Too Many Classes?

im not sure if this is the answer you wanna hear, but let me tell you

ive been playing daoc for ages and i would still play it if it had more classes. i played every class in the game and daoc has tons of them. when you already discovered the whole world, crafted every shit and made rvr/pvp for tons of hours theres nothing left but making a new class.

another reason is the variety you have in combats, every fight is different, not like in wow where u got like 6 same classes on both realms and you already know how every fight is going to turn out.

the only disadvantage on this like many others said is the balance, but believe me, you rather have an unbalanced game where a class is overpowered for some time til it gets nerfed and after that another class gets its chance then having those boring fights and stopping with the game after a year because u already played all classes and it turns out to be a boring game because of no variety.

everyone will be happy with a lot of classes and even new classes coming with the addons

I feel the same as you actually. and I've been following this game for a long long time with high anticipation.  While there will certainly be differences a tank class is not going to feel a whole lot different from another tank class, so on and so forth.  I actually like the simplistic yet still varied classes of WAR.

I think people are just viewing this differently.  While I can see how someone would say that a Choppa and a Witch Elf are different, I can also see how someone could view them as just a melee dps class.

How different is different...the circle goes round and round.

Well since you can PVP early on you should be able to tell if you have a gimp roll without haveing to sink tons of hours into a character.

It's funny seeing people using DAoC as an idealization of class balance. I for one seriously hope they drop all their "experience" they gained in DAoC and start afresh. Seeing your class going from Op to not being able to kill a rat every few months got old very fast. While it's important to balance the classes around RvR, it's not a good idea either to totally ignore small scale skirmishes.

Engineer, Squig Herder, Rune Priest unique to specific races).  It will be interesting to see a 24 completely different classes with different skills, strengths, weaknesses, good match-ups, bad match-ups, etc.  I think it will add a lot of pvp challenges and interesting matchups.
On the flipside, do you think it will create exponentially more problems for the developers as they try to maintain balance, evolve the game over time, etc.?  Will the developers be able to devote enough effort on each class to keep each one viable and interesting, and free of any major headaches?  Anyone have any ideas about this?  Has this concern been mentioned before?  Do you think that a lot of the seemingly different classes of the same type (support, ranged/melee dps, tank) will be more similar to each other than we expect, in the interest of some uniformity, ease of administration for the developers, etc.?

Nah I don't think balance will be an issue. It's actually a lot less classes than you think, since many of the classes are being made similar to others.

For example I think the Disciple of Khaine and the Empire's Warrior Priest are just about the same thing, just different factions. I could be wrong though...good possibility there.

I love the large number of classes, and the fact that they are based so strongly on the lore that's been in place in Warhammer for so long.  But yeah, I am worried about balance, and the inevitable fotw's that will pop up.  I don't want to be rolling along on my Black Guard, join up for some RVR, and have it be me and 39 Choppas lined up against 40 Swordmasters all with the same build.  I think the variety of classes, while they all may have a similar base, will at least make sure that every fight is not exactly the same.  No game is balanced, and it's gonna take a while for WAR to get anywhere near balanced, but at least the large variety in race/class choices should make it entertaining enough to stick with until some semblance of equilibrium can occur.

LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL Too many classes!!!!!!!!!!??????????

You can never have enough classes!

How many ppl gripe and complain because there isnt enough classes or variety!!!!??? Lots!

Look .......all will be squared away over time if there are balance issues withnin the classes! Have faith that Mythic will take care of the issues. i believe its a great idea to have lots of different classes as you play longer and see which ones are good for you! Not only is it good for the consumer / gamer but good for Mythic to keep you playing the game! ;-)

I welcome a game with 24 distinct classes and variety and with the great PVP to boot. War will be a winner in the long Run!

I play EQ2 and theres many classes in it just about over 20 and they are different enough to give a taint of a new gameplay style. So no I don't think 24 are too many at all

If there is a company that can pull off as many classes and paths as WAR will have , its Mythic. There will always be a perception of imbalance every time someone dies in PvP. But thankfully Mythic has been weathered through this before. They are able to keep their eyes on the road and not distracted by the MMORPGH back seat drivers.
