This was posted by a moderator (tbaldree) on the Mythos forums in November, in a thread discussion regarding PvP suggestions for the game. Its an interesting concept for optional PvP in Mythos and I like it. Any thoughts?

“Tossing something new in here. I had this thought while IM'ing with Max today.
What if we had portals in specific locations throughout the world that let you step into the 'shadow world'? The shadow world is a mirror of the normal world ( maybe a little different environmental effects to help distinguish it - a slightly different color cast, or some effect on the monsters, I dunno ). In the shadow world, PVP is on. All the time. Everywhere. No exceptions.
ALL dungeons are shared. If you walk out on the road, there will likely be other people there ( up to a maximum number of course ). Ideally it would try to throw you in an instance with players of similar level.
Monsters would respawn, relatively swiftly. ( So you won't go into zones that have been cleared out by the guys ahead of you )
The only individuals you would NOT automatically aggress against would be party members and guildmates. And that's it.
If you died, one random piece of your equipped loot would drop, for anybody to grab. ( Including you, if you're lucky enough to get back to it first )
Some sort of light alignment/ranking system would be nice, if for nothing but bragging rights.
There are a few technical issues that would have to be addressed - quest-specific boss spawns? They'd have to respawn too. Operateable objects? ( The detonation points in the mines for instance ). Not sure the best way to handle those just yet.
The game would be ENTIRELY PLAYABLE in the shadow world. But you could go back any time to the normal plane if you so desired.
Towns would also be PVP zones. Guilds could conceivably 'control' towns by posting guards and defending merchants.
Pretty much the wild west.
But maybe fun!”

Best ideai hear of in ages!! hardcore pkers can go there, and people who don't like pvp can stay in the upper world!
And perhaps you can exp in both world!
It's like having a server pvp and pve All-in-one, i really like the idea, hope it will be implemented
That alone would give the game fantastic replay value. It sounds too good to actually happen but I'm keeping my hopes up.
Reminds me of UO's parallel world system.. Was just a waste IMHO as the "dark" side was almost a ghost town.
There needs to be incentive to do this. Such as special gear/items that can only be found in this realm etc.
This sort of PvP system failed with UO...the only reason to even go to Felucia was a few dungeons and thats if you could come out of the portal alive since people camped the portals.
Please Refer to Doom Cat with all conspiracies & evil corporation complaints. He'll give you the simple explination of..WE"RE ALL DOOMED!
With the karma system and the possibility to drop items from people, i think it will have a fair success. you can even aquire real money items by killing a guy!
That is a really good idea! The best part of it is that these places are optional, unlike other games where the towns are PvP, without options of fighting or not. This is great news for PvP lovers like myself
This looks pretty nice, Mythos seems like a nice fun game... I played it for maybe 30 minutes or so, me likes...
Played almost everything...
Currently playing nothing...
Waiting for: Darkfall, WAR, Guild Wars 2.
Curse.com have got a new interview with the devs, concerning zone 3,pvp etc.
The shadow world idea went in anyway

PVP looting with a karma rating for those who kill much lower levels. Griefers will basically put themselves on farm mode for the rest of us
I guess crafting is going to have to be effective because of how the stats work in the game, dropping 1 piece of gear may unequip another. So perhaps the crafting skill trees will allow you to pick and choose what stats/resistances and procs you have on them.
Theres also proper duelling coming up for the non pvp world, and a competitive pvp capture the flag game.
My god that is amazing. Queinai, did you suggest anything to the developers, because their description of the pvp world is exactly the same as yours. That's pretty sick.
Edit:
There is no cow level

I never said that what you stated was plagiarism. I was saying that since the article and your description of pvp were so similar, I asked if you suggest the idea of the shadow world to the developers. That is all I said, and by me saying "That's pretty sick." I was trying to give you a complement if what you said was a prediction of what they should put into the game. I admit that I didn't notice you giving credit, because I'm dead tired, but in no way did I accuse you of plagiarism.
I apologize if you took my comment the wrong way.

Thank you for taking the time to clarify an obvious misunderstand on my part, I appreciate it and please accept my apologies. As a peace offering if I get a Beta invite I'll send it your way.
Thank you very much Queinai
