Perhaps it will help if you will explain what a RIFTS P&P is?

I would soooooo love to be involved with a RIFTS MMO. After releasing the game, you wait until you get the people hooked. Six months later you release an expansion that the players HAVE to buy because it will make everything before it worthless. Then, release another expansion every three months.
Cash freakin' cow!

RIFTS was a pen and paper game like d&d was originally. made by palladium games or somthing like that.
i havent seen the game for about 15 years so if im getting this all wrong correct me.
set in the future kinda a judge dread world setting. but there is a government that is extremely corrupt.
i mean judge dread world as in there is still city but mostly wasteland. there were classes like : agent (hunts down those who oppose the govenment)
juicer : uses a special suit to inject powerfull drugs into him/herself to be faster ,stronger, ext.... (everything apears to move in slow motion to a juicer .but they die young and are usually quite insane)
anyways there is alot more to it.. many more classes but i dont rember them all.
and i agree it would make a badass mmo. as long as somone with some sence got ahold of the rights.

Hmm sounds a bit like neocron, Nether less more games like that would make a nice change from the standard fantasy type.

I, for one, would rather be kicked in the balls then be inflicted by a Rifts MMO.
The whole idea behind rifts is to spread the rules and system so thin to try to appeal to all PnP RPGers that it reaches a point of infinite mass and collapse.

I'm a huge fan of RIFTS and I'll say it doesn't need the MMO treatment; a decent single player would be better than watering down such a rich setting and streamlining the rules into what would essentially be Coalition players stomping everyone else.
And your above comment cracks me up; all the guys I knew who were hardcore RIFTS players were also hardcore WoW junkies and very defensive of both. Have fun
I have to agree with Rev_lazaro ... RIFTS was an amazing PnP game, as i played it for years but i really dont think you could balance this game at all with all the different concepts it had (ie mega damage vs normal damage) ... i also think any attempt to make this game really would just water it down. I mean please don't get me wrong. a RIFTS mmo would be a cool idea ... just not feasible ... but hey ... im not a dev or a game programmer so what do i know ... if i was ... i'd make a forgotten realms or darksun mmo
I gotta agree with the "no it wouldn't work out" camp. The scope of the "Rifts Universe" is just to darn big. It has everything from magic to Psionics from Cyborgs to starships....the amount of classes and races, locations, and everything else that makes "Rifts" ..well Rifts, just couldn't be captured by todays devs. They would see "levels" in the rulebooks and would be like "cool, we can start them off killing 10 rats and endgame it with raids".
It would be something else if they could pull it off.........
Fallen Earth looks like a decent alternitive however. You remember that one, right OP?

No, it didn't.
Is it meant for obnoxious morons ?

I would love to see a Rifts MMO as long as they ignored all the crazy world book concepts and remade those areas something less theme parked.
It would make a great setting for an MMO though. The pen and paper system was crippled by the mega damage system though.

Its also got everything the human imagination can think of like aliens to mythical creatures.

Who says the players could be coalition at all? The coalition would make great antagonists.
Such a great world to make though... oh the possibilities....
Rifts was probably the most lethal PnP game I've ever played. (L5R) comes close.
Sure, making new chars was always fun (Love the glitterboy...) but having to make new ones every time we played... "ruins the immersion" lol.
