I think ads are fine in a game aslong as they fit the setting. Like seeing a ad for a clothe company or something else in a fantasy game i would be against. But in a game like CoH i see no problem with it , it also adds to realism.

Erinak, I meant adverts like you see on billboards in real life. would it be acceptable to see it in game?

My perception is, it really depends on the game, Billboard in COH should be acceptable, you are going to see something on the billboard anyway. might as well see something new. Ads are not all bad i guess, without ads how do we get to know all the new products.

any other form of ads can be placing a real life product in game. for example you can buy a can of Coke from a vending machine in the game. there seems perfectly normal in a game that are based on real life. does make the game feels more real.

and meanwhile, I think the most important part. the money they get from advertisers by advertising their product. partly will be profits, but even just 10 percent of it are been invested in the game again. thats players benefit isn't it. They might do it by lowering the monthly fee. but wouldn't it better to pay the same price and play a game that is 10% better?

    Just my two cents

I agree with it. But I dont want orcs chucking Pepsi cans at me in WOW. Nor do I want to see gawdy billboards in CoH.

How in the world would they put current product placements in fantasy type games. Especially games that take place on diferent planets.

    I am Saranth.
    AKA Brokenlizard
    AKA Ikoo
    Games Played
    SWG - 10 months total
AO - 2 years off and on (2 months at a time usually)
DAoC - 1 year off and on
    AC2 - 4 months

FFXI - 2 months or less
CoH - 2 months or less
Horizons - 2 months or less
EnB - 3 months or less

Pristontale - 1 week so far
    Lineage II - 15 days
EQ - less than 1 month

God I need a new game to play that will hold my attention. Any Suggestions?

    You have been served!

No. I think CoH is getting enough money from people purchacing CoH ($50.00), plus their monthly fee ($15.00).image

Exactly!!  I voted no, but I was going to qualify my vote with the same sentiment.  If they put RL ads in the game, then that means they are getting revenue from that.  In which case, subscription prices should drop a little.

    thnx for responding everyone image

Saranth really got a point here, Initially, I also thought that product placement in fantasy or futuristic type of games should not happen. However, I think clever placement will just bring us some fun rather than getting irritated.  let me think of an example, check out Will Smith's new movie I robot, whats the car he is driving in there? image Thats a type of product placement in a sci-fi movie. if that can done smoothly in the movie, there are possibilities to get it done in game.  It is ture that it will be hard to place a Product in most of the games nowadays. but we never know, might change some day.

About how much we are paying for the game, I think its not so important. it would be good if they can reduce the price.  However, a game full of crapy adverts, even offering for free maybe not be worth playing, right? I guess paying $15 a month for you to enjoy a decent game is acceptable.  You know that yourself right? image thats why you pay for it.

Very true.  CoH is well worth the $15 per month that I'm paying.  It was more wishful thinking than anything else.

The only concern I would have with ads being placed in games like this, is if they went overboard.  I don't mind seeing some well placed ads that fit in with the theme of the game.  However, if everywhere you looked you saw fast food ads, clothing ads, etc... it would get old really fast.

So, we'd have to trust that the developer would know how much is in good taste, and how much is too much.

Yea, thats why we got good adverts and bad adverts. Advertising is like arts, the good ones, we appreciate it. Doesn't matter if its selling something through it or not, when someone produce something good, they deserve to get some benefits back from it.

And the bad ones that are pretending to be good are not gonna go very far.  Shame we got so many companies wasting millions on marketing making crap adverts. Chould have give it to charity.
