Hi folks,
after no joy with a buddy key and realy wanting to try this game out i decided to just buy it and for the great price of only £9.99 from amazon.
Looking forward to making new friends and joining a guild at some point.
I have 1 quick question if anyone would care to give there recommendations. I'm planning on a wood elf ranger as my first class but was undecided wether to go Carpentry or Leather working for my crafting what do you folks suggest would benefit me the most?
Thanks in advance.

I would go leather working and pick up harvesting too, skinning and one other.
Howdy!
I'm on the Xeth server as Binuven, Erykk or Frakken.
I'm not a ranger, but from what I understand from my friends, they can make their own arrows seperate from what a carpenter can make. Leatherworking is nice as well, but the big money makers these days seem to be weaponsmith or armorsmith, though all forms of crafting are somewhat able to produce an income.
My recommendation would be to play the adventure part for a bit and make sure that you're happy with your class. By the time you know this, you should be in a fairly established guild who can help guide you better than what I can. We have some FANTASTIC crafters (and diplomats) in my guild. (Huzzah, Honorguard of Telon!)
Hope this helps and welcome back to the fold.
Thanks for the quick response guy's.
I'm still a little confused here about how many craft professions i can have? As i see it i get to choose harvesting which is in addition to the 3 main professions of Artificer, Smithing and Tailoring and these have 2 crafts each that will eventualy specialise into 1. Is this correct or have i misread my info here?
Less than 20 mins to patch now
I just ordered the game myself, will be trying it out next week i believe. From what i've read you are correct Jinz, you specialize in one crafting field beyond the 3 initial crafting professions. But, you can train two harvesting trades. Not to hijack your thread, but i wonder if anyone could answer. I'm going to do weaponsmith, so that would rely on mining only? Or does a WS also need quarrying?
Well good luck with the game!
I would definately not go with carpenter. The reason being is that the big ticket item for carpenters to make is boats. Boats right now are not really needed since they implemented rift ways (magic portals to move from one location to another). Someday they might make boats more important, but for now they are pretty much just prestige items that very wealthy people can afford.
A leather worker has a much better chance of making a profit and you can start making useful items right from the beginning. Definately pickup skinning if you go leather worker.
I'm a level 32 Armorsmith (heavy) and capped harvester (mining and quarrying). I would recommend going armorsmith on order to save yourself some platinum. Harvesting your own hides will also save you some loot in the long run as well as make you successful in earning funds to buy a good weapon at level 50 (if you don't get one from a quest).
I would say level up your adventuring skill at least 5 levels over your crafting (that way you have rest xp built up) and keep your harvesting (skinning and mining) around the same tier as your adventuring skill.
Just so you know with quarrying you can also fight elemental mobs and harvest them after you defeat them (gainin xp in adv and harvesting).
Also note that with crafting you have to go to certain levels in order to scale in xp as you level and usually not told so by a trainer (I had to figure this out on my own).
Also, look on the Vanguard crafting site to find quests that yield crafting gear and make sure you keep your gear current with your level (will make crafting a whole lot easier).
Good luck with your ventures and hope you enjoy the game as much as I did when I first started playing.
Some of the gems you use and some other crafters use you can sell those and the rare and ultra rare stone as well. Harvesting = money lol , same with weaponsmithing very easy to make gold once you get up in levels
Thats not true most people do in fact want boats , are they necessary no you can do without forsure are they handy to have , you bet. You cant go wrong no matter what crafting profession you pick in vanguard
Ranger is probably not the best class for first character But yeh you can make your own arrows if you use the forage ability as often as you can. But you will need to buy a few probably anyway.
