Very well done piece on the pros and cons of the new Character Creation graphics.

Completely agree with that site. Here they have one of the most advanced 3d engines in any mmorpg and they don't even provide long hair options and the models look like Neanderthals with stooped shoulders, fatty bodies and heads, and basic body proportions out of wack.
At least the creatures and landscape graphics are looking good. Hopefully they will revamp the character models a great deal more before release.
That guy hit the nail on the head. All the things that bother me about the player models that I couldn't put my finger on. Here's hoping they listen.
Ok, most of that stuff is silly, he compares to DaOc, except their model is armored, she ahs shoulderpads on which I dont know, but might change her shoulders.. The lineage 2 stuff is right, but hey, seen lineage characters run? hahaha
I dont see his beef with face sliders.. I always wanted to be able to make ugly faces :O
This seems to be written by a guy who wants to jack off to a video game, if he wants to get pleasure for 12-15 bucks why not just pay for a porn site..
Also, they are revamping models.. so more then likely once they finish all of them, think they have done 3.. the problems will be fixed.. Body sliders are ok, but they make almsot 0 difference in most games.. in ryzom you can change everything... but you dont even notice it.. infact msot sliders do SOOO little people think they do nothing.. Dont need everyone to run around with giant boobs, thats what barbarians are for.

Actually, reading more detail about it, its written by a FEMALE graphic artist who does this sort of thing for a living. (rendering humans I mean)
The CC program currently out atm is purely a preview edition of what is to come, does that meen this CC version is the finished version? Guess not...
I hope its not done. It would be foolish to get this far and just call it good. They haven't done that yet, lets hope they dont start with the graphics.

The comparisons to L2 were right on. They arent talking about how much customization is available in L2 or how good or bad of a game it is, they are talking about how the body styles and stances are far superior. Also your numbers are off a bit. I am not going to count them all but there are over 30 classes in L2, and at least for females there are 4 hair styles.
I dont like the limited selection in L2 either but at least the ones they provide are good and each of the 4 hair styles actually looks substantialy different from the others. Many people think the character creation disk does not allow near the customization or quality the SWG already provides and that it is difficult to really make your character look unique at all so those claims by SOE are in question.
If you want to get a better idea of what she is saying and how most of the EQ2 community is responding (by far the vast majority seem to agree with her) you should peek at the thread.

This is a good critique with many good points, the only problem I have with it is that many people will want to play "Uglies".
Many times hanging around the crafting stations in various cities in SWG i would find myself apporached by an oily balding little fat man tring to sell something, whilst it isnt my bag and certaintly not attractive it was not to the detriment of immersiveness, it added to the realness and diversity.
Anyhow, I have faith that the models will be improved and we will have a range of beautiful and ugly people taking the world by storm.
This place is full of tree-huggers and tofu fartn' faeries...
Looking at screenshots, however, the characters look less...odd. They do seem to blend in with the world well, at least, so it they aren't distracting problems, just problems.
Okay, is it just me or does that dark elf male kinda look like Willem Dafoe? I dunno, but I really don't see why we can't have ugly people too. There are ugly people in the real world, so why not in a game? Heck, the majority of the people I see every single day aren't exactly beautiful.
I do agree that hey need to decrease the maximum sliders for some of the things because you can make some things that just shouldn't be possible, but other than that, I see nothing wrong with people wanting to be dumb and making ugly characters, adds to variety if you ask me. I for one would never make an unattractive character just because I have to look at that character for the rest of the time I play him, I don't wanna look like a freak. But that's just me ^_^
But yeah... Willem Dafoe... I dunno, but that dark elf male looks okay to me, just kinda creepy haha.
