Im an Avid mmorpg player i have played basically every mmorpg made lol and i recently downloaded the DDO Trial (http://trial.ddo.com/). Im obviously not going to comment on the later content as i have no experience with it yet but this is what i found so far now that my trial has ended.

I will keep things pretty simple and to the point.

First Impressions.

Well from the start, being an mmorpg obviously you create your character. The models look very nice the faces in perticular look very good. The customisation for your character (you can select various passive or  useable abilities to start off with) is excellent and theres a decent ammount of classes (you can actually split your class with another class and be say a fighter/sorcerer for example), there is tonnnnns of choice and your character has racial traits aswell which is nice.  Everyone is different.

Graphics.

The graphics are very nice and the animations are done very well, very smooth feeling which goes great with the combat. Beware of falling in love with the hot female elves.

Combat.

Right well here is one of the great things about the game. You actually swing your weapon by clicking the mouse button, can activaly block with the touch of a button, dodge enemies by running away and strafing etc and roll around or jump backwards to evade which makes the combat fun and very interactive. You actually feel as if you are fighting the enemy rather than sitting back and just basically autoattacking.

The Quests and Dungeons!

Well there are alot of dungeons in the game hence there name "Dungeons and Dragons" and yes i hear theres dragons later on in the game. You start off in a HUGE city with tones of quests and lots of instanced dungeons, some leading to other dungeons, there are traps (plenty of them and rogues are handy for disarming these, they can really make you jump somtimes, secret doors, plenty of little things which makes the dungeon crawling a fun experience and a challenge aswell ). There are also numerous outdoor areas which have been added in since release. There is also raiding later on in the game. You can change difficulties for the dungeons and some really are a challenge which is very good, some of these are not a walk in the park and you really benefit from having a decent leader and working as a group just as DnD should be.

Solo, group, raids.

You can solo but the game meant to be a grouping game and there is a grouping system inplace that basically everyone uses. Turbine say they are possibly adding some more solo content, upping the exp and loot for solo players but it will definatly be a challenge still. If you want to solo be sure to learn the weaknesses and strengths of your character, also make sure you have plenty of items such as potions etc and equip yourself well because it can be hard depending on your character. Grouping is alot more fun anyway especially if you have a good guild and a good leader. There is also built in voice chat which most people use which is cool.

Short Summary

The combat is great, lots of customisation, there seems to be a nice community with still a decent ammount of players playing, there is also pvp now aswell, raids, good challenging content and quite good in relation to the DnD pnp rulesets they did it quite well. So i recommend getting the trial and giving it a go.

All in all i think this is a very fun game and that what its meant to be..... FUN

I bought the game so maybe i will see some of you in game soon!

What server do you play on?

Yes DDO is by far my favorite MMO I've played.. I have been playing since three weeks after launch and loved every bit of it.

Another thing to do in DDO is Permadeath.. If you have played real DnD PnP PD (abbreviations ftw) you will love it in DDO. My friends and I still get together every other weekend for a good ol' PnP adventure or two.

I'm on Sarlona, main is Lucienz, although I'm not in game a lot lately (became a sudden surrogate parent, long story LOL).  Permadeath is CRAZY fun.  I'd recommend anyone who buys the game and plays hardcore definitely have at least one permadeath character.  You will never see STK or Waterworks the same again LOL!

I was on Thelanis on the trial but im not sure if im sticking to it, im not too bothered aslong as theres a decent pop.

HAHA Permadeath that would be well funny. I used to play Hardcore mode on Diablo 2 that was a laugh but annoying when i accidently went into a lightning enchanted guy in nightmare on my level 45 sorc...... lol oh well

Is there actually a PD option or do you just delete your char if you die.

Well, you would most likely join a guild.. here is mine: www.mortalvoyage.com  you basically just run on an honor system and delete if you die. you cannot group with anyone outside of the guild and must join at level 1. It really adds a whole new aspect to the game. As hardcore mode did with Diablo like you said before.

It's a guild thing, you can find perma death guilds on all the servers.  The requirements are usually no pimping out your character with loot from alts, and yeah...if you die...you delete LOL!  You can still be raised via spells, if you make it that high of level MUWAHAHAHAHAHA

    Actually funny story...

I was with a group of guildies (PD) and we were doing The Sunken Sewer, and there was a waterfall leading downward, so a sorc goes first... All you hear is him shouting in his mic "NO NO NO NO!!!!!!" And a giant blade gliiding back and forth. And then the little *ding* the party chat makes when someone dies... Very sad. Another funny one was in The New Ringleader at the final ogre, took one swing at my bud and he died instantly.. I was laughing so hard I went down to 10% HP before I started to swing.

    Sleep time, night guys.

I still remember doing Kobold's New Ringleader the first time...

me: "Oh, there's the kobold's new ringleader, that kobold chieftan over there...let's kill him"

    chop chop...dead

me: "cool...so much for that...but why didn't the quest end???...and what's that thumping sound..."

Ogre busts down door and charges into room as the real ringleader, proceeds to crit me for like 2 times the number of hit points I have...
