discriptive, should be something like drop...).

My dog barks some. Mentally you picture my dog, but I have not told you the type of dog which I have. Perhaps you even picture Toto, from "The Wizard of Oz." But I warn you, my dog is always with me.

You're very off on this.  1.5ghz was first released by Intel in late November of 2000 and was readily available to the public by early January of 2001.

Eh? Maybe I am wrong. The one I have had since 98 does have 1.0GHz and the one I am on now has 1.5GHz. I am pretty sure I got the one from 98 upgraded so that might be why I am a little mixed up. Anyway, it is 800MHz for Windows OS. But for Mac, it is 1GHz.

Yeah. Blizzard is trying their best to decrease the system requirements without taking anything away from the game. I think Mac users will be happy because it caters to them as well as Windows. Something that a lot of games fail to do.

I am eager to see some decreases on the system requirements just because I barely meet them in some cases, and I don't want it to be a coin toss to depend wether or not I can play this game.

do people still have modems? i mean many of us got DSL+ nowadays.... anyways when they say those low spec's its probably barely playable on those but to get all the good stuff you need a monster 'puter... ::::40::

I still use a 56k modem.  My house is too far out of range for DSL and cable.  We have to use sattelite for TV.

I guess I can kinda see where you're coming from... not wanting to spend money, but I honestly hope they DON'T decrease the specs, and if anything, increase them a little. Honestly, I'd really enjoy a slightly higher polycount for some of the character models, but those still have more work to be done on them apparently.

Just go out and buy a new vid card... You could probably get a GeForce 4 MX for under $50 right now. I got my TI 4800 for about 80, and that was a year ago.

Parts are getting cheaper, as long as the newer parts keep coming out. Honestly, all this competition between two different companies is really helping the consumer, such as AMD & Intel and ATI and nVidia.

Heck, if you've got enough, just go out and build yourself a new tower. Cost me about $400 in january of this year to get a slightly-higher than middle tower.

I concur. The specs shouldnt get lower, they should get higher.

The specs are pretty good as they are now, but i suppose they good do with a few more polys. But Maybe it's just me, but WC3 ran like trash on my IMac, but can't really blame WC3 for that, IMacs just suck, biggest ripoff of the century, and i can't get it through my mother's head that it sucks and she needs an actual comp, i'd rather have a 98 windows laptop, but who wouldn't?

Where you get that number 50%.  That seems highly unlikely.  We are over 3.5+ Ghz.  Someone with less than a 1 Ghz system is more the exception rather than the rule.

Hell you rarely can even find someone selling less than a 1 ghz now.  Especially since you can buy a 1.5+ system w/ monitor for 300-400 dollars.

If you have a comp with less then 1.5 ghz cpu you should shoot yourself seriously.... computers are cheap now you can get a nice one for 600-700 bucks. If your comp is 5+ years old its time to upgrade my friend =P. Youll be glad you did image
