Hello fellow gamers,
I was wondering why some big developer doesn't come up with space combat MMO of epic proportions. It would be something like EVE online but more like simulator from the cockpit (Wing Commander style). Personally I would like to see the original WC1 style ships and design in today's graphic where thousands of players would go on missions from dosens of space carriers (like Tiger's Claw), and maybe even play both sides - human and Killrathi
P.S. Same thing with X-wing vs Tie fighter setting would be very nice too...

Jumpgate or SWG Space portion.
Otherwise I can't think of any other space simulation games in development.
And you are right, EVE, which a fun game, is not a space simulation game but rather an empire building or single item MMORTS game.
I loved the Wing Commander games. I wish they'd come out with something like that. Or even just a new game with some good multiplayer. Of course, alot of us would have to go out and by joysticks. Or they could package one in.
Remember Privateer which was part of the Wing commander series? I thought that would make a good MMO.
""But Coyote, you could learn! You only prefer keyboard and mouse because that's all you've ever known!" You might say right before you hug a rainforest and walk in sandals to your drum circle where you're trying to raise group consciousness of ladybugs or whatever it is you dirty goddamn hippies do when you're not busy smoking pot and smelling bad."

Jumpgate Evolution looks good. http://www.jumpgateevolution.com/index.php
A space sim MMO using all of the Wing Commander proper would be very cool, but I'm sure someone is sitting on that IP.
That would already exist in the space portion of SWG.
Probable for the same reason that FPS games are limited to like 16 players. With a proper joystick based game with space ships and stuff like that in a flight Sim-like backdrop like in Wing Commander the lag would probably be pretty high.
Another great example of Moore's Law. Give people access to that much space (developers and users alike) and they'll find uses for it that you can never imagine. "640K ought to be enough for anybody" - Bill Gates 1981
The Wing Commander series of games was produced by Origin Systems which got bought out by EA so I would assume that EA still owns the rights to the WC IP.
I too would love a Wing Commander MMO with both sides playable. I think it should incorporate all of the series as then you would have military professions(WC1-4) and civilian professions(Privateer) as well. It would be sweet but with EA holding the IP I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for it.

Dude, have you ever played the X games (X-BTF; X2-The Threat; X3-Reunion)? X is a space simulator. There is an economic micromanagment and you can command a fleet (fighters, support, capital ships). The game development company Egosoft is too small to handle an online project, but this is a game with expanding universe and pretty user-friendly gameplay. If someday the guys from Egosoft find a sponsor about an online game of their setting I think it will be something what all space simulators fens waits for -> a breathing universe, adaptive economy, variety of races and ships ... and finally, this would be the end of this funny space action EVE!
BTW, Freespace 2 is pretty good for a dog fight ... but for an online game not.
The technology of Tau makes us strong!
F22 Air Dominance Fighter MMO please. Greatest flight sim ever made in my opinion.
Where are all the modern fighter sims, sick of WW2 stuff
EVE + Wing Commander = the perfect MMORPG for me(in every aspect so they better dont do anything like that or Im gonna have to drop my job and play it for 60 hours a week)
Not gonna hold my breath but the new mmo from Blizzard(uppsss...i said the forbidden word) could be Starcraft and theres an .00000001 % some kind of ship simulation could be there.
Jumpage Evolution looks real good but thats what markeking is for: every non-released mmorpg looks good XD
